LOVE how Aang just beach slapped that guy hahaha

Soren Monroe

That moment when Aang realizes the “air walkers” arent air benders felt just like when Rayla realized the moon lady wasn’t a miracle healer. Both those scenes are really sad☹️

So in honor of Yue’s first appearance of the rewatch. There’s a theory that Korra is a distant relative of Yue. Cause if Yue’s father dies and doesn’t have an heir the chieftain might of gone to the next person in line for the chief. Meaning korras grandfather is related to Yue which means korra is related to Yue. What do you think?

Soren Monroe

I wonder how exactly so much of Air nomad culture and history was preserved so well for Tenzin to know as much as he did in Korra. It feels like Aang is the only one who remembers it especially seeing as the dad in episode 17 referred to the people painted on the walls as flying sky people instead of air benders. But Aang still had a lot to learn before he disappeared so I just wonder how he was able to pass down so much or where they got all this information. Was it explained in the comics?

I'm not sure I'm following, but it seems likely that they are related in some way, considering the water tribes are not THAT big and Katara's grandmother is from the Northern tribe.

I think it's implied that he brings the culture back through the Air Acolytes and through his kids. He may not have known everything there was to know, but he did live in that culture for enough time to be aware of a lot of it :)

So one of my niggles with the Northern Water Tribe is that the gender separation seems arbitrary and out of place given the nature of ATLA's universe. When you have legends like Yang Chen and Kyoshi, and bending itself being a factor that clearly doesn't depend on gender, why would there be any sort of gender based discrimination? It feels out of place and just... sort of shoehorned in so that the Gaang can have an obstacle to overcome before the invasion proper begins. Sokka's sexism at the outset makes sense by comparison because all the men left for war, with Katara being the only waterbender there. Just some food for thought.

- Idk for how long Iroh must've thought Zuko died in that blast, but man that must've been hard for him. He had to immediately regret leaving Zuko by himself. Like once again, a son he couldn't save. - It's also hard to be an independent thinker when all is one and one is all. Thoughts and values don't occur in a vacuum. Generally, we tend to value protecting ourselves and the people closest to us. - I can't even imagine being an inventor with the capacity to create something that would kill others. Speaking of, have you ever seen The Wind Rises? (Would be cool to have a Studio Ghibli reaction series, but I know editing those for movies would take forever.) - Not sure if you've answered this before, but do you have siblings? I ask because as someone with an older brother, Katara and Sokka just feel so realistic to me. All their jabs at each other. - In terms of portraying love in media, Sokka and Yue is not super convincing, but out of all the characters I think Sokka and Suki actually portray love pretty well considering the show's target audience. They make a good team. And, unpopular opinion I guess but honestly, Mai and Zuko are pretty good too. At least with them you see conflict and resolution. (Pls no one @ me in the shipping war, I've seen it all)

"So one of my niggles with the Northern Water Tribe is that the gender separation seems arbitrary and out of place given the nature of ATLA's universe" Even deeper. Aang needs to defeat Ozai to do so he must learn waterbending. Is Paku trying to say. Aang disrespecting his culture is worth him not learning from the best teacher he can?! If Aang had boobs it would mean that everyone's gotta give up. He just won't learn? Aang's the Avatar. If he thinks Katara learning could help her help him end 100 years of war... Shouldn't they kinda listen to the Avatar who's trying to them there useless asses. There the one's who've been losing the war!

Something I've always wanted to know: how the hell did the Mechanist know that Aang was exactly twelve like five seconds after meeting him?? (yeah I know it's just a writing mistake). Also, technically, Sokka is sort of a prince of the Southern Tribe, given his dad is the Chief. Though I don't think the south uses the same hereditary/dynasty type ruling as the North seems to in this show, so maybe not.

I have not seen The Wind Rises but I am always up for Ghibli. I just looked it up on imdb and noticed Hideaki Anno (writer/director of Evangelion) acts in it, which is interesting. I have a younger sister. We had a somewhat different dynamic growing up, probably because we are much farther apart in age than Sokka and Katara (7 years apart), but we definitely took a lot of jabs at each other lol. I agree that Sokka and Suki is a lot better than Sokka and Yue. And I think part of that is time and the mutual respect they develop for each other starting early on.

Damn Past Alex AND Present Alex making me rethink how attached I am to my things. Now I'll have to re-do my luggage taking things that I know I'm taking with me to the new city just because I want to bring everything with me.

Aang really had to flex on a handicapped kid like that lmao

The Northern Airtemple has faced too much abuse- desecration, bombing AND lava :(

I think you missed it, but at 12:54 you can see that the inventor is working on plans for the Drill. They set it up in season 1.
