Apologies for the weird/bad audio between 55:00 and 1:06:00

My recording device died and so I had to use the native camera audio, which is awful.

I checked the page for this literally less than a minute ago lol

I got spoiled this past week with all the FMAB videos then I realized an hour ago there wouldn’t be an upload tonight. At least I have this to coup with 😂

I always felt like Iroh lied about the Lotus tile so he could try to get Zuko to slow down for once and take a break, though it ended up not working. Also, there is a funny slight inconsistency in 'Jet' where Katara says she has never bent water that she cant see, but if you go back to the earthbender prison episode there is a shot of her bending water out of a well tap. "Unfairness in being the avatar" past Alex sounding a little like Zaheer there lol.

"The only thing missing from season one is Azula" Surprised you didn't say Toph, fake fan

Loving this rewatch series! It's really amazing to see you catch things you didn't the first time :)

Brimmy

She also bended the water out of Aang in the Kyoshi episode

When Katara says she's never bended water that she hasn't seen before, that's an outright lie, because that's exactly what she was doing in episode six (the Prison) at Haru's place, drawing water that she couldn't see from a manual water pump. Something I notice everytime I watch this episode. EDIT: It was said already, whoops. Slow on the draw this time, oh well :)

Jet is such a vital character in the show that gets so much undeserved hate. He is essential to both Aang/Katara's characters and Zuko's in developing their arcs and showing them what revenge can cause and how the cycle of war continues. All of the episodes with Jet in them from this one in S1 to the Ba Sing Se episodes in S2 is golden and are some of my favorite episodes/plot lines in the whole show.

I always find some small little things I forgot or didn't notice, even in the unholy number of times I've watched this show. First off, I never really considered that Iroh's stop in that port could be a ln actual White Lotus meetup/ contact, but that begs the question: why did he take the lotus tile with him in his sleeve? Side note, Iroh's "maybe it should be a proverb" is one of my favorite moments in the season, and I don't know why. Next, why didn't they just put their packs on Appa while going on foot instead of carrying them? Also, that old fire nation guy? They just assumed he was fire nation because he was wearing red. What if he was an earth Kingdom local wearing red to fit in with the occupiers?

Haha I may have been shaking my head for that reason without realizing it. The talks I did in the early ATLA videos were very long. I've tried to be more concise over time :D

It's interesting that he gets hate. I can understand not liking his actions, but he's such a good character! I'm glad that he continues to play a role through the series.

agoodwintv

It's Iroh so honestly it could be either :D But at the very least this is hinting at the existence of the White Lotus. Personally after watching this episode again I like to believe that it was all intentional on his part.

As someone who isn’t a Zutara shipper, but can understand why people thought it might go there, I think the Waterbending Scoll episode is the first one that could lead people to think that might be where this is headed. Enemies to lovers is a standard trope. And the tension between the two in the scene where Zuko taunts Katara with her mother’s necklace always makes me sit up and notice the possibility. And while talking about romantic angles, I am also always surprised at Aang’s lack of jealousy in the Jett episode. It feels like the only time they didn’t portray him that way when a potential rival for Katara’s affection shows up.

I’m not sure if it was mentioned in the comments of the original video, but funny mentioning Rufio with Dante Basco voicing Zuko lol

I actually forgot how much you skipped too, especially after watching you re-react to these entire episodes lol I'm very glad you decided to do this! Even though you're doing the same thing, you're very good at making the content "new". It's not boring at all because you're pretty much giving a different commentary. Also the reactions to yourself is hilarious haha

The best characters are flawed characters, I think the challenge lies in how you frame them, as you said, she's a good kid and it's a relatable struggle, so nobody is going to fault her for making a mistake here or there, as long as she learns from it. And the flaws should be rooted in character, you know, the whole "too much of a good thing" sorta stuff, to resonate. I think the feeling that S1 is slow probably comes from the more episodic nature, while later seasons get more plot driven, but it makes sense to me. If you invest time in the characters now, we're gonna be attached once stuff starts getting real, and now is the time for some downtime before things get serious. Good observation about this being Katara's hero's journey. Obviously, it's overall the legend of the last airbender, but to me at least, Book 1 is Katara's, Book 2 is Toph's and Book 3 is Zuko's.
