I love this show. It has To Your Eternity vibes minus the overwhelming depression,.

"Fern continues to be mommy." Alex continues being in tune with the fandom.

Well it didn’t take all of season 1 but we have finished the prologue.

It’s funny how you mentioned that the end of this episode feels like the start of the adventure. When this show first aired, they aired the first 4 episodes all at once so it’s very intentional

Rekway

This is the end of the prologue, as you mentioned the main goal starts here. The story becomes more focused on the present from here on, so that Fern doesn't die of old age by next episode

Also, I love how you pronounce Aureole. Not that it matters but I’m pretty sure it’s actually pronounced “A-ray-lay” I myself have only ever traveled for my job and that was from my recent deployment. Unfortunately I don’t have the luxury to just up and travel whenever or wherever, I have to do an egregious amount of paperwork otherwise it would be a crime

This show is just so beautiful, especially the music Another reactor said that we need a classic JRPG for the Hero's Party adventures leading up to defeating the demon king and I wholeheartedly agree

I don’t know if you caught it, but there was a slide in the forest montage where Frieren was using a spell on grapes. We learned a few episodes ago that Fern and Frieren acquired a spell to make grapes sour, we also subsequently learned that Eisen loves sour grapes, the more sour the better, or so he said. Frieren learned that spell for Eisen; even though she’s consistently claimed that she didn’t know anything about her party after travelling with them for a mere 10 years, she did in fact learn and internalize quite a bit about her friends.

I love all the little side quests they complete in this series. So immersive and relaxing.

I've noticed that a majority of viewers for this show are so conditioned by modern anime, to always expect the darkest possibility. So many dark twists that are not really good story telling. This show is very good at just being, instead of attempting to trick us into false senses of security.

So my afterlife thoughts. In mathmatics there is a concept of imaginary numbers. Copying a quick definition. "Imaginary numbers are used to find solutions to equations that don't have real number solutions." That is kind of how I see an after life and theories for it. It's imaginary but a useful tool for us emotionally.

A few translations today: First, as mentioned by someone in an episode prior, Eisen means 'iron', fitting for a warrior. The next two are a little obvious, but Ende means 'end' and Flamme means 'flame', both describing more superficial aspects, being the location at the end of the earth and the legendary mage's hair respectively.

Also, I always found it funny, the idea of them travelling to Aureole, essentially heaven, to speak with the soul of heaven (Himmel)

BirthdayParty

It's fun to pay attention to the length of the timeskips, because they're also indicative of Frieren's development.

You mentioning your sleep schedule issues is something I really relate to lol. Recently I've been experimenting with some alternative sleep schedules like biphasic sleeping (two 3 or 4-hour sleeps broken up by a few hours wakefulness). Been pretty interesting, and the extra 3 hours or so in the middle allow me to be pretty productive on personal projects and whatnot.

Sleep continues to be confusing to me. I can sleep 9 to 10 hours at home at night and wake up (barely) feeling awful, yet I can nap for an hour on the bus and feel unbelievably energized

Aidan Pullen

That's 100% my experience. I wish I had easy access to someone who studies sleep and could tell me what the optimal sleep pattern is for me.

"Heiter clicked his tongue at me some times" Judging by the fact she remembers and how the rest of the group reacted (obviously it's played for comedic effect, but still), I guess the point is either "these were different times", hence it was an actual admonition or the action was extremely against Heiter's character. It's funny how the Japanese differentiate the classes "Warrior" and "Hero" in anime and manga, when Hero works mechanically the same as a warrior in combat. I think we see why they do that in this show: Himmel obviously has physical prowess, as a sword wielding class that doesn't use a shield. but is also charismatic and, more importantly, wise, with how he figured out all of his companions and how he talks. ENTER FLAMME. By the way "legendary" is not a 100% proper translation. No one would seriously call themselves "legendary" while they're still alive, ESPECIALLY if they're actually good at what they do. As per the wiki, it's actually "Great Mage". In my opinion it's not just an adjective, but closer to how a "High Wizard" is almost a different class than just "high level wizard". And another character with significantly high Wisdom, it seems. She had read Frieren like an open book 1,000 years ago despite her (Flamme) being a human and limited by her lifespan. Flashback_Frieren isn't wearing the ruby-like earrings. Flamme is, though. They look very slightly different. I wonder if the author has something planned for that reveal (?) HEEEEEEY~ is that a Himmel statue in the "too handsome" pose from ep.2? Nice.

When are you reacting to Invincible? The second half of season 2 started a few days ago

Seth

No it didn’t? There’s a huge amount of hype for it everyone else reacted to it
