For those not in the know, I'm currently rendering out a very long animation, which means it's taking a very long time. In the meantime I can't do much of note on my main computer 'cause it's busy rendering, but I've got a windows tablet that I recently discovered can do most of the job of building a model pretty effectively so I started picking away at that for something to do while I wait. Well, the animation is taking long enough that it's still going to be chugging away for a while and yet she's more or less finished, except for the fur and some touch-up and details. (The deformation in the elbow area needs a going-over, things like skin and nails need texture/shine, etc. The thick neck is to support a bunch of fluff later on down the road, not a mistake).

This was inspired by a few things... I had already been kind of resisting the urge to make a wolf girl model (she's a maned wolf by the way) as a few people will be able to attest to, because I really don't need anymore female canine characters, but man... wolf girls. D:

Then I noticed the fandom seems to be taking an interest in long, leggy characters lately; or at least, a few movies have come out with characters in such a style and the fandom just makes filth outta everything, but still. That got me thinking about messing around with it myself, and how a maned wolf would be a good fit in this style with their absurdly long limbs, and as you may know I already quite liked maned wolves, in fact Ru was one for a while... the confluence of all these thoughts was a bit too much to resist, so this happened.

I have a bit of an issue with making female models where anything outside of my usual anatomical style feels like a mistake, like I've modeled something wrong, and even when I try to do something outside the norm I can find myself making small adjustments here and there over the course of the process to "improve" it until at the end without even noticing I've made them basically the same shape as all my other girls, heh. While this model isn't a huge departure for me, it's still an attempt to push that boundary a little bit. As I was designing her I made her leggy to the point of starting to get just a little uncomfortable with it, and then left it there despite my brain screaming at me the whole time to make her shorter, make her look more like my normal characters. By the time I got to the point you see in the picture, that screaming has mostly been silenced, though I can't tell if that's because she actually looks mostly alright or if I just got used to the absurdity. x3

Then I pushed it even -harder- just for the fun of it, using things like the huge ears to make her even taller, and the tiny tail to emphasize her long legs even harder. Fuck it, if we're going in we might as well go all in right?

Anyway, so that's how this mess happened. Won't know how it really looks until we get fur on her, and I'm not yet sure if my little tablet will be able to handle that, fur kinda brings even my big beefy main PC to it's knees, but I'll give it a shot. You'll find out in a few days if it can. :P

In the meantime, what do y'all think of the absurdly leggy lady? I don't expect it to be to everyone's tastes, but I'm curious to know what you think!

Mmmm. Leg.

I almost feel like the forearm is too long, but hey! It's you're art and you've yet to disappoint. Overall I quite like it. Nice!

ruaidri

Yeah, the arms need... something done. She's supposed to have pretty long-feeling limbs, but the arms might be a touch too thin for their length, or maybe they are just a bit too long. That's an area I intend to fiddle with a bit going forward!

Knotty Sergal

110% completely approve of her in so many ways. There are NO cute Maned Wolf girls in the animation world.

ruaidri

Oh nice, thanks! Hopefully there'll be one in the next few days! :D

SneakyLupine

im 5'6 so i like tall...looking forward to her and you can never have too many wolves XD

ruaidri

She'll definitely suit your tastes then, hah. She's -very- tall. If you count the ears she might be taller even than most of the big beefy males I've made. I'll have to get her together with the other characters before I really get an exact sense of where she fits in, but either way, she's definitely a big'n. :P

Hah I love the idea, and I think you've done a good job of capturing the 'leggyness' without it going tooooo far off the rails... Just the right amount of crazy, ha! I think she'll be a great addition to the lineup, very different!

Eddie SanHusky

Leggy and slender is my favorite aesthetic XD

Pojodan

Hopefully both will end up on Cheetah shoulders someday :9

SneakyLupine

Im curious would it be cool if I picked your brain for some of your blender knowledge every now and then?

Cant say much about it bc im unsure so far i especially like the long legs and the long ears its definitelly a model to play around with!!!

Steve

Love it. One question, why does the black leg fur not extend all the way to her toes? I always loved the look of something like black knee socks as natural fur patterns. I know you still need to properly fur her, but that neck does look off. Will wait for the finished model.

Ferric

Tall girls FTW!

ruaidri

Her legs are just so silly long that I felt visually they needed something to break up the colour a little bit. This seemed like a good way to do it!

Steve

Well I like the fact that while many artists seem to be going off the deep end of thicc, you instead created an extra slender and modestly endowed character. I am excited for the final model.

draegwolf

love maned wolves

DSG

I don't think she's too leggy. I mean maned wolves really do look like someone got a little excited in Spore and attached stilt legs to a normal canine.

Fal Chavamee

I think she looks damn good! And a little unique for you!
