Here's a WIP of a model I'm making for someone as a commission. He's in the mid stages right now, so he's missing some bits (like the hair and tail, and obviously fur in general), he can move around but all the joints need their corrective shape keys and he can't do facial expressions much yet, and I haven't worked in physics yet so his balls are sticking out at a weird angle instead of hanging down, but I just got the A-OK on his appearance and I think he's coming along well, so I thought I'd share what I've got so far!

Are you going to use him for some of your own animations? Maybe some deepthroat action or balls deep penetration?

Maybe not this exact model, it's someone else's character and I probably shouldn't use it willy nilly, but I might whip up my own horse model based on this mesh, and I'm pretty pleased with how it's turning out thus far. Would be fun to have a horse model on hand!

So obviously before I start this comment, I realize that this is a commission and that our opinions should mean nothing next to the desires and wishes of the commissioner. So, everything contained beyond is simply my opinion! Horses are a big love of mine, so I'm resisting the urge to simply gush into this comment and take way too much time, ha. Biggest pro so far--the legs looks fantastic. Spot on anatomy there, they look natural. Torso and arms are pretty standard humanoid arms, not much new to say there! The ears look quite tall for a horse, and definitely radiate a donkey feeling, especially when combined with the color palette. In my mind horse != donkey, though that distinction could be irrelevant for someone else, so I'm not sure! His head looks quite interesting. A bit more toony than I've seen from you before, to the point where I can just imagine in my mind his lips and mouth being rigged up to speak without a problem. I definitely don't think it's a negative, just not quite sure how I feel about it yet! Balls notwithstanding, I think you did a great job on the rest of his bits. The tip feels only slightly off to me, as it's more of a 'lip' than an 'edge' (I'm having trouble finding the words to describe it differently) and somewhat slightly begins to give off the feeling of "thick cylinder with a cap on it" which is a pitfall for many people when rendering stallion anatomy. But also, WIP! And an untextured model. Things always look a bit wonky, and that's all I'm really nitpicking here. Overall an amazing job for your first equine 3D model, absolutely that's for sure! And it sounds like the commissioner is happy, which at the end of the day is the most important thing! I'm all for the idea of you whipping up your own stallion/mare in the future to use in your animations, I think he/she would be a wonderfully welcomed character. Great work, proud of you!

Thaaanks. :D My horses always come out looking a bit donkey-ish... I think I just have a thing for long ears? This is even after they were shortened once or twice, hah. I guess I just can't help myself! The head took me a lot of messing around to get somewhere that I liked. To me, realistic horses look goofy as hell from most angles, and it was tough to come up with a shape that looked decent all the way around. There's definitely some heavy stylizing going on here. Spent some time looking at disney and pixar horses to get a feel for it- which is probably why it kind of looks like he could be made to talk I'd guess, he's based off models that often do, hah. I'll be honest, I have no particular desire to look up realistic animal bits, so I just make a best guess based on what I've seen other people draw. If a mistake with animal anatomy is very common odds are I'll make it too because I usually learn these things from other people. :P The commissioner seemed good with it for now, but if I find myself making another stallion model at some point down the road maybe I'll swing by your direction for tips. You seem to know what they should look like! Glad you're liking him so far though, let's hope he looks good with all his fur and hair on too!
