Street Fighter 6 is one of the most important fighting games ever. Its approach to accessibility is remarkable to the point where someone whose memory disorder locked them out of an entire genre has become an obsessive player. It's that significant.

Also it's making elitist gatekeepers cry, and it features Best Gladiator Girl Marisa. I love it!

This was such a great breakdown of what accessibility actually is and why it's important, but I'm a little saddened by the thought that a lot of the people who need to be shown this will just discount it outright :(

I'm sure Laura loved the offscript parts just as much as we did. <3

Great video. Can't believe you did delicious strawberries dirty like that though. They don't deserve to be compared to the whiny cry babies!

Between this vid and podquisition chatter about SF6's easier-to-use mode, I was reminded of an early version that Capcom did about 15yrs ago. With Capcom vs. SNK 2's Game Cube version, they put out a "EO" version (where EO stands for Easy Operation). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capcom_vs._SNK_2#Capcom_vs._SNK_2_EO I remember at the time thinking similarly to "The Gamers™" when my non-SF playing brother could keep up with me. Now I was a kid then, so I'll forgive myself for being closed minded. However, now that ensuring accessibility is a part of my day job and I've been opened up to a whole new world of people using technology I was unaware of then, its a shame that EO mode wasn't carried forward into other Capcom (or SNK's) fighting games. I'm glad you're a part of the fighting game community now. I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have. <3 Keep up the good work.

Oh wow you're right, I had totally forgotten about this and I played the crap out of the Gamecube version of it back in the day.

This has convinced me to go buy SF6. Your enthusiasm is contagious, and as someone else who basically only plays Smash, this sounds right up my alley.

This reminds me of the first time I played Soulcaliber. I've never been one to memorize all the codes and be able to recall them when needed. But when playing Soulcaliber the first time with someone who specialized to knowing all the right codes, I could stand own a little bit. I was able to time my attacks, keep moving, and position myself. It was only enough to give him a bit of pause, but I still was able to do it. That experience always stood out to me, as a non-twitch, strategy, tactical game lover.

I want to buy SF6 now! I was already interested (big lady ❤️) but fighting games were always too intimidating for me to get into

I'm assuming this point has been raised elsewhere, but I'll put it on blast anyway. The first street fighter arcade cabinet was made in 1987; that is 36 years ago. There is a reason we do not control cars with tillers anymore, and also why virtually no one will know what a tiller is in this context. A modern overhaul of historical arcade cabinet fighting controls was long overdue. (to save a google search, the vehicle control mechanism used in Zelda: TotK machines is a good example of a tiller)

potato potato also another potato

You and Laura really have made me want to try it, I’ve always had a similar relationship with fighting games, with street fighter feeling even less approachable than most, if it wasn’t such a busy month id pick it up. Maybe I’ll grab it in the gap between ff16 and armored core 6…

I miss standing in an arcade for a few hours playing SF2 against the machine or other regulars. Not all that much but I do miss it! Blanka was my fave mainly because we both had red hair but Guile was the hardest to beat. That butterfly kick was almost unstoppable! I've moved on though and it's Age of Conan that's my fave. I hate Ten Cent so I won't pay them for anything just play for free. I'd still be playing WoW if ActiBlizz weren't such a shite company. Love your vids, Commander! The whackier, the better :D
