This update provides the cached version of my No Man's Sky review, since The Jimquisition website is currently under attack by someone or some people who got really upset that I didn't like the same corporate product they like.

Feel free to check it out there. Since I have no ads on the site, traffic literally does not matter to me. I only care that the stuff I write gets read. What an absolutely pointless tantrum of an attack.

Review is still readable and I've not been hurt by this save for the two seconds it took to notify people who aren't me so they can work on fixing the problem.

In the meantime, I'm just going to laugh my head off at the idea some people got *this* mad over saying No Man's Sky wasn't interesting.

On a personal note from me to all of you reading this who support me on Patreon here - thank you as always for your continued support. It's thanks to you that I'm pretty bulletproof when it comes to attacks like this. Taking my site down hasn't hurt me thanks to my ability to trade work for patronage directly to you.

Days like these make me more grateful than ever that I made that decision to risk independent finance via my lovely audience.

No Man's Sky Review - Falling Skies

Goodbye, Moonmen... Developer: Hello Games Publisher: Sony Format: PC, PS4 (reviewed) Released: August 9, 2016 Copy provided by publisher No Man's Sky effectively portrays the loneliness of space by providing so little for the player to do that it's tempting to flush one's self out of an airlock just to break the tedium.

Ridiculous.

Anonymous

This is ridiculous. I don't understand why there have been so many people like this lately. Between the comments on That Day We Left (thanks for disabling those, by the way; they were pissing me off), the whining on Jimquisition and Jimpression videos, and this, a lot of people really seem to be going out of their way to complain about you. And now my response to the review: it's disappointing that they did so little with this. I like the concept and think it could have been amazing, especially if they had gotten a couple of scientists brainstorming ideas. DIfferent planets could have had different gravities, different atmospheres, different suns, and they could have changed the content on each planet to reflect that. What sorts of life could evolve on a planet that's tidally locked with its sun? What about on a planet that orbits around a binary system or a red giant? What if you have to get some really important material from a planet that rains sulfuric acid, like Venus? They could have made the game universe one-tenth the size and a million times more interesting.

"Like Spore before it..." is perhaps the most damning phrase that could ever be included in a review. Ouch.

Don't ever be afraid to say what you want Jim. Not that you would, but don't let anyone censor you.

Anonymous

Cheers!

Bravo Jim, keep up the great work. While I'm still personally interested in the game, I suspected what the flaws were going to be for a long while and your review was informative on that regard. The types of people complaining about your reviews tend to be the same "ethicz in journalism" bullshitters, when they are actually silencing people. It's probably for the best that we just abandon comment sections on the internet completely, fuckers keep poisoning the well.

Anonymous

My pleasure to help fund you through Patreon. Keep it up. Never stop voicing your own opinion even if turds cant take it. Its there loss

Anonymous

Thanks for the workaround. I still I want to play it someday and will get it when its well under 30 bucks, thanks for saving me $60.

The takedown of the site is nothing compared to the takedown of logic, reason, and basic human decency that will occur once the trolls find the comments section.

I actually think you made a pretty harsh criticism, more than it needed to, but attacking your site over that? the hell... no! I don't support your opinion on the game entirely, but I'll fight for your right to express it.. I'll fight them with.... money? anyway you get the idea... hope your site is up soon and continue being yourself.

Anonymous

Thanks Jim! You rock! You cover practically all of my issues with the game quite well. I have been urging my fanatical friends to stop and not buy into the $60 price tag of this game. At the very least, wait until it is under $30 and has more content to warrant even that price tag.

Anonymous

Hahahaha this is the most pedantic shit we've seen to date (aside from the you-know-who lawsuit)

Anonymous

Also, the chached version seems to be down as well.

Anonymous

Thank God for Jim and him saving me the trouble of remembering the google syntax of caching :) Also, it would be good at least for reference to know whether this is based on the gold version or patched version of the game since those lucky enough to have all the internets get a much nicer game.

Anonymous

Thanks Jim, really appreciate it! Your review confirmed my suspicions - still getting the game mind you, because I enjoy that type of game, but it's good to know my hype radar was on the money!

SpectralTime

Don't have anything particularly insightful to say. Just wanted to express my support.

Anonymous

I'd love to say that it's unbelievable that someone would do this to you over something as dumb as them not liking your review of something, but...yeah. Sorry to hear that though, what a dumb thing for someone to do.

Anonymous

People are crazy. Keep being awesome, Jim!

Tim Albers

Beautiful Blade Runner reference at the end... love it!

Anonymous

Good review, shame about the haters. After the initial trailer (which I admit was kinda cool) I realised that the game would have so many limitations. Failed to see the hype, especially with such lack of details. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Anonymous

Thanks for giving us another way to read it, got even more curious about what you thought of it after the site went down and I agree with you; the game looks really boring. No idea why that is the cause of such an outrage.

Josiah Lambert

Really sad about the site crashers. Hang in there, Jimberly! Looking forward to the inevitable video about it. When the hype bubble bursts, look out for that collateral damage. You're doing god's work here.

Anonymous

Some people get butthurt for silly reasons. I just want to write reviews for you.

Anonymous

Remember, these are the same "fans" who issued death threats to a whole bunch of people when the game was announced as delayed. I have no idea who the fuck they are or where they came from, but they certainly are insane.

Anonymous

Thanks for the cached link. And thanks for the honest review.

Anonymous

Thank you, Jim. Hopefully, people give up the tantrum attack soon.

I can see how this game can rub people the wrong way. I, however absolutely love it. I will give some back ground though, I love resource gathering for some odd reason. In RTS's I more excited about what I am collecting than the fight itself. I get pissed if I am attacked before I have finished my duty of collecting everything I can. I guess I am weird like that.

While I don't share your sentiment about the game, I respect your opinion and definitely understand where you are coming from. I am gonna get it on PC, but I have played it a bit on PS4 and watched my partner play it a bunch. The game is very zen for me, and compared to some other games I have tried in the hopes of getting a similar 'zen' vibe out of like Starbound, Elite: Dangerous and a few others...this one nails that itch I have very well.

Anonymous

I personally don't have the money to support you financially but in return when I finish any game I'm developing you can bet I will be giving you a free copy with strings attached as a trade for all you have given me over the years of me watching your videos.

jimquisition

Can confirm it's the patched version. Sony refused to send out code until the patch was in place.

Anonymous

Thanks for the mirror Jim. Always proud to be supporting your work, whether or not I agree with your every sentiment.

Michael Cotton

Wait, so the site isn't down because of massive traffic to the review, but because people who disagree with the review are DDOSing your website? Wow, some people are pathetic. And for what? Yet another survival crafting game that doesn't live up to the hype the developers built up for it. For fuck's sake.

There's also Laura's review in the meantime:

Keep up to good work Jim and Thank God For You. ^_^

Moira Moon

Ahhh tantrums. Thank god for Jim. Love you Jimmy boy!

Corey Tindall

Continue the great work.

Are you sure this is because of the No Man's Sky review, or is it just a coincidence that they did this now? There are so many reasons that people like this pull this kind of stupid crap. I'm just wondering if we're just guessing or if someone claimed responsibility or at least communicated their reasoning/goals here. This behavior is so pointless, but I'm fascinated by these people and they way their minds work--it's just bizarre to me.

Anonymous

I'm going to increase my donation :D

Aaron

*cough* ..conspiracies...Perhaps Sony crashed the site as Jim's review is the only one up on metacritic so far due to the unorthodox day zero game reboot. A 50 metacritic is very bad for Sony and for P$4 on release day. They sure as shit manipulated public perception for Ghostbusters, and have yet to allow any PC footage of the game.

Anonymous

Really, people? It makes me kind of glad I'm in a wheelchair and don't go outside and talk to random people much. If I did, and ran into someone with a slightly different opinion on something petty and stupid it might cause m to spontaneously murder someone. At least I think that's how it must work. The Internet can only contain 100% truth, after all.

Anonymous

Yeah, PBS Idea Channel (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9iZ9UN2KcM)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9iZ9UN2KcM)</a> used this game as a macguffin last week to ponder if reality is a simulation, and what would it mean to escape it to a "no man's sky." I swear they said it wasn't "out" yet, but I guess either it was on console, or early-access, or something??? I don't see the point. I will spend time in a simulated universe as soon as it can simulate better artists than the ones we've got in this one.

Anonymous

Not $1/mo. Jim is doing alright for himself either way.

Anonymous

The concept is fundamentally flawed. Jim makes it pretty cut and dry. People think our little planet is humdrum, but it's not. It even has lifelike stories all over the place. There's little life to be found in this avenue of art design. It trades in wasting people's lives.

Eric M

Such silliness some people sink to because someone else doesn't like their favorite thing. Glad to hear it didn't cause you any headaches. :)

Mark Patten

If fanboys are salty, I am happy. Money well spent.

Mark Patten

This is the same fan-base that threatened to have a journo killed because he wrote an article about it being delayed.

The7thDraconian

Angry Fanboy used Crash Site. It's not very effective. Angry Fanboy ran away crying.

Anonymous

LOL Unbelievable. They are hand delivering you another excellent Jimquisition. Can't wait for it!

Anonymous

Keep up the good work Jim!

Anonymous

Ooooh they really showed you Jim...oh wait! No they fucking didn't!

Anonymous

I think it is more likely they are mad at you for the pogs gambling site scandal.
