Hey everyone,

I created a paperback version of eBook 2 (Reaping the whirlwind), which is now available on amazon. Sorry for the wait for this, I know a few of you have been asking for it in book form!

Here's a direct link, as I know they can be hard to find by searches sometimes:

Please let me know if you spot any glaring errors! :-)

Cheers

Thanks telfer :) can't wait for number 3 to come out

Does anyone have a direct link for the first paperback? I don't know if it's just dumb search settings on Amazon's part, but all it wants to show me is the kindle edition (usually I get a drop down to choose paperback, hardcover, special ed. etc.).

I might swap them around when I do the third ebook. The Alyssa cover is from chapter 5, so it would make sense to switch it.

Ipurchased 3 of book 1 some time ago....and now 3 of book 2. Two of the three are hermetically sealed...in the hopes that one day Tefler will sign them when he gets really famous. (I know, pipe dream on me getting them signed...not on Tefler getting famous.)

asking us to make that choice is cruel and unusual punishment.

In the latest verion you've posted there's this, Alyssa caught John’s arm and murmured, *Leave us to get everyone settled in.” She met his curious gaze with an anxious frown. *Calara needs you; she’s up on the Combat Bridge at the moment...* It was originally all telepathic speach but you edited the first part to finish as normal speach.

Great chapter!

One minor nit: you are using "shouldering" here and in multiple other chapters when you mean "slinging". Shouldering is bringing a long gun up to the shoulder in preparation for aimed fire. Slinging would be using the carry sling to carry it over a shoulder or across the back to keep your hands free. Minor, but jarring... Thanks for a truly enjoyable story!

Anonymous

I noticed that as well but didnt think much of it at the time. the thing that did go through my mind however was the thought that shouldering wouldnt be needed at all. With the huge advancements dana has made to the weapons do they even need or have traditional sights? it would seem more realistic to me to simply hip fire the guns. the targeting systems plus enhanced strength of the crew would make it just as accurate as carefully sighted shoulder fire.

Anonymous

Not that it matters, but having taught BRM (Basic Rifle Marksmanship. With the built in HUD in their helmets the bullets should hit what they're looking at. They would only need to "shoulder" the weapon or aim if they aren't using their HUD.

What I'm going to do is wait for all your books are done for Three Square Meals then buy them all and glad wrap them to preserve them.

Ahem: I have noticed that the photon lasers that were 7.5 times as powerful as a std terran beam laser are now 1.8 times more powerful. With 64 of them 7.5x1.8x64/6 gives the Invictus the beam laser firepower of 144 standard Terran Cruisers. And the point defense lasers are now as powerful as a standard Terran beam laser so add another 48 beam lasers or 8 Cruisers to those totals for an eye popping 152 Cruiser equivalent in laser power. The Gauss cannons are as powerful as a std. Terran mass driver. And with the Singularity Driver and Nova Lance, the Invictus carries as much or more firepower as a full Terran Fleet. Given the shield upgrades and the plating upgrades, the Invictus could easily stand off and take out 2 full Terran Fleets without getting close enough for them to actually engage.

DCM

I think the operative phrase here is: “Holy Crap!”

DCM

So the only problem is being overwhelmed and not able to shoot fast enough. Need a scatter gun Super Gauss Canon or a wide beam laser to clip several ships at once.

Anonymous

Shouldering still makes sense since it gives you more points of contact than hip fire. Even with the armor enhancements, I would still think that a stable shooting platform would be important

Anonymous

They need to be able to drop mines. With their maneuvering mines would be a devastating weapon in the Invictus arsenal

Anonymous

Those mines might as well be smart missiles with how good their maneuvering is because I don't see those mines missing

Ah, I love the smell of new book in the morning .... One observation now it's sitting on a shelf next to book one, the spine on each just says The John Blake Chronicles (albeit in a completely different typeface), no indication of which book in the series.

Anonymous

Now you mention it, an aft minelayer system would be very useful. There have been been a few engagements where the Invictus has mostly been keeping her distance to stay at her preferred firing range whilst enemies try to close. Adding mines plays right into that tactic. Given we're likely to be engaging more Kirrix in the future, this might well be an idea worth pursuing.

Anonymous

How about an interdiction minefield that both pulls fleet out of hyper warp and then destroys the ships.

I noticed a few comments about John and when his abilities manifested. A couple of things to remember about John, first he has a Terran mother. He is almost certainly the only Progenitor born to a Terran female unless his mother got back to her master and had another child. This may be partially why John is starting late and able to fight off P-J. Secondly and possibly more important, his father was not around when he was born. It's quite possible that his father needed to be there to trigger the 'Progenitor' nature and abilities. After all John wants to be with his children to make sure the basic Progenitor nature is not triggered. On a side note, he is going to have his hands full if he has any boys. The Maliri girls will be flocking to the boys. We could have a civil war as all the boys grow up and build their own harems and thralls.
