Hey guys!

The artist working on the Invictus commission has just finished a simple render. He'll add lots more detail once I've signed off the basic design.

It's actually pretty close to how I imagined it. (This is the initial version in Chapter 7).

What do you guys think?

Doesn't the Invictus have 6 engines now?

Anonymous

Nice, not gonna lie though for some reason it reminds me of a buttplug.

Anonymous

Very nice it kinda reminds me of some ships you see on star wars

Brent

Very nice!

Jedi Khan

It does, but the rendering above is for how the Invictus was when John bought it.

Anonymous

Looks very good. Especially as a 1st render.

Jedi Khan

Somehow it seems a bit...deep...in the bow, if you know what I mean? Might need to taper off a bit more.

ItWasn7Me

Shouldn't there be 2 raised sections running the length of the front of the ship for each barrel of the mass driver? Or do they stack in the single one?

ItWasn7Me

Correct me if I'm wrong but Tfed ships are suppose to be really blocky. I agree with you that it seems deep but that makes it less star wars like

Jedi Khan

The Invictus originally had 4 Mass Driver barrels, two on each side, one above the other. Or at least that's how I imagined it.

Anonymous

Nice. I had thought that it was more boxy since no-one first seeing it thinks of it as a particularly agile way to get around the galaxy and I view the action in the stories more in term of a cube (no, not Borg even though Invictus has assimilated a lot of technology!). The stories have a lot of up-and-down orientation to them.

I know this is a rough concept draft. But I always pictured being able to see the armoured weapon ports. Shouldn't there be more slide away panels on the top deck. Or are they seamless

Tefler

Yeah, it looks a bit like one of the republic cruisers from the Prequel Trilogy. That's actually accidental as I loathe the PT! :-)

CJ Mora

Yeah, pretty mich what I imagined. Good start!

Tefler

The panels for the weapons are visible on the hull, but this is just a first render. I've given him a plan of the weapon locations for later. For the actual picture, I think it might be cool to see the weapons deployed.

Think how long it looks noe after it was lengthened. It reminds me of a speed boat.

Evan

I like it very much. I hope you do, too. I don’t like it for month’s worth of income yet, but it’s a great start.

Muledrvr

I was going to ask if it was the stretched version, since there are two "bay doors". But then it occurred to me that one would be the hanger, and the other the cargo doors. Got it... I think lol.

Anonymous

Look like the SDF-1

Forbsey

The way the Invictus was described initially Tefler, that it was akin to a shark being an angular predator. Maybe some grooving to promote that?

Anonymous

retro thrusters needed, but other than that, "Shiny"

Anonymous

As others I agree that it's a good start. The depth of the hull though is reminiscent of a 20th century ocean bound craft. My general picture was more along the lines of a cruiser version of a Star Wars Class Star Destroyer. FWIW.

Anonymous

please get it closer to how you see it in your mind.

Tefler

I've made a few tweaks and sent them over to the artist to take a look at. Thanks for your feedback everyone, you had similar thoughts to me. :-)

Anonymous

Now I could be wrong but i don't ever remember any of the battle damage or descriptions talking about multiple engines its always been the engine took a hit and is offline not engine 1 and 2 are offline but 3 and 4 are good so we are at reduced speed until Dana can fix them.

Anonymous

I like it as a beginning, perhaps a bit wider and deeper in bow portion but since there is no scale to draw on maybe it is wider than it looks. I think it would be rounder in Bow section (i.e. Shark like) to allow weapons hard points with more space for greater cooling. Too close more heat to get rid of.

Tefler

I think I've used the phrase "four massive engines" quite a bit in the early chapters, particularly in the combat scenes. They all got replaced by Trankaran versions in chapter 53 and Dana added two more in the recent refit at Genthalas. :-)

William Wallace

I don't know It doesn't do it for me, it does not look real its more like something from a fantasy, but that is my personal opinion

Tefler

I've asked him to angle the lower portion of the bow a bit and make it flush with the topdeck as well. You'll see the changes when he's rendered it again.

Jedi Khan

Well...it is a futuristic space ship from a fictional story, so you just might be onto something there. :-p

Timtom12

I always loved the Eve Online ships and considered the Gallente Brutix and Thorax as what the ship looked like. However, I didn't pay as much attention to the exact Invictus specs and don't remember if the hull was more curved or sharp.

Anonymous

It looks like a space ship, and then with engines strapped on the back of it. I like it,

Anonymous

The cargo bay and hangar kind of look small doesn't it? (if those are what the openings in the flanks suggest they are)

Tefler

Yeah, I've asked him to make them bigger on the next iteration. The airlock was too large before too. :-)

I always pictured the Invictus as a large Dragoon without the gap in the front and with more guns. <a href="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b6/b8/60/b6b860f05f6bba2313fe3911651c1576.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b6/b8/60/b6b860f05f6bba2313fe3911651c1576.jpg</a>

Jedi Khan

I had pictured more as a large Thrasher (<a href="https://interstellarprivateer.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/official-thrasher-pic.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://interstellarprivateer.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/official-thrasher-pic.jpg</a>)

Jim lynch

Alisa said it looked like a shark so I imagined something completely different lol

Anonymous

When should we look for the next chapter?

Anonymous

Not what I was expecting at all. But it's easy to model and render straight lines and slab surfaces. 2/10 :(

Anonymous

Yes, and much easier, not to mention cheaper, to build irl using straight lines, as well. Cost savings in hull used for weapons development.
