Hey everyone, Been a while since I have made an update but I wanted to keep you guys in the loop of what's happening/has happened in the last few months. I have run into a few hurdles that I need to lay out:

  • My artist has gone MIA and hasn't responded to me for quite some time. This is unfortunate as I have already invested funds into the next lot of artwork that needed completion. I like to give the benefit of thr doubt and I hope they are doing ok and are still alive. That being said, it means I need to find a new artist that can do the same style as my previous artist's work to maintain visual consistency. This is a painful process.

  • I have been using a game engine called Tyranobuilder and after working with it for over 100 hours I have decided that it is not capable of what I need it to do of OWH without a lot of editing. For example, one limitation is when switching between images, there is a significant lag when doing so. Another limitation is when I was implementing a menu system for the shop and inventory. It was like trying to make a cat do the cha-cha, not suitable for purpose. Also, unlike other systems, I needed a complete portrait image of EACH variation a character had (instead of having a modular system) which was leading to huge image libraries and an engorged file size. So I have officially made the decision to move to the Godot Engine using the Dialogic 2 plugin. It is more robust and will actually work without me having to hack it all the time.

  • With a baby due soon I am finding myself time poor and I can only imagine what it is going to be like when the baby arrives and I am neck-deep in Huggies going on no sleep. As I said, this is a hobby project and I am only putting my spare time towards it. It is also why I don't charge monthly on Patreon and ony charge per release (which I have yet to do). If you are on Substack don't worry, any subscription you have done there will guarantee a version of OWH when it relates even if you have to cancel.

So what does this mean for OWH? Firstly, I am porting over to the Godot engine: luckily I am not starting from square one and transferring over to the new engine won't be too difficult, just time consuming. Next, I will be on the hunt for an artist, if you know one that is capable for the task please let me know asap. Lastly, updates might be a bit sparse for some time, I want to focus first on being a good dad then second on being a game designer. I hope you will stick with me through this journey but I completely understand either way.
