Before I started doing the actual strip, I was always posting sketches like this online, which were showing small scenes and situations (which is one of the reasons I took my old FB page offline. There were way too many spoiler sketches on it. XD As soon as the actual strip catches up with these sketches, I'll probably take said page online again and perhaps merge it with my current page. So if you haven't seen that page, don't worry, one day you'll get the chance again :> )

Anyway, I haven't published this sketch yet, but always meant to. It shows my idea of how Sam and Charlene meet. Thankfully it was no problem to translate this scene into a strip :>

Charlene's hair was a bit different back then too. I changed her straight bangs into that hairstyle with the clip, since that fits her character better...although I miss her bangs a bit XD

Anyway, hope you like it ^^

Not too far-fetched. I had a student like that (I taught at a university) that sat in the back hiding behind another student where all I saw of her is what we see of Charlene here. Making an effort to know her eventually paid off as I found she was in 4-H and did horseback riding. My wife and I went to see her ride at the county fair. She and her husband (another student of mine) remain good friends to this day.

Aw, that's really sweet :3 I think it's great to approach people like that (as long as it's in a sensible way, I should say.) When I was a kid, it seems like only people with a strong self esteem will be seen, while people who are more shy and introvert fell behind, even if they have the same skills or even better skills compared to their extrovert counterparts. I guess that kinda changed with the opportunities of showing off work online. In fact, I was shocked to see so many great artist being actual shy people offline. I always thought I was the oddball as a kid XD Anyway, may I ask what you did teach? I wish I had more teachers like you :)
