These strips are from a span across the end of the second quarter, mostly dealing with Burga's addiction and the demon across the way.  Yes-yes-yes--I was feeling REAL clever with all that sly-yet-obvious symbolism and metaphor, whatever... and no one seemed to "get it".  The audience thought PUNK 00 was a robot, Burga was taking actual drugs, that we were advocating for illegal drug usage, and this was a mere rivalry of humans.  I was sad; I failed.... but by the end, everyone understood what was going on.

That rendering effect on PUNK in the last panel of one strip was RIPPED directly from a technique Arthur Adams used in the final panel of LONGSHOT's 1986 miniseries, issue #6.  That always stuck with me, and I was glad I could use it.

Our ambition was echoed by the ambitions of the football players during this huge arc.

When we started IN SECURITY, Carson Wentz was hired as the starter for the Eagles.  Carson was raised and educated in North Dakota and went to Philly to start his career in NFL football.  Coincidentally, I was raised and educated in the Philly area and moved to North Dakota to begin my career in comic strips (cheap living facilitating a foray).  I believed this was a sign... I'm pretty sure it was just a coincidence, now.  However, the Eagles were going to the Super Bowl during our first year of IN SECURITY, and we were excited, knowing we would end the series on a Super Bowl.  I desperately BELIEVED the Eagles would reappear in the Super Bowl as we ended the series on the Super Bowl... and yet... here we are.  Eagles are back in the Super Bowl, and will almost certainly win.  No more Carson Wentz, but we don't live in North Dakota now.

I'm still wondering if that was candy or drugs he was eating. Does he think he's not strong?, or is he just sensitive to sugar?

I thought that I was the only one that had a massive Jolly Rancher addiction.

Candy, but in his blood, it’s like crack cocaine on a multiplication bender. Diners were about balanced meals—no sneaking glucose spikes!
