Hey all!

I've patched and tidied up Kabu some! Thanks to all for the ideas and for the glitch reports! Download it below! To update the game, just save the new game folder over the old one. Your progress will be saved so don't worry! (Just FYI, game progress is saved in your appdata folder bc that's the only way to make it work at all on macs.)

Here's what's changed:
- Fixed some bugs, including the one where it plays another hand over the victory image.
- Added some ways to get bonus points during play so gallery unlocking is a little faster.
- You'll no longer face the same opponent twice in a row.
- Altered the rarity of a few characters.

In addition to this I've also sped up the pace of the game just a bit by tightening up some of the brief pauses in the game and by removing the dialogue bubble when the opponent is in the parry phase.

There are still a couple glitches I can't recreate or even figure out, though. Some people have had the game just sort of stop in the middle of a round when facing Graham. I've altered his AI a bit so hopefully that helps there. There's still some more tidying to do but I wanted to take care of this big stuff first.

Macs. Macs macs macs. They just don't like running anything lately using this game dev engine. I've had reports of stretching graphics, problems with variables being recognized, and more. This is all due to semi-recent mac OS update that basically made a lot of indie dev stuff just not work anymore. I can't really do anything about it until VNMaker updates. If you use a mac and are having problems, try using WINE and playing the windows version, which seems to work just fine for everyone that's tried it.

The new bonus points fall in line with the rest of the game's general theme of gambling and gachapon. Drawing a 0 or 9 as your first card will grant you an immediate 10 bonus gallery points, as will having a total score of 0 or 9 on your fourth draw.

Some folks have mentioned that they want to unlock the character portraits as a reward for winning a game against them. I do not want to do this because it leaves you with no reason to play that character again after getting all their portraits. That's why you win gallery points instead of images, so facing opponents you already have all the portraits of is still useful. There is a chance I may implement a dual unlocking system in the future, but only after there are a lot more characters and character art. For now, the gallery will be unlocked via points.

Additionally, some have proposed getting bonus gallery points for successful gambits or counters. I don't want to do this either, as it encourages aggressive game play. Cape Kabu is a game where losing is inevitable. The game is about mitigating loss and rewards reserved play, saving gambit or counter attempts for opportune moments.

That's all for now! Thanks so much for all the support and comments and glitch reports too! The next major update is scheduled for Late January or Early February, where I'm planning to add more new characters plus more new outfits and victory portraits of the characters already in the game.

In the meantime I'll be updating and fixing glitches, posting WIPs and other Cape related art and porno, and opening another patron character reward contest soon, too! Stay tuned and thanks everyone!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, and forgive me if this was already mention before, but I found a glitch while playing Kristoff. He drew two cards and then thegameplay froze completely. However, I'm grateful for the additional bonuses. Looking forward to more.

No worries, it's good to know about these things so I can try to work them out! I still haven't been able to recreate this glitch yet so it's hard for me to figure out why it's happening. Was Kristof the dealer when that occurred?

After unlocking the full gallery Brian's Nude 2 is still greyed out. It's clickable, but visually looks locked. Also, are the ?????? entries under Willy supposed to stay question marks after being unlocked?

WillyBearBeach

Oh, thanks for the heads up on that gallery glitch! That's annoying lol. The question marks are meant to remain after they are unlocked but only because I kind of crunched on the gallery to get it done before the first release and that was on my 'non-essentials' list. It'll be updated in the a future update, very likely the next one.

I say all this in due respect, since I admire you as an artist and were it not for you and other members of the furry community, I would not be the person I am today. That being said, I have come across a few issues in the pc version. There was one instance where the game froze while I was playing Kristof. Also, when given the option to hit or call, I've experienced a little bit of lag. Occasionally when I unlock a new gallery pic, it doesn't show up. I also personally feel that Dark Willy doesn't get enough frequency in appearances. I've only faced off against him once and after several more rounds, I haven't seen him since. Aside from all that, I think the whole concept of the game is pitch perfect. You kind of learn as you're playing, and even though the game doesn't hold your hand too much, you don't necessarily feel the need for it to because of how easy it is to pick up. Eventually, after some trial and error, you kind of develop your own play style and it just comes naturally. I look forward to seeing what this game has in store for the future. Who knows? Maybe even have a four player version with multiplayer capabilities or even your own rendition of Riichi.

Thank you for the very kind comments!! And for reporting the glitches too. I am still trying to work out the game freezing glitch 😨 I haven't been able to reproduce it but I am reworking some of the engine to hopefully have that fixed. I'll be working on the gallery in the next update too. I crunched on it and missed a few things when I made it. Thank u for checking it out and for your support!

Grissy

Even though my character doesn't make it, it's still great to play a lovely made a very great person. Been a fan since the Notes from the Cape series. You are a very great artist!

Hey, it's me again! I've run into the same problem. It's still Graham, at a score of six as Dealer. This is playing as the updated model, thought I'd let you know.

WillyBearBeach

That's the big one I'm working on next, still trying to reproduce/figure it out. Hopefully that plus a couple other little issues will be wrapped up soon and I'll put it out asap! Ty!
