Wait- Mel was her legal guardian? I thought Talita aged out of foster care without getting adopted? (Did I miss something?)

if i remember correctly, they were a foster worker for talita when talita aged out of the youth foster care douglas worked for!

She was Mel's legal/financial dependant during college while she was getting her engineering degree. Not quite an "adoption" scenario because Talita was an adult, but Mel was the de facto legal guardian for her aged 18-23.
