sirawit can technically drink everyone else's water, right? on a ship like the runaway would they have two water systems [for 'yes Co' and 'no Co'], or just purify the cobalt out of everything?

The Runaway taps dispense purified water because it's compatible for everyone. Those who find the taste bland can add salts tablets to their water bottles.

i genuinely love learning about, reading, and looking at alien and space food. it's fascinating that i find all of it extremely tasty looking but knowing i wouldn't be able to eat it without getting sick

Nah, it's just salty. Sirawit avoids drugs as much as possible because their dun parent has addiction problems, so Sirawit has bad associations with inebriation

I'm so curious how those glasses/cups work. They look like they're open at the top, but with a groove that ends in a little spoon shape. Does the liquid not just escape through the top? Or would being mostly-contained help it retain a surface-tension adherence? I don't know enough about zero-G to know if it's something you created or not haha

On the ISS they invented a glass you can drink out of with a groove in it. It works by capillary action, so the liquid water kind of wicks along the groove instead of blobbing and staying stuck in the cup, so you can drink out of an open container in 0-low G rather than the usual pouches. I imagine those glasses on the Runaway are just an improvement on that rudimentary design! (The ISS glasses were so they could toast, i believe, cause humans are used to cups and they were getting a little sad always sipping out of straws, they wanted to drink how they're used to [I THINK!])
