I have been procrastinating on things by drawing little comics like these. Been fooling around with Idrisah's character more because of scenes I'm currently writing in the book.

1: Idrisah's Tiiliitian handwriting vs Sirawit's. Sirawit picked up hearts from human culture. They dot their Latin alphabet "i"s with hearts sometimes too.

2: The signatures of the main 4 ladies.

3: I drew this after doing some research and learning that colloquial Hindi and Urdu are essentially the same language (Hindistani) though they tend to be written in the Devanagari and Arabic scripts respectively. Shyam is fluent in Hindi; Idrisah knows some Urdu from her dad's side of the family, but is better at listening comprehension than speaking it. Talita took Portuguese in highschool and has forgotten most of it. Her biggest second language skill by the time she meets Shyam is ASL.

Oh I feel Talita's face on a spiritual level in the last panel

Xbccg as someone who has a minor case of dyslexia and never got the hang on writing/reading it i agree with Gillie that cursive is BS xD

😂👍💖💯🥰
that last panel with all the "???" is perfect

Was Talita speaking to Shyam out of her trunk and not opening her mouth purposeful? Cute comics btw!

Gillie has it right, cursive is effectively another language to me. Shopping list or Christmas card in cursive? I’m more interpreting the possible meaning based of overall word shapes than actually reading the words.

She can't speak out of her mouth, it's not connected to her respiratory system. She only opens it for expressions.

why is sirawit the best character in runaway to the stars? 🥺

late to the party but I remembered I wanted to ask: why do Idrisah and Gillie use different pronouns for Sirawit?

Jay Eaton

Sirawit's a he/they, either works. Though technically Gillie uses the same pronoun for everything, since in ASL you just. Point. At them, yourself, or off to the side for a third party who isn't present
