No points for guessing Talita's ethnic group.

Most of these names are derived from the names that the Shess call the other ethnic groups, since that's where the majority of alien embassies are on the centaur homeplanet.

The centaur homeplanet has a 51 degree axial tilt, meaning that during the Northern winter, the South pole bakes, and vice versa. Most of the settled regions are in the equatorial sweet spot where it's not tundra half the year and nightless desert for the other half.

The recently formed megacontinent forms a continuous loop around the globe, and nomadic groups generally walk entire the loop every year. Nightchasers are the groups that follow the planet's winters, entering the polar areas during their spring seasons. The sunchasers follow the planet's summers, entering  the polar areas during their autumn. The nomads mostly travel along the East Ocean's coast, so that's where the most geneflow happens in the settled groups.

The majority of centaurs living in space are from the nomadic ethnicities. The Shess call them Skychasers.

I believe the Bug Ferrets were the first to make contact with the Centaurs, in 2251.

biing tusk curve a result of simple genetic drift in an isolate population or does it have a practical application as well? bit of both?

Jay Eaton

I added it mostly as an example of genetic drift. I feel like the practical application would mostly be fighting....

SPOTS! gosh they're all cute.

Vic

Is it a reach to wonder if the sunchaser and nightchaser groups were one ethnic group at one point? Or did they come to their respective cycles independently?

Jay Eaton

They're closer in appearance and lifestyle to the ancestors of modern centaurs, but their ethnic origins is kind of unclear. They tend to pick up genes from all around, so their traits just trend towards whatever is better camouflage during the planetary spring and autumn.

This is so creative! I love them all so much!

I love seeing this sort of stuff. Far too often, I feel like alien species are treated as ethnic, cultural, and linguistic monoliths. Adding diversity makes it all feel so much more alive and plausible.

are there any alien immigrants (or cultural researchers??) on the centaur home planet? if so, what's their population and where would they live?

Jay Eaton

Most of the established alien development is on the Shess peninsula, mostly embassies and cultural/biomedical research stations. The most established area of the East peninsula is the Auolut region. There's not really any full fledged immigrants because of food and supply limitations

Am I correct in guessing that Wintle-Layliv is Shta?

Jay Eaton

I designed them before I decided on the global ethnicities, but southern Shess or Northern Shta is a good fit.

Who did the Centaurs first contact?

Timonger

Would it be too much to hope for a little animation of the Centaur home planet's rotation and seasons? This is so cool, love the detail!

What influences lead the Daewirgh to seem so much…beefier? Thicker? than the other groups? I was guessing they were in a more polar region, but it doesn’t seem significantly colder/icier than the Pahk or Aulut regions get.
