A true return to form on my no-panel-border scribble comics, I banged this out in an hour in a cafe with a stolen ball point pen. Don't @ me about the cooking stuff, I haven't actually designed the kitchen layout for the titular ship yet.

This takes place on the Runaway after Turii blackmails the crew into giving them a ferry ride, dragging along their shy travel assistant Sirawit. Sirawit eventually starts to open up to the Runaway crew after they're consistently nice to them and treat them like a person and not a piece of furniture.

They are a sweetie, if a little naive. Sirawit is the youngest of the main reoccurring cast at 17 years old (which is about 25 in human years). Them and Talita certainly have a lot to talk about.

Love Sirawit so much, they're very good and cute

Sirawit is so excellent. I love their interactions with Talita. Out of curiousity, though - since humans and avians have to be on separate drinking water systems per the Dirtball diagram, how did Sirawit and their dad handle things? Bottled water?

Jay Eaton

The tunnel has the infrastructure to circulate, treat, and deliver tap water compatible with both humans and avians. It requires more room and quality control than Dirtball has, so the solution on Dirtball was just putting them on seperate loops.

Aaron

I love and care Sirawit SO MUCH.

When Sirawit is speaking english does he pronounce things differently like Bug Ferrets since Avians don't have lips?

Jay Eaton

They can kind of "fake" lip consonants using the syrinx (similar to earth birds like parrots). Their consonants and voices while speaking human language tend to sound a little indistinct and marbles-in-the-mouth, though. I would compare it to those videos of angry cats "talking"

I want to spiritually hug them both so bad

I'm going to steal that "I've got long ears" line.

You're very good at expressing awkwardness/vulnerable storytelling by the characters. Without the story itself being awkward. I love it

i'm glad that sirawit and talita get along! i saw on tumblr that they were both cross species adoptees and i wondered if they would get along because of it. i knew they had a friendship already, so this is super cute!
