In this tutorial we start with a very simple sketch design and I show you how I expand it to make it a more and more complex drawing and composition.  I also talk about and show you how you can use the placement of objects in a scene to GUIDE the viewer's eye around the scene to create a nice flow.

Disclaimer that I was fighting a stomach bug while working on the piece in this tutorial, so it is, perhaps, extra messy in the sketches and I had some struggle bus moments, but maybe it's also valuable to show those moments to you as well!

And Fun fact, I took a shower right before doing the voiceover, so you can watch my hair dry as the tutorial goes on.  lol

Anyhoo I hope you enjoy and I have attached the 2 brushes that I used in this tutorial below (though, if you've been here a while, you probably already have them!)

It's so awesome to see artists I love work in the same kind of way I do. It feels weirdly validating lol. I'm just starting to get into drawing more complex images/backgrounds and will be coming back to this tutorial time and time again! ❤️

I really liked this tutorial. I liked seeing the process of starting with something like a woman sitting in a cafe and then it turns into two witches in a cat cafe. When you are drawing are you thinking about a story you want to tell with your art?

So glad you liked it! It definitely depends on the piece but often, it is less that I have a fleshed out story idea in mind in the beginning, and more that I discover the story and imagine it as I work on a piece. So it is kind of fun because it is like I am learning about the story as it develops in the drawing!
