A little about the process

Believe it or not, this was meant to be a quick and simple piece.  🎨✨February always gives me a little bit of stress because it is the shortest month of the year, and it doesn't ever feel like there's enough time to get to my monthly list of things to do!  SO, I thought, "oh, I'll do a quick and simple artwork of Aphrodite.  It'll be perfect because of valentines day, she'll make a good spicy piece, and it's just fun to draw her.  I'm sure I can whip something up in a couple of hours."  

Days later... and here we are!

I felt like this piece was a slightly different exploration of Aphrodite then pieces I have done in the past.  First time pulling her hair up, and first time imagining the "birth" of Venus.  

For the ribbons in her hair, I actually did go back and look at the classic "birth of Venus" painting by Botticelli, and noticed her loooong hair and how it was somewhat tied back with ribbons.  

Despite this piece being originally intended to be quick, I just kept painting and adding bits to it and then thought it would be cool with the frame and the wave, so I just had to go with it.  Isn't it funny how whenever you think you'll do something quick and easy, it just never goes that way?  🌊

Anyway, closer to the end of the piece I was struggling a bit with what kind of dress to give her.  In the myth, she obviously emerges from the ocean waves completely nude, so I didn't want a dress that was "too much," if you get what I mean.  

I finally landed on this very sheer white simple dress.  I wanted it to seem as if it was almost made of a thin film of seafoam itself.
