The director's cut combines parts 1 and 2 from YouTube.

Is The Kissing Booth Twilight with more energy? Is The Kissing Booth Baywatch with teenagers? Do you even know what Baywatch is?

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright have recovered from the Twilight series, and the internet demands their pain, so now they’re reacting to The Kissing Booth. They cringe at how the film lusts at and objectifies high schoolers. They groan at the overused tropes of the boring good guy and the bad guy with a heart of gold who happens to be hot and rich. The Kissing Booth is lusty and icky, but at least it has good energy and humor… sometimes.

Stay tuned for part 2 where they get to watch more toxic teenage relationships. Yay.

More Kissing Booth. Ew. More terrible dialogue. Ew. Still no apple boxes. Why!?

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright are continuing to react to (and suffer through) The Kissing Booth. They discuss the horrible relationship dynamics between Noah and Elle. They are frustrated by the cheesy score, poor green screen compositing, and the ridiculous framing of the actors. At least Twilight mustache dad shows up and has good things to say. After one movie, Jono’s brain has been liquified, and Alan swears almost as much as Tarantino. Dare they watch the rest?

I have never had the wish to see this movie, and watching you all suffer through this has reaffirmed my need to never watch this movie (or its sequels) EVER. Totally agree that this is just as bad as the Twilight series in regards to relationships. If you ever get around to it, I think it would be cool for you guys to break down and analyze either "Lady in the Water" or "The Princess Bride". (By the way if you all haven't seen either Oscar, Keeping Mum, The Whole Shebang (with Stanley Tucci), or The Impostors, do yourselves a favor and enjoy them!)

It's so bad, even the dog (Gandalf?) Got up to leave

People who struggle with anger, and people in relationships with those people, need much better representation. :/

On TV, a woman in a car driven by a man telling him "This isn't the way home..." is frequently the setup to a serial killer murder.

I resent the use of the Pride and Prejudice motife. A botched proclamation of love in a rain sodden gazebo belongs to Mr. Darcy. The man who actually learned from his mistakes. It's like they smashed a really REALLY bad misinterpretation of P&P with a teen movie and pumped out this calamity. It is a gross abuse of the Jane Austen story! 😡

This felt like an amalgamation of every awful fan fic I’ve ever read but with original names slapped on top. You’d be dead if you took a drink every time there was a poorly done trope. Everything from the scene beats, the odd lack of clothing, and especially the dialogue, I can guarantee I’ve read before and they aren’t good memories 😂. Don’t get me wrong, fan fiction is a great opportunity to learn to write, get feedback, and tell amazing stories. I don’t mind digging through to find the good stuff, but stuff like what’s in this movie is the reason it gets a bad rap and someone actually paid for it…

regarding the question of "why people are into that genre" i think most women are so sick of taking al the mental load in their families live and wish that someone took over so they do not have to carry any of these burdens any more. and while their own partners might use the "i have to work to provide for us, you are a housewife, i did my part, do yours" point for themselves a rich powerfull guy does not need to go to work like that so he has the time to be all around you again. i actually never saw or read twilight, 50 shades or any of these, but I am in the lucky position to have a husband that wants to take responsability about getting trhough our daily live and taking the mental load on him, too. my sister on the other hand has a very old fashioned relationship (and they are in their late twenties) she is all about those books where women find these rich men and so on. not the abusers, but that sexy rich person. maybe i am totally wrong. but this is what I discovered while looking around me

I would love yo know Alan's thoughts on the voice over commentary on Wednesday!

I love the guys reaction to the after party bedroom scene. Noah is manipulating El and she's half naked... and it's legitimately funny. AND you can see how guilty Jono and Alan look for laughing about it. 😅

Thank you for watching this so I don’t have to!!

I really want you to do closer. All the relationships are toxic, but they aren’t glamorized.

That was so painful!! My jaw literally dropped when you said there were sequels 🤢🤢

You should do Heartstopper! Literally the most wholesome of high school romances.

I mean, I knew there where sequels, but had forgotten, and totally agree with Rachel about their existence. Though I do not remember if they were as bad or not...they probably were. Also, yes I would love to see their opinions on the sequels. Plus then I do not have to rewatch them to remember what they were about. :)

I haven't seen this movie, or even heard of it, but it looks soooo painful.

Angie

Such a crap movie; I think it may even be insulting to Hallmark movies to compare it to them 😂

Michael Emerson

Sorry but PLEASE WATCH MORE. Your suffering makes good content.

Magnus Taliesin

speaking as someone from kansas, the dad DOES look like a chiefs fan!

The creep on the beach does give Ted Bundy vibes doesn’t he?

I love Joel Courtney in Jesus Revolution, his talent was wasted on this franchise. For example, he gets a girlfriend in this series that we are supposed to care about but don’t (no offense to her) because they don’t build on their story. They just focus on these two and it’s not good. Another example of a side character being more interesting than one of the leads. Again not necessarily the actors’ faults. The writing is bad, score horrible, the direction oof, and the scenes and costumes aren’t even that interesting.
