Get me the Birdman.

There haven't been a lot of constants in the 10+ years since Pretty Much It launched, but there has been at least one...

Spider-Man.

Half a decade ago, Jake, Mike, & I did commentary tracks for the original Tobey trilogy, as well as the Andrew series, but we never got around to Tom.

Now, in anticipation of all of our favorite Spidey characters returning in No Way Home, it's finally time for us to watch Spider-Man: Homecoming.

We have a lot of problems with MCU Spidey, but a few years removed from it are we able to find more to enjoy than we could back when it was first released? We can't help that we grew up with Tobey, and even Andrew to a point, but perhaps Tom will surprise us upon rewatch.

...or does Iron Man's looming shadow over this franchise make him the ultimate villain?

Years we’ve waited. “Not fond of MCU Spidey” they said. Yet here we are. I’m fucking elated.

About halfway through the track and felt the urge to say this- I think wording is super important with spider-man critiques. I liked and understood when Eric started talking about how he's not tryna shit on the movie but this just isn't HIS spiderman, I'm not on the same boat but like can't be mad at that. I think it's weird though when people say "why is __" instead of "I wish it was ___". Basically: "I wish spider-man didn't have a best friend who knew his secret" is cool, "WHY does spider-man have a best friend who knows his secret" is odd. This character has been around for 60 years, he's gone through so many different iterations and creative runs in the amazing spider-man comics alone, let alone the dozens of other (sensational, ultimate, friendly neighbourhood) spider-man comic runs. As long as you get the core tenants of his character right, his want to save people, his difficulty balancing Peter and spiderman, etc. Anything past that point is a new interpretation of a character that isn't any 1 thing. I love people's love for the raimi movies, but it's weird when people say "spider-man should be ___" just because that's how he was in the raimiverse, cause that universe misses a lot of my favourite stuff- he's not very techy or intelligent outside of people saying he's intelligent and 1-2 throwaway lines, and he's not very quipy with the mask on. Every interpretation will be different, and that's what I love about the character. I wish (and like I said, you guys did this a bit although you sometimes went in the other direction) that people would talk about it explicitly as a preference instead of "spider-man can't have this, that's bad". Within reason of course, some things are very anti-spider-man, but at this point I'm surprised there's so much pushback when things aren't identical to the movies from 20 years ago- if they were all the same, we'd be bored to death by now. Sorry that was so long lol but as an mcu spidey fan I had a couple thoughts 😅
