This whole episode just pissed me off hearing these guys think the whole time that Zach is innocent like he's definitely the best character but urgggh this is so annoying!!!

The welcome to your tape thing reminded me of how at the end of my freshman year I was running for sophomore ASB elections, and a big part of it was creating clever posters to get people to want to vote for you. And since 13 Reasons Why was going through it's whole meme phase I thought oh why not do something related to that. So one of my posters was "vote for -my name- for -whatever the hell I was running for-. If not.... welcome to your tape."

I think the point of Zach's tape is both that he kicked Hannah while she was down, and then when he had a chance to redeem himself and help her, he stood by and did nothing. You guys missed it early on, but she explains that in her depression one of the only good things she still experienced was getting compliments in her communications class mailbox, but after she rebuffed Zach he started stealing them. That's what he did that sent Hannah even deeper into loneliness and depression, and on top of that he didn't speak out after reading her letter or hearing the note in class. So yeah, Zach's not a bad guy, but he still fucked up, because being a passive bystander when you could help someone is almost just as bad as hurting them (which is why this reason was one of my favorites in the series).
