Sea King is the name in the subs for Sea Beasts

Extra Crispy

The big sea monsters are called sea kings I don’t know why they were called sea beasts at the start but from this point on they are referred too as sea kings. Also arlongs primary method of attack being him hurling his whole body at luffy head first is absolutely hilarious makes me laugh every time.

Trout

According to the wiki sea beasts are just comicly large mammals, while sea kings are vicious non mammal creatures that are even bigger

The shenanigans in these fights never get old man. The Sea King that they mentioned is just one of many, they are just comically giant Sea Monsters all over the world's seas. Other translations may call them Sea Beasts or Neptunians.

Don't worry, this fight IS silly! The tone of the Arlong Park encounter changes almost completely the second Luffy comes out of the sea. Luffy is a silly little rubber guy and his fights can be really fun because of that!

Mr Red

Don't worry guys, it's intended to be funny, watching Luffy messing around so much never gets old, and he comes with the craziest ideas that somehow work lol

There is a bit of confusion here that I am seeing in the comments so allow me to give you some clarity. The translation is correct, these are known as "Sea Beasts" aqautic mammals that inhabit the ocean mostly found in the "Grand line". The ocean creature Mamoo is the first sea beast that is introduced to luffy and the crew during his journey. How ever "Sea Kings" are not to be confused with sea beasts and its not something that has been introduced in the story yet.

👆👍 Right, to put it in stone, if it has mammal qualities, it is a Sea Beast. Not all monsters are Sea Beasts, nor as easy to tame as Sea Beasts.

I don't know if this is a spoiler but you guys have kind of already analyzed it this way and it’s kind of obvious at this point, but Arlong and the "Fishman race" in particular is one of the first characters I can say that is more deeply connected to the world and story of OP unlike Kuro and Don Kreig so yeah there is something to say about the writing aspects of the plot improving as you go along and this might also have to do with one piece just becoming a bit more popular by this point. Alot of the ideas in early arcs like you said carson were more like experimental things that oda was just throwing around with no rhyme or reason. Oda still loves to have fun and come up with a lot of interesting concepts which he largely draws influences from many works, but it will be more choreographed and integrated into the larger world and story. Just wait till you see the next arc, it’s even more important than this one.

2023-11-24 10:57:43 Yeah oda deffinitly is using some restraint in the east blue saga for some of these villians lol. I mean why go all out when there is a far more dangerous grand line to explore.
