Sanji Joestar

A lot of heavy subjects introduced and we're barely started Looking forward for more

I know you guys are a little hesitant to question what was or wasn't intentional on Oda's part, even just hypothetically, but its honestly one of my favorite things that you two discuss. I watched One Piece for the first time when I was 15 and for a long time I had no concept of different writing styles, exploratory vs architectural writing for example, I just thought of everything as intentional and relating to either something in the past or future. I've since learned a lot about what makes for good stories, good writing, etc. but there are still things that I don't think about and questioning the intentionality of some aspects of this story is just so fun to hear you guys talk about.

Spandam mentioned the World Government is made up of 170 affiliated nations (presumably with their own local leadership). We can assume now that the descendants of the 20 founding members are more exalted than the rest.

AJ

Why dont u guys write notes?? Better then guessing, Write down important stuff

hussam abdelalim

founding fathers kinda situation with the OG 20

Boldcast

Ehh We’re pretty good at remembering but we can’t write down every single detail. Like how would I have known to write down whether or not the people referred to the red line as a wall in the past Were usually pretty close with what we’re saying and that’s good enough

hussam abdelalim

please note the dicks on there heads, should be a clear indication of what they are

AJ

Fair, im not saying that u have to, Its just a suggestion to improve the discussion. That if u forgot something u can look back to

Dark side of one piece has presented itself

Artemis

The "saturday morning children's programing era" of one piece is over. Your now finally getting into the real darker side of the story.

EOussama

The Creators, 20 kings, 800 years, World Government, Celestial Dragons, I love this episode in particular, just earlier we were excited for the amusement park but Oda decides this is the time to really reveal the dark plot of the story.

klairvoyage

I think you might have missed it back then, but the last episode of Drum Island, when Dalton was thinking back to baby Vivi & Wapol's encounter at the "council of the world leaders", it was indeed taking place at the "Holy Land of Mariejois" – being the 1st time we saw it & referred to as such.

Welcome to One Piece

What kind of pirates hang out here? The dumb ones and the ones who can back their shit up lol Btw thanks for the big drop of reactions! This arc is a fucking banger.

Mister Kap

Like was mentioned in Enies Lobby, the world government is formed of over 170 affiliated nations. We can presume that 20 of those belonged to the original founders, and that the remaining 150+ joined sometime after the founding of the world government, and thus aren't connected to the celestial dragons.

BTImelesS

I think that when you were talking about the most dark things you 've seen in this world you forgot about the Genocide of Ohara! Also, pirates have to come through here to go to the new world but a lot will be cleared later so I 'm sure you'll have a better idea about the world after this arc.

Extra Crispy

The mixture of shock horror and delight on Carson’s face at the introduction of the celestial dragons has me dying 😂.

So technically Pell can never be enslaved

Adam Vialpando

This was never a Saturday morning cartoon. That was what I learned when I saw Luffy punch a guy wearing a spike cloak with his bare hand.

Artemis

lol its just an expression. I am more specifically reffering to the manga it self then the anime. Obvously the manga has went through some dramatic changes in terms of editorial work, reduced censorship and certain differences in oda's demographic it self. Which is why the OP story takes on more mature themes of writing, not just nudity and violence but also less linar type of story telling because his readers are probably not 90% children anymore at this point like they were in the early days of OP. That is my guess anyways.
