This page was a culmination of wanting to design a huge medieval bath, and to ramp up the mystery a little with some silent pages of Kapel making his moves.

I had been going back and forth in my head about how I wanted to incorporate the big stone bath, some plants, and windows—specifically whether I wanted plants to be flowing through old broken windows, or if they’d be in growing wild the room. Adding big monstera-like plants thriving in the room, and letting lots of yellow light flood the scene would better sell a sense of humid warmth that would invite the reader into the scene with a few extra senses.

Across these three screenshots you can get a good sense of the set that I 3D modeled in Blender. I figured that if the entire end third of the comic were going to take place here, it would be worth the effort make a relatively elaborate model that I could pose and draw to keep all of the proportions equal across all the panels.

It also let me workshop some lighting conditions so I could find something that looked good with my goals, and that I could in turn reference when coloring.

At this point in the process, I was feeling pretty comfortable with the look of the coloring, so I trusted myself to be able to paint the water, and I could leave a lot of white space to let the lighting tell a lot of the story instead of the inks.
