Moving forward I plan not to be blurring non-sexual nudity in the SFW tier. Please let me know if that’s weird or you don’t like it so I can figure something else out.

Anyhow, inside the semi-ruined complex, we have a caldarium. I started getting into the design with the arches and vaulting and so many steps before I figured it would be better to hash it out later in blender. I just wanted to set up the vague vibe of the architecture—lots of stairs, like bleachers. To walk up and down or to sit on and enjoy the heat and the steam.

(Pages 22-23, digital roughs from Wilfrith and Grwn)

Grwn’s little clutch holds all of his grooming tools. Here oil and a strigil to scrape the dirt and grime off the body, in keeping with the romanlike look and feel of the scene. There’s a lot here that I don’t think I adequately explored with the values, but this was a helpful exercise to get the compositions down this much. Some of the gestures and motions need to be a little clarified too.

Still working out Grwn, but it’s getting closer. By the end of this process, returning to him here should be pretty easy. It always takes me a couple dozen pages for a character to settle in the space between my hand and brain—where they become their final form in how I currently draw. Grwn’s still getting there. I don’t quite understand how he really looks or moves yet, but by the end of this roughs process returning to him should be pretty easy here.
