A piece I wrote for the Guardian: Three things (Patreon)

Hi loves.
Greetings from En Zed / Aotearoa.
With Ash and trying to mum and vacation with my fam while trying to funeral and grieve and trying to prep for tour.
It’s a lot, but my heart is steady under all of it. You all hold me.
This place - Waiheke, where I spent almost 2 years of my life, and locked down with a kid for some of it - taught me so much about how to stay steady in the waves; it’s not shocking me that it would all hit the fan once again while I’m on this island of all places. This little island. Oh I love you. Full of people and loss, and full cycles, now.
I have so much to share about so many people I’ve just lost and it’s such torture to not have any writing or desk time. But I’ll get there.
While we are in the realm of loss:
I wanted to share this article that I penned for the Guardian, about things and losing them.
“Maybe they’re just quietly liberated, relieved and floating through space as a lacy trio, beckoning us gracefully towards a better world.”
My god. The wedding dress. Great story, gotta say, and gets more poignant over time. If you remember the older days, I also talked about the dress in a little patron-funded doco called “Bride-tripping”, but it was before the marriage ended. All so beautifully full circle, loss and material.

Oof, that first pause.
Fuck, man.
I’m getting better at losing things, and ideas, and people.
What I endured?
I’m still enduring.
We all are.
The hope, the light: I’m really really excited for this tiny tour. In a new way. To hold things and sing for a different purpose. To tell these stories in a new way. To start a long process of healing and home-coming. To see what music can fix.
I’m gonna try HARD to stream one of the shows for you patrons. It’s late notice but it feels important. More than ever, really. I need to connect all of this together.
Queenstown is all sold out and the others are getting there. Melbourne is the biggest hall (2,400) and needs the most boost, spread the word, my Melbourne peeps.
