Hello loves.

Never a dull moment around here.

Love from LA. I'm at my family's house in the hills, tip tapping away on my laptop instead of taking in the California sun, but that's why I am who I am.

Brian and I kicked the SHIT out of some new Dresden Dolls material in the rehearsal studio yesterday....here's two live streams: one of us on FB playing "Backstabber" and on IG playing "Shores of California" during our breakneck 4-hour marathon before hitting stage tonight in LA.

WE ALSO FINISHED A NEW SONG and for the love of baby jesus I hope we get to play it in LA tonight while it's smoking hot off the press.

MEANWHILE....THE TOUR CONTINUES!!!!

We JUST put these ticket links up to the Dolls' mailing list subscribers. The tickets are FLYING. If you msised it, the remaining ticketds, if there are any, will go on sale to the public next Friday (Dec 15th) at 10am local time. Set ALARMS.

..........

As I posted to socials just now...these cities are special to us and not at all chosen at random.

These are our people.

Austin has been a massive part of our history as a band (and we’ll get to visit THOR), Dallas too, and god….Texas needs the love. The last time I played in Atlanta, I officiated a queer wedding with the community. I can’t wait to see that city again.

MEMRIES:

Nashville…I mean, it’s Nashville.

The venue there is a new and a special one, Brooklyn Bowl, run by our pal Pete Shapiro. It’ll be a gorgeous night.

The political climate in the south is turbulent and agonizing for many in our community - to say the least - and there couldn’t be a better time to bring the Punk Cabaret.

We’re coming for you, my friends. We’re coming.

.....

Lastly:

I took part in this beautiful collage about Sinéad for New York Magazine/Vulture that came out today:

Read it here: https://www.vulture.com/article/sinead-o-connor-wake.html?fbclid=IwAR0VUqaGcT-IgZp9ytjX_6zhoqDq5gGilm5Ci0BC8KqyXvMMgtfZl4ZXuhQ

If you don’t have time to read the whole piece, choice quote:

‘The other idols that I had, like Cindy Lauper and Madonna, were amazing trailblazers in their own way, but they weren’t sitting down and looking you in the eye and saying, “This fucking happened to me, and I’m going to write about it, and you’re going to know. I’m just going to tell you the truth.” I wish I could stare deep into the pools of her beautiful eyes and say thank you for everything you gave us.’

I was honored to be one of the voices in this little collection. (Also so happy they grabbed my words for the headline. THE MACHETE!!!!)

It's weird.

I still feel so shaken and strange in the wake of her death, but this infuses me with something hard to name.

In a few hours, I’ll be on a stage in LA, screaming my own pain-songs to a couple thousand people, and it’s all a reminder to not take a second of that time on stage for granted.

To not be afraid to rip my own picture.

To not underestimate my own powers as an artist, a feminist, a songwriter, creature that people don’t quite understand.

To not get too sad and discouraged when people are afraid of me, and my power.

To not be afraid of that own power myself.

To honor the fallen by singing as loud as I can, without shame. Without wavering.

With gentleness. With compassion. With care: for myself, for Brian, and everyone around me. My stage crew. The community. The ticket-takers. Everyone. Everyone.

ALL OF YOU.

See you tonight, LA.

I am feeling the fire.

I have my ticket for Austin and my best friend from high school and I are planning a fun weekend around it. She and I bonded over music and the Dolls were a huge part of the constant soundtrack of those years. I can't wait <3
