Hello loves.

This one is FUN.

While we're working away on the next Art-In-The-Mail offering for $25+ patrons from Joni (AND I PROMISE IT'S COMING VERY, VERY SOON, WE ARE JUST WORKING ON FINALIZING THE PAINTING DESIGN IT FOR PRINTING, wheeeee), here's a weird little surprise for y'all.

You might have seen in the Althing a few months ago that I plugged this book by UK writer/scholar Victoria Bateman.

Here's a little recap for you:

Victoria Bateman is an academic researcher from the UK, who I came across in 2019 when she was protesting Brexit using her naked body .

And then she's continued to use her body for protest....

...and as you can imagine, it's not all been pretty.

Like me, she has endured a lot of ridicule and hatred.

So, the way things go, we made friends over the Internet, because of course we did (I am, as we know, one the other Hated & Officially Often Naked Persons Of The World, whether anyone likes it or not).

(Off/on topic: This is a still from my song Dear Daily Mail, which....holy shit, I've just noticed has racked up - no pun intended - over a million and a half views on YouTube...??!! I don't keep track of these things until I look randomly and it always astounds me...and by the bay...most of my "viral" clips are posted by random strangers who I've never reached out to so I can steal the footage and monetize it ads because...I DON'T NEED TO! I HAVE PATRONAGE! THANKS GUYS.)

And now, back on topic, VICTORIA HAS written a book:

It's called

Naked Feminism: Breaking The Cult of Female Modesty, and it officially COMES OUT THIS WEEK/CAME OUT LAST WEEK/CAME OUT THIS MONTH in the UK, and is coming out in May in the USA.

......

Here's the official blurb for the book:

Is it right that, despite the promises of feminism, women’s bodies remain at the mercy of state, society and religion? Should a scantily clad woman, or a promiscuous one, be worth less than a fully covered woman, or a chaste one? Are being sexy and being smart really mutually exclusive? Can a woman be both body and brain? Victoria Bateman has confronted these questions with actions as well as words. She has appeared naked on national television, on stage, in art and at protests – using her body, as well as her brain, to deliver her message.

In Naked Feminism, Bateman makes a compelling case for women’s bodily freedom, and explains why the current puritanical revival is so dangerous for women. Illustrating the swinging pendulum of bodily modesty through the ages, she takes us on a journey from the ancient civilisations of Egypt and Babylon, through the birth of Christianity and Islam, to the lax morals of the medieval period and the bawdiness of Chaucer and Shakespeare; to the clampdowns of the Puritans and later the Victorians and, more recently, to the re-veiling of the Middle East and the purity pledges of modern-day America. She ends with a plea: feminists must unite to challenge the repression of the female body, as only then can women be truly free.

......

The website for the book is also very worth checking out:

https://www.nakedfeminism.com/

Including a wonderful FAQ that'll give you a taste of the sorts of things that are in the book.

......

I got sent an advance copy in order to provide a quote for press, and here's what I had to say:

"As honor killings and Internet influencers collide, we could all use a little help in making sense of what being unclothed really means nowadays.

I love this book and the world needs it.

It’s readable, enlightening, joyful, infuriating, irreverent, and utterly fascinating. Without preaching and with the perfect combo of heaviness and humor, our heroic author explains why nakedness - and how we think about it - is a critical topic worth laying bare."

*Bows*

......

SO.....here's the juicy bit!!!!

Victoria, by way of thanks for the blurb (and because it's also great for business and word-spreading) has offered us a BOX OF BOOKS to give away to our patrons.

We've got about 15 copies, so we'll be running this on a first come, first served basis.

If you'd like a copy of the book, email Alex at alex@amandapalmer.net - please include your name and mailing address, and let him know if your email address is different to the one you use for Patreon.

He'll get back to you and let you know whether you've got a book, and we'll also update this post once they're all claimed!!!

MAY WE ALL BE FREE AND AS NEKKID AS WE WANNA BE AND SMASH THE PATRIARCHY ..... and all that.

xxx
