From The Desk of the Moving Image…I have made a new tiny indie movie theater friend. And IT IS HALLOWEEN & SPOOKY MOVIE SEASON! And lucky me, my Woodstock pal and neighbor Andy Animal (yep, that's his name, Andy Animal) is now the curator of our adorable local indie cinema, The Tinker Street Cinema. It is literally down the street from my house!

This is the old Upstate Films, for the near-locals l, but they folded down during Covid (the Rhinebeck location is still open), and Andy took over! They run on a tiny shoestring budget, and I wanna help keep them alive and thriving!!

The joint used to be a church WAAAAY back in the day but it’s been a venue for a long time. JIMI HENDRIX PLAYED HERE when he was warming up for the Woodstock Festival in 1969!! And, I mean, how perfect is this? THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES!!

We are gonna have TONS OF FUN - if we wanna - showing shorts and longs and all sortsa movies for kids and grown-ups, I have fantasies about many marathons for patrons and the community - oh my god, David Lynch sleepovers, Alejandro Jodorowsky marathons, Jane Campion festivals, and for Christmas...a HOME ALONE 1 & 2 double-feature....it'll be like having our own little movie theater to hang out in! The Dresden Dolls have been mulling the perfect band movie to show to you all in November one night after rehearsal. I mean, how lovely is this.

Andy and I are loving brainstorming. We need to help the cinema raise some money so they can get a liquor license and then WATCH OUT, people. Casabalnca-themed cocktail parties.

COME DRESSED TO IMPRESS!!!

Ash adores this movie (and we know all the songs!) and I'm super psyched to finally be able to show it to him on the big screen. 

The tickets are $15 and I'm not making a profit, this is all to just support the cinema. COME! DRESS UP! We will have a costume contest!!! The cinema is really relaxed, and there's plenty of parking, popcorn and concessions! 

COME COME COME!! There are only about 100 tickets and it's JUST gone on sale to the public.

If you're coming in from out of town, may I recommend staying the night somewhere walkable in Woodstock, there's lots of pokey little Air BNBs and joints to crash.

Great places to eat within walking distance of the Theater:

Garden Cafe (vegan!), Yum Yum Noodle (relatively cheap and cheerful), Silvia (higher end, great oysters), Meda (great sushi), Mountain Gate (good Indian, huge portions).

Grab a drink at The Station, or the bar at Silvia.
