hey duders.

dashing this one off rather quickly on my way to the town hall meeting and meant to do this last night, but this will still be an excellent exercise. it's been over a year since the birth of this patreon and while it's going SWIMMINGLY....i need feedback, and i want to make sure everyone understands and feels kosher about everything, and so forth. i'm about to sit in a room with a few dozen of you and talk about all this in real time, but i'd also love to check in HERE in the comments before getting together with people to see if there are any concerns, thoughts, problems, ideas....so PLEASE, if you;re a lurker and you never ever comment - PLEASE DO SO ON THIS THREAD, even if it's just to say "shit is awesome, change nothing".

read this first, too, if you haven't. it'll kick off some thoughts.

....so most of what i've released so far has been fairly close to what i expected - some songs, some ALBUMS, some planned things, some surprises, some commercially successful stuff, some totally weirdo out--of-nowhere-WHAT (the naked statue book drive comes to mind) stuff that i NEVER would have done without the funding of the patreon. i think it's been pretty good.

i've learned a lot of things. i have done some things too quickly. i wish i hadn't thing'd that boston webcast, it felt a little too boring and repetitive having already done two webcasts in the months before. almost nobody complained, but i could feel the lack of enthusiasm. i always want everything to be thrilling. i supose not everything i do will be thrilling. some things will always be more thrilling than others. i have rushed through some projects and not been as deliberate as i like. i think that's okay, given how new this is, and i think the whole point of this patreon is that i can work a little more loosely than britney and taytay and madonna. i'm always a work in progress, and so is this.

that being said: I really want to hear from you guys how you think this is ALLLL going. is it what you expected? better? weirder? worse?

here's a question, a concrete one.

i brought thor & friends on this dad tour because i really wanted a back-up band, and i wanted my art family around me for company and support. it cost a lot to fly them all from austin, house them, etc etc...and i figured i'd offset those costs by doing an EXPERIMENT and locking us into our NYC nightclub for a day and trying to come up with a recording. i'm very proud of what we came up with so quickly, it's like a 20 minute poem and wander through sound, but it's certainly not a polished recording that we spent a week on. do i still thing it? you tell me.

one exciting NOTE: i'm working on a NEW WEBSITE (the old one is feeling very outdated). the team has considered Thing-ing the new website. weird. yes? no? it's expensive (the overhaul will probably cost $10k). hm.

but for now...i'm also making a AMANDAPALMER.NET/THINGS page for ALLL the patreon content, so that NEW PATRONS can access all the OLD stuff - that's one thing that's felt really stupidly missing.

and....questions...feelings....

i've Thinged songs.

i've Thinged albums.

is it okay to thing an album in two halves?

these are the Things that keep me up at night.

anyway - TALK TO ME. about anything patreon-related. i'm all ears today and in a very listening frame of mind. i'll take notes on the meeting and report bakc.

i love you guys....

see a lot of you soon

No, I Am Not Crowdfunding This Baby (an open letter to a worried fan)

How I'm slightly terrified of the oncoming mix of motherhood and art....and how judging and terrifying me further isn't going to help me. *Note: this is my first piece of writing on Medium. I'm really happy to be here, I think this platform and community of writers/thinkers is fantastic.

Would love to hear/back the Thor & Friends recording! Am also totally down to help the new website become a Thing

Loving it so far. Brilliant music, and so good to be supporting you in creating that. Two points: I'd vote against retroactive Thing-ing, like 12 Days of AFP, and think that albums should be one Thing. Since single songs are one Thing, it balances out. Other than that, I love the sense of community and, of course, the Things. ;-)

I like it

Yes, I am one of those people who usually ignore the comment part of the deal. In this case though I feel that it is really important to you to get an answer so here is my go: I am really grateful for you being so open about everything and actually asking us about our feelings for these next steps. If you choose to split an album into halves or single songs that's okay as long as you announce it beforehand. Then everybody is free to adjust their pledge if they like to. For the website project I like the idea of the "old things" site. On top of that I am seeing the chance of having a go on the exchange platform you have been talking about for a while. As long as you think about how the patrons might benefit from this new website and keep us updated on these ideas I am totally up for thinging the website project. So far I am really grateful for being allowed to be your patron and thereby part of this community. Thank you for your amazing work and especially for being you, uniquely you =)

Thing what you need to thing. That's why we're here. Also, PLEASE YES THING ARCHIVE

Thing whatever you gotta. We still love it. We know you're human, we are too, it's all suck and see for us! A thing archive would be great!!!

I think the THING-rate is pretty appropriate for what I'd like to support. I know that there are a LOT of emails and notices and such, and I get bogged down and don't have time to read them all in real time and only get to it every couple of weeks. It's like going to school when your friend is on winter break and you miss things. I guess I'm not saying do less, but idk, maybe like a mini bullet-point thing at the beginning of messages will help? Or like a "hey, this is time-sensitive stuff!" vs. "Hey, I just wanna chat with you all right now and it's totally cool if you just text me back when you can" type of deal. maybe that would help anyone in my similar position of email inundation!

Just keep being the open honest emotional BEAUTIFUL human being you are. Bring your questions and your fears to us it makes this a wonderful personal experience. I am getting more and more out of your work because of it and am loving you as a person more and more also. This is a great art experience one of or maybe the best in my 53 years.

I've just joined this group, so I may have missed something, but I am having a *devil* of a time getting my hands on any of your Things. The link you provided just above got me a 404 error, and when I tried to check out some digital downloads from the shopify store I got more errors. I submitted a service ticket to your webmaster, but now that I read this, is it maybe part of your site overhaul that the store isn't working right now? For what it's worth, I joined this being able to look back at the past year of Things and see how it has worked. Looks like it'll be grand! Keep up the good work.

So far so good. Love everything you do.

I'm a month late to the party -- I was in China when this town hall thing came up. Internet was spotty. I came to have a look here to find out why I got a second Machete poster, and really, I think the fact that I did says a lot about Amanda and this community. Amanda: you actually give a shit if we are happy; hence, you can, as someone already said "thing the fuck out of whatever you want". I would have been fine with the original Machete poster, and I'm delighted with the new one, as well. You keep being you, and I'm happy to support you :) *mwah*
