a few questions for today's town hall meeting... (Patreon)
Content
hey duders.
dashing this one off rather quickly on my way to the town hall meeting and meant to do this last night, but this will still be an excellent exercise. it's been over a year since the birth of this patreon and while it's going SWIMMINGLY....i need feedback, and i want to make sure everyone understands and feels kosher about everything, and so forth. i'm about to sit in a room with a few dozen of you and talk about all this in real time, but i'd also love to check in HERE in the comments before getting together with people to see if there are any concerns, thoughts, problems, ideas....so PLEASE, if you;re a lurker and you never ever comment - PLEASE DO SO ON THIS THREAD, even if it's just to say "shit is awesome, change nothing".
read this first, too, if you haven't. it'll kick off some thoughts.
....so most of what i've released so far has been fairly close to what i expected - some songs, some ALBUMS, some planned things, some surprises, some commercially successful stuff, some totally weirdo out--of-nowhere-WHAT (the naked statue book drive comes to mind) stuff that i NEVER would have done without the funding of the patreon. i think it's been pretty good.
i've learned a lot of things. i have done some things too quickly. i wish i hadn't thing'd that boston webcast, it felt a little too boring and repetitive having already done two webcasts in the months before. almost nobody complained, but i could feel the lack of enthusiasm. i always want everything to be thrilling. i supose not everything i do will be thrilling. some things will always be more thrilling than others. i have rushed through some projects and not been as deliberate as i like. i think that's okay, given how new this is, and i think the whole point of this patreon is that i can work a little more loosely than britney and taytay and madonna. i'm always a work in progress, and so is this.
that being said: I really want to hear from you guys how you think this is ALLLL going. is it what you expected? better? weirder? worse?
here's a question, a concrete one.
i brought thor & friends on this dad tour because i really wanted a back-up band, and i wanted my art family around me for company and support. it cost a lot to fly them all from austin, house them, etc etc...and i figured i'd offset those costs by doing an EXPERIMENT and locking us into our NYC nightclub for a day and trying to come up with a recording. i'm very proud of what we came up with so quickly, it's like a 20 minute poem and wander through sound, but it's certainly not a polished recording that we spent a week on. do i still thing it? you tell me.
one exciting NOTE: i'm working on a NEW WEBSITE (the old one is feeling very outdated). the team has considered Thing-ing the new website. weird. yes? no? it's expensive (the overhaul will probably cost $10k). hm.
but for now...i'm also making a AMANDAPALMER.NET/THINGS page for ALLL the patreon content, so that NEW PATRONS can access all the OLD stuff - that's one thing that's felt really stupidly missing.
and....questions...feelings....
i've Thinged songs.
i've Thinged albums.
is it okay to thing an album in two halves?
these are the Things that keep me up at night.
anyway - TALK TO ME. about anything patreon-related. i'm all ears today and in a very listening frame of mind. i'll take notes on the meeting and report bakc.
i love you guys....
see a lot of you soon
