in an attempt to motivate maine the other day, and michigan today, i posted spontaneous video-songs to facebook. HEY IT WORKED IN MAINE...maybe it'll work in michigan. (here's's today's dumb michigan song, from bed:

https://www.facebook.com/amandapalmer/videos/vb.6565888374/10153656703708375/?type=2&theater and here's jason webley's not-dumb michigan song: https://www.facebook.com/amandapalmer/posts/10153656814008375)

AND,,,,,HERE IS A LINK that's simply info about where to vote if you don't know how. SPREAD THE WORD, people: http://voteforbernie.org/

2. SURPRISE: i'm in AUSTIN visiting crazy uncle thor and doing a teeny appearance at benefit for the austin bat cave (a non-profit group dedicated to providing children and teenagers with opportunities to develop their creative and expository writing.!!! yes indeed!!!) tonight (tuesday.)

....it's a TINY PIZZA PARLOR so i'm not announcing this on social media...just you guys!

the lowdown: 7 pm at homeslice pizza on congress. i'll have a baby and be with thor, you can't miss us....say hi

:)

3. i wrote up a huge blog about the VANCOUVER #NINJATED SHOW!!!!! special guests included adam savage from mythbusters, jason webley, sarah kay, bill t jones in an improv performance with me and jherek and rhiannon from the caroline chocolate drops, ASTRONAUT CHRIS HADFIELD giving a teary goodbye to david bowie, THE NATIONAL KITE AND YOYO CHAMPIONS OF CANADA... and more.... and we raised ALMOST $17k for the greater vancouver food bank - so THANK YOU to anyone here who came or who donated via the webcast online. THERE'S TONS OF BEAUTIFUL PICTURES (including the one you see here taken from back of stage by maria popova, who also guested)....go look:

4. I AM PUTTING OUT a REAL-ASS SONG tomorrow, and i'm really happy with it and yeah. it's called "machete". i now have over 7,000 patrons here and this feels like the first, big, hefty, full-production song that i've made and released here. "thing about things" and "bigger on the inside" and "a mother's confession" are great in their own right, but this sucker sounds like something off "theatre is evil"...it's long, it's got strings, it's got ben folds on drums, it sounds like the herculean effort it was. i am really excited. which brings me to point three:

5. ....a thought: i write music. i actually do. that is what i do. sometimes i think people forget that because the other shit is so distracting.

here's a great little write-up i just got in the guardian, in their "cult heroes" department...

http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2016/mar/07/amanda-palmer-dresden-dolls-cult-heroes

it's a great write-up and it actually depressed me in a way, because i found myself liking it so much for a depressing reason: it's one of the few pieces of press about me lately that talks ABOUT THE SONGS. note, ironically enough, that the comments section devolves once again (three fucking years later) into people talking everything BUT the art and flinging back and forth shit about kickstarter and beer and hugs.

newsflash, sometimes even to me, because i get so caught up in my bullshit:

i write songs. that is who i am and what i do.

it still pains me that years later, all people can think to write about is...everything but the songs.

i write songs, i make art. that's how i like to define myself, if i have any control over the narrative.

without songs, no dresden dolls, without songs, no kickstarter, without songs, no shows, without songs, no gigs, without songs, no TED talk, without songs, no book, without songs, no patreon, no this, no here.

i am a fucking songwriter.

i want you to know this about me, in case you missed it.

tomorrow i am releasing a really good song that i'm really proud of.

and i'll tell you the whole story behind it tomorrow when i post, because i like doing that, and i think the story behind the song will strengthen the listen.

and please, if you want to help me defeat the fraud police and the real and imagined voices out there trying to make the conversation about my life and choices and business and shitty voice and hairy body and whatever else....just remember. the songs. the songs. like...it's the economy stupid. it's the songs, silly.

so get ready to share.

6. and, er, to distract you even further, here's an interview i did with parents.com about the release of "a mother's confession".

http://www.parents.com/baby/all-about-babies/parents-can-definitely-relate-to-amanda-palmers-new-song/

okay. sorry to barrage you with so much, but here we go.

tomorrow, help me share a song to the world.

we are the media, people. who'd have thunk it. let's do this shit.

7. bye

wait 8. MICHIGAN. just reminding you.

ok bye

xxx

By the way, I loved the fingers in the air drinking song at the end. "You know the rules! IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE LYRICS, SING THEM LOUDER." That is so me! Thank you. (Even tho I was at home on MC that day and drinking cough medicine instead of actual alcohol. But ultimately same difference.)

I will never understand why it is there are people whose literal hobby is hating you on the Internet. My conclusion is that it's not about you, it's about them and about the things that they've decided you Stand For In Their Minds and so of course it isn't about the music for them or anything individual about you as either person or artist. Which bugs the shit out of me, but it's useless to try to argue with them because you can't disprove someone's delusion.

I look forward to the new song! And that picture is breathtaking!

Your music is what got my attention in the first place and it's why I'm here. Thank you for so many amazing songs. Really looking forward to the new one! :-)

I love your music, dude. I am going through this slightly life changing period right now, like, I'm trying to teach myself that I can do things for me, and not do things to keep everyone happy (I'm painfully nice to everyone, and I had to be the mediator between two divorced parents since I was little, etc. etc.) and I just found myself humming that lyric from "Do You Swear To Tell The Truth, The Whole Truth, And Nothing But The Whole Truth So Help My Black Ass" (or "The Truth" haha) where you sing, "And I've already spent to much time... Doing things I didn't want to. So if I just want to sit down and drink wine, you can bet your black ass that I'm going to." (Sorry if I messed up the lyrics.) and I was just like, "oh yeah, fuck, Amanda's been through this just like me. It's kind of going to be okay." And so thanks for that. Also, I know you didn't write it, but your cover of Creep makes me cry and I rarely cry. It's a super special song for me. (Also, thanks for the footnotes in your last song, because I love your music and I love footnotes, and this is combining two great loves.) P.S. If you ever worry that people are thinking of you as a writer or a ted talker or anything else, remember that 7,000 people are paying to hear your music and to watch you perform your songs. you're that good.

So happy to finally be a part of this community - can't believe it took me so long <3

Janet in Georgia

Always has been about the songs. Ever since I lived in Manchester NH back in 2002 I think it was. Followed your music, been to MANY shows. Will keep following and supporting as long as I can. It is a privilege to be able to help support all the things and get new songs. I can't wait!! P.S. if you're ever in the Atlanta area and need an upright bassist, my 15 year old son is AMAZING. (He also plays guitar, drums) thought I'd throw that out there!! Love.

Machete is brilliant. I found out about you through Kickstarter. Pledged and got theater is evil. I liked it, but I wasn't quite there yet. You introduced me to Neil Gaimans writing (which in my humble estimation is worth every cent I've ever given or will give you) for which I will be eternally grateful. I followed all through the editing of Art of Asking and all the struggles. I realized what I really liked is the way you communicated everything. It made me feel a part of something. Something I'd never felt in 55 years. along the way I became a patreon and just followed along. Tried to comment but couldn't say it. You made a pitch for Geeta and I immediately pledged, because I could, and because I love writing. And then I heard Machete. I finally get it. its beautiful. I always knew you were an artist and not just a performer (NY Public Library? Disco Pregnancy? ALL PURE ART.) I fell in love with your songwriting today. I couldn't be happier and more sad. Happier because I love the song. Sad because I'm aware of how much Anthony meant to you. Thank you. you've made an old guy feel special.

I first found out about you through your music, and that is what I fell in love with. To me your songs meant a whole lot, they lifted me through some pretty dark times, and carried me through the better ones. Your music is important and beautiful, and through everything I will always love it. Later, after I loved the music, I found out about you, the Person, and now I can safely say I love you the Person, too. I am so happy to hear about all the music you're doing, and it warms my heart to know I can help with the creation in some small way. Also, YOU SHOULD HAVE A SHOW IN MINNEAPOLIIIISSSS. You're always having them so far away from me, so I can never go to them! :P
