morning loves

first .... i wanted to thank you all for the responses to my “what about posting in covid” post yesterday.

the comments are incredible and i’m slowly going through them all. between all the platforms there’s nearly 2,000 of them.

and from the reading i’ve done so far, it seems like i should go back to making art and broadcasting it, because that’s what i’m best at and what people are craving. maybe when i get back from auckland (i got here yesterday) i’ll add some more art. move the piano and ukulele outside and just start streaming from the stream. the birds and the music and occasionally ash singing to people all over the world about butts. that seems to be what the doctor is ordering.

art. more art from the heart.

i am not surprised, i guess.

it’s funny how i forget the basics so fast.

i’ll write more next week when i get a chance to read every last comment. there’s a lot to unpack.

on theme....this heart, this delicate pounding thing in your chest right here. it hurts and is hard to use.

this weeks podcast (the deep-dive into empathy with jamil zaki of standford university and author of “the war for kindness”) feels like the right thing at the right time.

if you want to challenge your heart and brain to be a little kinder (especially to yourself), and even hear some science behind it ... it’s good. one of the biggest takeaways for me was thinking of empathy like a muscle.

jamil speaks of his parents divorce being like an “empathy gun”, where he learned to train those muscles. i suppose he also could have looked at it like an unfair prison, where things he needed were withheld from him, and fuck the world. it’s all relative isn’t it.

i’m about to get on the net with him and do the follow-up live-chat and Q&A with him, and i have a feeling this is gonna be a deep and hard one. you’ll basically be listening to me getting a free therapy session from a world-renowned psychologist.

come on in. it starts at 4:30pm nyc time (nov 19th - that’s 10:30am on the 20th for me here in NZST).

make sure you’re logged into the patreon to tune in, join the chat with each other and start leaving questions for me and jamil:

the podcast itself, if you missed it, is here:

see you all soon.

I'll miss the posts about your path in NZ. But your audience has spoken. -Len

I’m surprised but okay. Not the first time I don’t represent the majority. ;) This photo...Ash taking over the family business of showing breasts or is he pointing to his heart? XOXO

I'll miss the NZ posts, too; but I'm with you on this Len and with everyone who needs some other kind of positivity to thrive.

I love art. I love your art. I will enjoy (as I have enjoyed) the art that you produce. I also love life with all of its possibilities, and I loved seeing that life was going on in NZ, that Ash walked to school, and all of the other little glimpses that you're provided over the past months. Why do people insist that things must be either/or when life absolutely consists of both/and?

I think I have developed some hard-core compassion fatigue... doing my best to get over it. You always help.

Listening to the replay of the live cast and loving the discussion. Just found this nifty description of New Zealand’s method that dropped the number of cases. Oh, and I don’t think that’s a pic of Ash. I could be totally wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7436486/

So many nerves hit, in a good way. Will need to listen again to absorb it all. Love and gratitude to you and Jamil, Amanda.<3

Amanda, my dad and I really enjoyed your live event last Friday. I wanted to tell you, that I thought it was really generous of you to bring in a camera crew and share that experience with the world. We will continue to support and enjoy your work from afar. Love you! ❤️

I don't think it's Ash... She's tucking her boobs on the sides.
