dear ones -

greetings from auckland. i just went and cried on national television (go see tonight's episode of the project). now i'm at a friend's house about to watch jacinda's debate (with judith collins from the national party) and then i'm going to take a bath and collapse. all in a day's work.

and also this. after many, many delays....it is IMMINENT.

first: LISTEN TO THIS, please. you'll be proud.

this trailer is up wherever you get your podcasts.

i'm sharing the soundcloud since you can listen without logging in, but you can listen to the trailer on spotify, apple podcasts etc....here's a list of direct links to your choice of media players: https://linktr.ee/AskingEverything

and here we go.

"the art of asking everything", my new podcast, long in the making, is starting up THIS TUESDAY, SEPT 29th, with my first conversation guest elizabeth lesser, bestselling author of "Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow". bonus:  her new book, "Cassandra Speaks: When Women Are the Storytellers, the Human Story Changes" is out this week.

the best news: as patrons, EVERY THURSDAY (or friday morning if you're in aotearoa like me...) you can join me for a more intimate live-stream Q&A/conversation with every guest. if the guest isn't available for some reason, i will still be doing a follow-up chat about the themes and content of the podcast for you all. so get ready for a whole lotta webcasting. i've missed talking with you. it's been a lot lately, as you know.

after i wrote “the art of asking”, i thought constantly about doing a podcast. something always got in the way. finally, last year, i started booking guests, and building a podcast that i thought would launch in the fall of 2019.

after delaying the launch of this podcast for almost an entire year, it feels like both good and bad timing. really? does the world need another fucking podcast right now?

i don’t know. but i’m doing it.

with everything that’s going on (covid! the election! fires! death! fear! loathing! collapse!) and with many of us being trapped in situations outside of our control on so many levels, i do feel the need for deep, unbridled, honest conversation more than ever.

this podcast is a series of real-ass, candid conversations about life, heart, art, and pain; beautifully and painstakingly produced with introductions, music, and transcripts. the team has worked VERY hard on making these recordings sound like gold.

i have done over 20 interviews over the past year....with some of the greatest brains and talent on the planet.

i skip the small talk. you gotta. the world is on fire.

how we deal with matters of the head and heart is so critical right now. how we keep our souls and relationships together. how we work. how we love. how we cope with death. how we detach from abusive and toxic relationships. how we heal. how we SURVIVE.

it's worth noting that so far, all of these conversations were recorded pre-covid. that means there is A LOT to add to these conversations, and that's why i've added the live follow-up chat. and it's a way for you all to be immediately included in the conversation. WHAT NOW? i like that.

......

another note to all of you: EACH PODCAST EPISODE, EVERY WEEK, will be "thinged" - meaning you'll be charged. so i warn you to please, especially if you are at a higher pledge level, to CAP YOUR PLEDGE if you are on a budget. it may be that my patreon shoots up to 5+ things a month.

......

i delayed the release of this launch SIX TIMES. SIX!!!!

it was going to launch last november, but things got very busy and i was exhausted by touring.

so we pushed it to december. the guardian kerfuffle ate my life. we pushed it to the australian tour. the bushfires happened.

so we pushed it to may, which seems SO CONSERVATIVE AT THE TIME. i was going to be HOME, rested, and happy. i was going to have cleaned out my desk, be making soup in the kitchen with my child in my nice home with my nice life and my nice friends in my nice country and .... well, we know what happened to all that. covid happened.

so we pushed it to july. in april i became a single parent and had to move house. we pushed it to august.

everyone on my team was sad and exhausted and overwhelmed, especially me.

so we pushed it again. to early september.

we didn't have it all together. i was still flailing, we all were.

so then we pushed it to late september.

AND NOW, BY THE GRACE OF GOD, it's happening.

........

so, let's DO THIS, PEOPLE.

help me in this new chapter of my career.

what to do right now? while you are waiting with bated breath to listen to this mofo to actually go live on the 29th with the first episode?

well, first check out the audio trailer linked above.....which is also available wherever you get your podcasts.

and, now, watch the beautiful little hand-animated video trailer (written by me, and assembled by artists andrew nelson and dana schechter).

we made it to share around the internet.

here it is on youtube:

i would really love it if you'd share it with the world. please rate, review and subscribe on whichever feed you prefer, so that more people can discover and listen. i need your help with that.

the organic reach to your friends and family is what i need to get the word out about this podcast, NOW. i'll try not to bug you with too many posts. you know where i am on twitter, instagram, and facebook. a lot of that stuff will be spilling out over there.

over the next few days we're going to be rolling out all sorts of things...like beautifully designed images of the guests, and so on.

each episode will have a dedicated post from me here on patreon with links to listen, backstories about the podcast recording, info about the guests, photos, transcripts  (YAY!!!) and show notes for each episode, and whenever possible, exclusive goodies to share with patrons only.

i will mention it again and again: this podcast is COMMERCIAL FREE thanks to your support. this is so important.

so many podcasts rely on ads, corporate partnerships, and that kind of crap in order to exist and have high production. mine will not be like that.

this happened - and will be able to keep happening, because of THIS. THIS PATREON. YOU. thank you.

here's what to expect this first season....

Anybody else was overcharged? I capped my pledge to 1 item a month since July, but this month I was charged 3 items. Well, at least the money went to Af'P ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

TOTALLY UNRELATED! Amanda, if you haven't run into Montaigne yet, I think you would love her and should watch her Eurovision entry, she's Australian and has a gap tooth and a unibrow and dances like she means it.
