hallo loves.

greetings from auckland. i’ll be reading & responding to comments for the next half hour or so and then i’m gonna knock off and call it a hard days night.

in lovely kiwi live-news, my first show in wellington - sat. aug 29th - sold out so fast that we added a second one, same venue (st. peter’s) on fri. august 28th, and you can get tickets starting NOW. here: http://amandapalmer.net/shows/

i’m here for a day of press...i flew up from hawkes bay, it’s about a 30 minute flight, and here is the plane view. i mean. this country is fucking beautiful. it’s breathtakingly beautiful.

i just interviewed with jesse mulligan on RNZ, it was a very intense 35-minute chat - jesse was a really good listener and asked - about all things amanda-and-aotearoa-new-zealand and you can listen to it here, it’s archived. i also played “in my mind”. for everyone who weighed in, you were right. and we also played the recording of “drowning in the sound“....

ok, link, go listen:

https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/afternoons/audio/2018757083/bookmarks-amanda-palmer

here’s jesse. he makes my ukulele look very small.

i also did a long interview for the new zealand herald in my publicist‘s office. she was wonderful all day, her name is lucy mcrae, and she took this photo.

this above piece will run online and in print in a few weeks and i have a feeling it will be very. very good. i loved the journalist.

......

i am back at “work“.

......

still, it all feels wrong and strange.  it’s been a weird week. going “back to work“ seems strange and out of place on this covid world even though things here are so-called normal.

so many people in my life are suffering the mid- and long-term effects of covid-exhaustion. i can hear it in every phone call i make back to the states. people are fucking over it all. i am worried about my country. my friends. everything. it all feels so fragile.

....

back at work - i’m logjammed but surviving.  i’ve been scrambling to get a few things out the door and as much as i hate to admit it, the end of the month is coming like a freight train and is going to sort of force me to put out two things really quickly in a row when they would probably best be spread out over the course of a few days or weeks. i don’t miss the punishing randomness of a major-label release schedule, but there’s still an internal manufactured release schedule here with the monthly patreon, and it’s worth thinking about how to fix someday.  already took advantage of your understanding and good graces and charged for a song thats still in the works and hasn’t come out publicly yet (”it’s a fire”). there’s a great freedom to all of this, coupled with a kind of sloppy randomness, and, well, all i can do is be super fucking honest and address it.

at the same time i know how goddamn supportive you all are and how much birth you’re all willing to give this very sometimes-foundering ship. my whole team has been at half-mast for quite sometime now because of many reasons, personal and covid-wise. the fact that i get to run a team of human beings with real human being problems and human being time-lags, and not a company of robots, is exactly why i love the way we do things.

anyway...i love you all and thank you.

if all goes well you’re going to get TWO things in the next 72 hours or so. a song, and the digital artbook.

IF all goes well. :)

pray that it does.

......

meanwhile, this text cheered me up so fucking much i figured i would send it to you to cheer you.

it‘s a screencap of a text that jherek bischoff sent me from the cellist he hired to play on the new song that i recorded in auckland (working title: “rosheen”, but i think it’s going to change). with luck this track will be out in august or september. it’s so good.

this is why i make music. to get texts like this. this is why.

i love all of you.

so much.

xx

p.s. especially for my german patrons, so you know we are paying attention to your media... i posted this nytimes article to twitter earlier today. excellent piece about trump, germany’s new term “the american catastrophe”, and non-learning from history. as a german studies major who focused on weimar and the holocaust, i nod my head again and again:

Kia ora Amanda! It still feels so bizarre that you're here in Aotearoa! I've tweeted this a couple times, and apologies if you've already seen them, but, after your tweet about Richard O'Brien today, I just wanted to share my hope that you'll get to visit the Riff Raff statue in my home (and current) town of Kirikiriroa/Hamilton. If you do stop by, I'd love to treat you and Ash et. al. to a no-obligation coffee and snack. If you're interested in the statue, you can learn more about it at http://riffraffstatue.org and if you'd like a coffee, please click me a message on Twitter at @x_chemicalism_x. Hope you have a wonderful day and you and your loved ones are healthy and happy. XOX

Great update thanks. Heard the interview with Jesse live. He's so good. It was a great listen. Got my ticket for the show at the opera house in Hastings. I'm in Napier. Can't wait to see the place now that it's been revamped - will be even better with you in it.

Beautiful interview. In my mind made me cry again. I was listening here, across the planet, in Massachusetts. God, I hope we make some drastic and much needed changes in November... the orange man in charge is touting good news, that parts of the US are coronavirus free as our numbers approach 4.5 million cases. I guess he thinks he can just tell lies and that will make it all go away and convince his delusional followers that he's the big hero.... ugh. Our country has become a very scary and unsafe place. But, It's a really good thing to have you in a place where you can give us some glimmer of hope by sharing what life is like in other places where government has done well, by and for the people. It gives me some hope. Love to you and Ash

I would love it if you kept the title as Rosheen, not that it is my call :)

O Amanda! Thanks for posting. The scenario of the dictator saving the country indeed comes closer by the day. No "forces" seem bright enough to stop that rollercoaster. Big sign on the wall is the brutal force by federal troups sent in by the more and more violent acting president dictator. This was a test to see if anyone could go against his law and order enforcement. And he will have these acts speeding up now he knows there is no way he will win the election. I won't go on. Just enough to stimulate young people to register for voting and go vote as you do so well in every post. This post is important to be read by every American. The Germans learned from their history. The German CDU compares most to the general conservative politics, but it learned to respect the democracy and CQ it's people.

I love the way serendipity and discovery work in art...I support 8 artists and makers on Patreon. I go to check out the radio interview. I find that one of the tracks you chose is Rhiannon Giddens. Who is...one of the other artists I support on Patreon! Just feeds my conviction that if I keep following and supporting brilliant people, I'll get to discover every brilliant person on the planet before I turn my toes up :D
