hallo loves!

greetings from hastings, aotearoa.

in good news, i put on my writing hat and, after much mind-composting, i strapped myself to a chair for an entire day and wrote the NEW introduction to the digital version of the "there will be no intermission" photo/art book, which, if all goes well, will be delivered to your hot little inboxes at the end of the month. writing felt good. i'd forgotten i'm good at it.

you're also in for a treat...i'm going to finally release a song that's been sitting on the burner for some months in a few days. it's CATCH UP TIME.

meanwhile....i'm heading to auckland tomorrow to do a little bit of press to talk about the two upcoming shows i've got here in your fine land. the first one in wellington, at st. peter's on august 29th, is almost sold out and we're thinking of adding a second show, but if you want to be guaranteed a seat, get a ticket. and the second one in hawek's bay at the opera house in hastings is selling fast. all the tickets are now on sale to the public here: https://amandapalmer.net/shows/

i'm going to do an interview for the New Zealand Herald, for a long-form piece that'll run sometime in the next few weeks, and i'm going to do a live interview on RNZ (radio new zealand, the equivalent of NPR or the BBC) on wednesday afternoon for a show called "bookmarks", from 2:25-3pm. set your alarms and tune in, broadcast is also streamed live here if you're not local: https://www.rnz.co.nz/

i'm going to talk about influences, and i'm going to provide them a list of stuff to discuss and play, and i also get to open the show with ONE SONG of my own to show them who i am, what i do, what i've got.

this is always so HARD. i've written SO MANY SONGS. it could be anything by me solo, or a dolls song....fuck. help.

drowning in the sound? the vegemite song? voicemail for jill? the bed song? the ride is probably too long, or i'd pick that. it's radio. mrs. o? the ukulele anthem? in my mind? coin-operated boy?

it's here, it's now, we're in this place. help me. if you see someone you agree with, please upvote.  don't forget that this is going out to hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom have never heard of me (and may never hear of me after this.

thanks, friends.

i have to get them my answer by tomorrow.

xx

p.s. here's a nice picture of ash sitting on the bar of my local, the common room. we went there for the pinball - they have a game of thromes pinball AND a ghostbusters pinball. he's getting really surprisingly good.

I'm dating a kiwi (a beautiful lovely exciting circus pakeha kiwi) and I introduced him to your music because we are both going to see you on the 29th. He listened to ALL your albums and likes Drowning in the sound and Bad wine and lemmon cake. And Edward ka-spel's velvet voice.

I can’t see anyone else suggest it but this fits the bill in my mind best: DO YOU SWEAR TO TELL THE TRUTH THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH SO HELP ... This is you in a single song.

Well done for getting that intro written and good luck for the RNZ interview....looking forward to hearing which song you chose.....and seeing you in Wellington!!

Excellent show....loved the combo of getting both songs in there and i think you sounded just delicious in that what you talked about made your soul shine through, it will be a great intro for people. Go you!! Now my question is do I come to the Friday Wellington show as well as Saturday?!!! ....probably!

A small thing, but a thing. In Aotearoa - and especially in Māori culture - it's considered rude to sit on tables/bars/kitchen benches. Essentially anywhere you serve or prepare food. Ash is kiiiiinda exempt in that tamariki often don't know better yet, and I assume the bartenders were okay with your doing this in what is basically their home. I'm hesitant to a) tell you how to raise your kid, or b) speak on behalf of Māori, but you've been pretty aware and respectful of living within another cultural space while you've been here, so I figured I would mention this. It's refreshing and rad to see international artists referring to NZ as Aotearoa, and I'm grateful for the mahi.
