{patrons-only!)

hallo loves.

greetings from a coffeeshop in richmond. i fucking love all of you. i posted this yesterday on instragram.....i took this lying down in my rehearsal space. upside down because that's how i'm doing at the moment.

we work hard all our lives to shed our fears and insecurities. we learn how to love ourselves. it takes decades and is a constant process.

do not let other people’s terror in the face of your self-confidence terrorize or throw you off course.

you’re doing okay. really. if i can do this, so can you, sweetie.

and i love you.

.....

it's true.

okay....first of all, the entire two-hour webcast from yesterday is up as an archive. we had a good time. anyone on patreon can watch it now, the permissions are re-set. everything is locked in instant replay along with the comment stream.

it's here: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/lo62svc9

and.....here's some stills from hayley, who spent almost the entire two hours of the cast on the line with me, because there was a lot to cover and she's a great wing-womyn. SHE IS ON HER WAY TO OZ TOMORROW (yay!!!) and michael is over here now, too, tooling around new zealand and coming over to melbourne next week. the whole team will be in town....

and ash and neil showed up. there was cryin. not pictured.

about 100 patrons showed up to chat and muse, which is just about the right size for a webcast....but i'll try to do a full-throttle all-patron webcast sometime soon. i ain't done one since the record came out.....

..........

for NOW: LAST REQUEST TIME!!!:

i'm ABOUT TO HEAD INTO THE REHEARSAL STUDIO in melbourne for day two of getting myself ready to record for the first time in a while.

this recording, which was supposed to be ONE SONG, has expanded. enough that i think we can call it a benefit EP. so let's call it that. the bushfire EP. here we go.

i’m going to start with the important one…the main event; the new song i wrote in tasmania. it doesn’t have a title yet but it clocks in at around 10 minutes and it’s a weirdo one, and it's been stuck in my head, so i know it's working.

then i’ll move onto two midnight oil songs i wanna cover: "beds are burning" and "truganini".

if i have time, i can record one more.

three songs isn't QUITE an EP.

but FOUR? especially if one is TEN MINUTES??

THAT'S AN EP.

so let's do it. we can do this. can we do this?

yes.

any ideas? it's gotta be related to the theme.

i'd love to hear from the australians esp on this one....

something australian or bushfire-related.

climate-related.

burning-related.

emotional and political.

and not too hard to cover.

and no more midnight oil.

maybe something newer?

archie roach's "took the children" away comes to mind (oof, i only just discovered it), but it's not quite right. i've covered paul kelly to death but i could go in for another paul kelly because they're damn easy to play. but maybe .... something not by a white guy?

i'm wide open and in the studio for two more hours.

hit me, hit me, hit me with ideas. i'm a-readin!!!!

and: please note that the song has gotta be pretty easy to learn.

youtube/bandcamp links, too, if you got em.

everything's possible.

hit me with ideas.

here we goooo.

this one is gonna come out FAST.

hold tight, too, for a surprise quick-release thing i'm gonna pop out at the end of the month. money from that is going to go towards the bushfire efforts as well.

(Not sure where my comment went. Sorry if this is a double post) Amanda, PLEASE do not record 'Beds Are Burning' as a bushfire benefit. It is not a song about bushfires - it's a song about the mistreatment of Indigenous Australians. You posted about Invasion Day a few days ago, so I know this is an issue that you care about. By recording the song and linking it to bushfires, you water down its meaning. Please look into the history of the song and its use as an anthem during the Reconciliation protests. And please do not record the song.

Obvious one, really, but We Didn't Start the Fire would be cool, you could add a new verse to cover the 30 years since.

Anything from the (Australian and) aptly named BUSHFIRE by THE BUSHWACKERS BAND. I grew up with this album on vinyl. My favourite was always "Wild Horses." But "Hard Luck Stories" and "Fannie Bay" are also great. https://open.spotify.com/album/7qNvA76klp1ClogWdoFzYJ

My first thought is something by AC/DC. Maybe a bittersweet version of Highway to Hell to relate to the detriment but the embracement of it to help, like fuck it I’m gonna do my best - nobody’s gonna hold me down. Nothings gonna hold Australia down. My friends are gonna be there too - all the people who have come together to help.

HideyHo-it's unlikely you'll see this and it's possible it's too late, nevertheless here is a decent article about political music in Australia. It's recent(ish) and give giod examples of contemporary, local stuff that could do with a listen. I think anything of Archie's holds a special place that should maybe be best left untouched. Keep fighting the best way you know how ❤ TASH.

Anything by Kev Carmody....if you dont know him, please give him a listen. Especially 'this land is mine' or 'thou shalt not steal'. Oh, and he co-wrote 'from little things big things grow' with paul kelly
