hallo loves.
i just read a website review of the dublin show, which was one of the best of the tour. the journalist was like: "uhhh i don't get it".
i just tweeted this.
i fucking love you all.
not everybody has to get you.
not everybody has to get me.
got me?
you got me.
.........
i just saw the typo in my tweet. fuck it. that's why you love me.
............
BEFORE I FORGET, I FORGOT!!!!
here is the patron photo from Cardiff (by Michael Dunaway)! oops.
i will say this unfiltered: i fucking SMASHED it smashed it in dublin last night, making up for a very wobbly cork gig.
it was everything i hoped it would be...except for the fact that instead of preparing myself for the show (i was so excited to actually be able to do that after our debacle in cork)...i wound up running up against the same problem with the venue.
they wouldn't let our two organizations, Disabled Women Ireland and Abortion Campaign Ireland, set up in the lobby. so i had to have a meeting with three very grumpy old men about the exact terms of conditions and rules, and then we decided the only way to solve the problem was to let them talk on stage and just literally TALK to people in the lobby (that was...allowed!!) without handing out any literature. motherfucker. TALKING TO PEOPLE IS THE NEW BLACK.
and WHAT THE FUCK IRELAND.
i wish i'd filmed that meeting with the venue guys. they were so....i don't know, guys. they were so absent.
the show was just phenomenal. one of the best audiences of the entire year. thank you, thank you, thank you for coming and being so soft and loud and wonderful and loving.
greetings from roisin ingle's beautiful kitchen. some of the crew stayed here last night and roisin not only gave us her beds, but her wonderful brother brian played us some nick cave and bob dylan songs on his guitar and made us mexcian food. i want every gig in the world to end that way.
................
backing up a few hours...here's some great gabrielle photos: practiced shintaido with david in a little theatre/dance space around the corner from the venue in cork (all photos by gaby from here)....
here is a little video of the class, if you wanna see something weird and fun: https://youtu.be/S9f9lnKLEaQ
because of the fuss and muss about the fact that we couldn't have Abortion Rights set up tables in the lobby of the venue because it is 'apolitical' ... i played outside the theatre to a lovely crowd of cork peoples:
we got a photo....together....
(if i haven't mentioned it yet....YES, jack and gaby, your foreign tour correspondents, are back on tour!). here's jack by night:
the "Apolitical Lobby Party" we held was a success but it meant that the show had to be cut short to allow time for the Lobby Party to....exist.
people put on little ampersand stickers that alex had made....this signaled that you were either willing to talk, or listen.
the whole crew ran around the lobby connecting strangers, taking them to tables, and giving them tables with candles and drinks....
here are some gorgeous portraits gaby took of the audience:
the show in cork:
................
in dublin it was COLD and RAINING and we'd only announced the shintaido meeting spot a few hours before, BUT TWO BRAVE PEOPLE CAME so we fucking did it!!!
......
dublin ukuelele dept....we accidentally left the ukulele on the tour bus across town, so my hero cal loaned me theirs so i could play "in my mind" and "bigger on the inside". it was a sponge bob ukulele and did the trick quite nicely.
you'd think i'd shot their children, indeed.
so yeah, instead of prepping for the show...i wandered the lobby and introduced the Abortion Rights Campaign and Disabled Women Ireland to the lobby-folk.
VOICE as SIGN.
VOICE is the new SIGN.
everybody....at the national concert hall:
and last but not least....
after the hall cleared out
patron photo from last night in dublin!
if you're coming to any of the upcoming shows, STICK AROUND THE END OF THE NIGHT!!! we will ALWAYS TAKE A PHOTO! i love this one.
...........
okay

LIMERICK SHINTAIDO INFO!!!!
we are pretty sure we can find a space near the venue. worst case, we'll do it outside, so if it's nippy, bring rain gear and we will do a short practice.
meet us OUTSIDE THE VENUE (university hall) at 4:15pm on sunday!!! please be ON TIME because we will likely duck into another part of the venue.
if you happen to have connections to the university and can get us into a space at the sports complex/dance studio/large room, etc, email shintaido@dfranklin.org and let him know whats what!
