good morning loves......

before i dig in to the afternoon work of getting ready the State of All Things which you'll get later today, here's a little sunday morning voice-ramble to keep you company. it's about 13 minutes. i talk about my voice (that actual physical thing) and i ask you to weigh in on a question about Thinging a certain Poem and whether it's a good idea or not.

if you don't want to listen to the voiceramble, here's the upshot: i wrote a long poem for a charity event in boston...it's a meta poem, a poem sort of about "poem for dzhokar", the poem i got so much shit for in the wake of the boston bombing, and the way i feel about it a few years on. it's a poem about empathy (surprise).

i'm incredibly proud of the new poem....i spent a fuck ton of time on it, neil helped me to edit it, and i know it's good, and i know i want to publish it here on patreon and here only, i'm not sure whether Thinging it, even though i spent a good chunk of my life writing it, is a good look, even if we give most of the money to charity. you say. it's your money. i'm also afraid people will give me shit for it, though i'm hoping they won't. i never know with people.

also, i love the idea of taking WALKS now that it isn't ballz kold and recording these little musings for you. it's a nice ritual....and it takes me to the end of the driveway and back in about 15 minutes. CARDIO and BLOGGING all the kardashians are doing it.

comments about whatever, please, i'm reading and responding today.

i love you.

I say, yes, thing it. I can't speak for others, but part of the reason I became part of your patreon community is because you express the true things, the difficult things, the raw things, the human things, the vulnerable compassionate things. I haven't heard the poem, but it sounds like it's a perfect example of why Patreon has helped you embrace your art - we're there to support you, especially when your "thing" might make waves and get you in trouble.

I'm late to the weighing in (been sick for basically a month because I wasn't eating well at all), but if you (Amanda) are still reading, I say thing the poem if you make the $ partially/mostly/completely go toward a charity. That would be a beautiful, powerful action that I am proud to support as a patron. Thinging the poem without doing a donation is trickier. While we on the inside may understand how the money (fucking money) is working here, within this soulless capitalist system, I think many on the outside won't understand. Though that in itself shouldn't stop you, I say, "Why NOT give the proceeds to charity? What of the message is lost if the proceeds go to charity?" That's the big question for me. I see some finer aspects that may be lost, but larger aspects to be gained. Much love. Looking forward to crying with my mother and brother at the Denver show. We'll see you soon.
