GREETINGS FROM ICELAND!

i've been here 24 hours and so far i have bathed in thermal baths, gone on a motorcyle ride, done a three hour hike up and down a mountain, drunk many good icelandic coffees in three different icelandic coffeeshops, met a ton of beautiful local people,  hidden in a lesbian castle reading some john steinbeck pilfered off the shelf, played some ukulele on a couch, been to two different bars and planned a gig, podcast and photoshoot.

I DO NOT FUCK AROUND WHEN I AM ON VACATION.

mostly i've been following around my large-hearted friend-host, the photographer and writer gabrielle motola, and touching base with my songwriting hero, john grant, who's house i'm crashing at.

here's some photos from yesterday....

AND...............

one thing led to another and last night in a pub covered with fuzzy arctic wall-hangings, i met an irish musician and engineer named colm who works in a venue called IÐNÓ and they are PSYCHED TO HOST A NINJA GIG!!! the place has two key elements, my friends: a BAR and a GRAND PIANO!

let's do this.

i've also invited every musician i've met since landing here yesterday....don't underestimate me, bitches.....i work fast, including this beautiful composer/sound artist from brooklyn named grey gerston (go download some mp3s here care of brooklyn vegan: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/may-the-stone-c/)

and an incredible local musician named jófríður ákadóttir aka JFDR:

if you're not in iceland...which is totally possible?...go check out this gorgeous video for "white sun":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eikLsHzfpL4

very boards of canada/bjork-y, you'll like her.

i took a photo of her making some kombucha this morning in her house...

she's a kombucha vermeer.

......

so i now have reason to believe this ninja gig is gonna be one for the books.

here's the outside of the venue:

and the inside:

and more about the venue if you wanna go peek:

........

we have about 24 hours to pull it together. if you're in iceland SPREAD THE WORD PLEASE! the venue made a facebook event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1067046030121290 ...please spread that around too if you're on fucking facebook (don't get me started about facebook today, i've just about had it with their algorithmic punishings but it's made me that much gladder i have patreon and my goddam email list, those fuckers).

the DETAILS!

the gig starts at 7 pm! be on time! it only fits 200 PEOPLE and space will fill quickly. i imagine things will go until 9 pm or later.. who knows...

address:

3, Vonarstræti, 101 Reykjavík

THE GIG IS FREEEEEEEE. and ALL AGES.

i asked around for a good cause and found one:

i will pass the hat for a charity towards the end of the gig: all the money collected will go to www.stigamot.is, a local iceland outfit that offers "Free individual counseling for survivors of rape, sexual molestation, sexual harassment, pornographic exploitation and prostitution. Service is for women and men. Services for children are offered by Children’s Protective Services (Barnahús)."

hopefully there will be photos and videos, open media policy as usual.

SEE YOU THERE MY DEARS

You're crashing at Johns house?! PLEASE give my fantasy husband the biggest hug ever and tell him that a little bearded weirdo from Scotland loves him very much and may be travelling to Copenhagen in November to see him again. I love that man so much! :-D

This is lovely! I'm so glad you're enjoying it here! (and getting so much stuff done while you're at it!) And that you found this venue, it is sort of ideal.... I've performed there three times myself (just with the school opera) so am very fond of it. It's beautiful xx
