(strictly patron-only post)

Dearly Beloved....

if you don't wanna read a long post, here's the VERY short version.

i've uploaded my entire show from the brighton festival in may.

it is the rough draft of my world tour next year, as yet unnamed. it's super fucking emotional, grab a tissue, thanks for paying for it, give me feedback and here's the link.

for patrons only, in four parts:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdCjn28n1Ao82Lj_I1ho8qSwcX-zBUduz

the long version:

hello and i love you.

an apology on a few fronts:

i posted on friday morning that i was jussst about to Thing A Thing and then the Thing did not get Thinged...and i was going to post a "hang on!" but just decided you'd forgive me for the blueballs.

as it happened, this Thing (a live video i'm about to share with you all) got incorrectly uploaded to youtube on friday and there were other technical glitches...and delay delay delaaaaay.

and this one isn't really an apology, more like a thing i get nevous about so i'll just say it:

i've been trying REALLY hard to avoid thing-ing two things too close in a row, because, you know, unspoken unwritten rules of "internet engagement" and "fatigue". and also just, polite. spreading things out seems considerate to give you a chance to digest Things one at a time.

and since i always post the State of Althings at the end of the month (usually on the last day), this means that i'm going to be thinging two Things literally back-to-back...today and tomorrow.

whatever? whatever. all i have to say is: i'm not a record label, or a television station. sometimes jams happen and then you get Two Things in a row and all i gotta say is: thank god there's nothing or nobody here to actually punish me. that's why i do this shit this way, got me?

anyway.

..............................

tomorrow on the late side i'll send you more of a life & work & art & progress update in the form of the State of Alllllthings.

and now on to the Thing Itself.

DRUM. ROLL......

you may or may not have been there, but it was epic. this past may i played the brighton dome, a gorgeous historic 1k+ capacity theater, as part of the glorious brighton festival in the uk:

each year the festival has someone contribute as "guest director" to help curate the festival. this year's guest director was david shrigley....who makes art that looks like this:

brighton fest (which is about an hour south of london, on the southern coast of england) rolls merrily along for about a month and throws concerts, workshops, films, dance performances, poetry, comedy and so much more as part of the shebang.....

i stopped in at the festival as a key date in the UK/Ireland tour i did in may. many of you were there (i know because i met you :)

....and i knew i wanted to record at least one of these shows for posterity, since this was my first big solo piano tour ever, really.

so i chose to record my shows in brighton & bath because they were great big beautiful theaters with amazing sound systems and both dates were not too early in the tour, and not too late, goldilocks tour time. bath was good, but brighton kicked bath's ass (sorry bath).

so here you go. it's finally READY FER YEW TO ENJOY.

a reminder/note: this recording is for patrons only.

i would love feedback. it's the very first draft of the tour that i'm going to be bringing on the road in 2019 to tens thousands of people. i want it to be really...good.

and it includes the opening set from andrew o'neill...if you want to watch it (it's hilarious). here are some screen grabs from the video:

if you love andrew...he's got a KICKSTARTER for a DVD now and though it's fully funded (and killing it), i know your support would mean a TON to him. it's here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1858362620/andrew-oneills-history-of-heavy-metal-dvd

his book by the same name (the history of heavy metal) is a HILARIOUS read even if you know fuck all about metal. he's just a really good and funny writer, and hell, if you ever wanted to learn about metal, he's got you covered.

......

and a couple notes about the setlist!:

i played a new song that i'm working on for the album that i've omitted from this recording, sorry but....it's still fetal and i have to keep some things up my sleeve goddamit.

i also played creep through the crowd after the show's intermission, but it's not in this recording because i was off mic and off camera.....

here's the setlist of the recording:

In My Mind (from amanda palmer goes down under)
Astronaut (from who killed amanda palmer)
Ampersand (from who killed amanda palmer)
Missed Me (from the dresden dolls debut)
The Killing Type (from theatre is evil)
A Mother’s Confession (which i've demo'd on patreon)
Mrs. O (from the dresden dolls' yes virginia)
Drowning in the Sound (demo'd on patreon)
Vegemite (The Black Death) with Andrew O’Neill
1952 Vincent Black Lightning (from the dad record)
Coin-Operated Boy (dresden dolls)
Machete (which i thinged on patreon)
The Bed Song (from theatre is evil)
The Ride (demo'd on patreon....which i need to remind you is still secret from the public internet, so please keep it that way, ok?)

Encore:
Ukulele Anthem (written pre-patreon, but unreleased anywhere "officially"...and probably contending right now for a slot on the new record)

....

again THE LINK:

IS HERE ON PRIVATE YOUTUBE LAND, in FOUR PARTS:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdCjn28n1Ao82Lj_I1ho8qSwcX-zBUduz

it's pretty awesome, quality-wise.

i drink wine. i play. i cry.

the video is one long concert film spanning over TWO AND A HALF hours, so we split it up into four sections in a private youtube playlist to help it load easier for you (part 1 is andrew's set, and parts 2, 3 & 4 are my set). if you want to jump ahead to a specific song, expand the video descriptions and click the video part and the timestamps linked in the youtube descriptions.

again, this is for patrons only. but dudes....i am totally fine with you sharing this video with your friends privately. just please don't post this link on internets/reviews/social media/etc. it's a work in progress, for us, for me, for right now.

once i get shit more in shape, i will probably make this concert public after next year.

we also recorded the audio separately and will be making it a live album for you, the stream link for that will be coming soon to all patrons....

[UPDATE] this is the PATRON ONLY link to stream the pro-recorded audio of the brighton show:
https://soundcloud.com/amandapalmer/sets/amanda-palmer-live-at-brighton/s-j8Ai9

meanwhile download $3+ patrons, standby, in the next few days you'll be getting links to download the audio from the show and the full video.

and one last note:

i just got out of the recording studio and wrote a really goddamn good song.

i am getting my mojo back.

i cannot wait to make this record, and i can't wait to polish this show and take it on a world tour.

i am bursting with joy at all the sadness.

it's gonna be so sad.

and so good.

and so real.

i needed this.

enjoy it.

and thank you as always to my huge and beautiful crew in the UK and on the home front of team AFP for making this happen.

everyone: please tell me what you think of the show, of everything. i'll be taking this same show to edinburgh for four shows only and i'll be developing this show more, with a slightly different set list....talk to me. i want to know.

all of you: thank you for being my patrons and being in this world with me.

my heart is alight.

p.s. re: FEEDBACK.....as usual, wide open to feedback, not just on the video content and the video/audio quality, but on the undertaking of recording and releasing this AS A PATREON THING. do you like that we did this? do you like how we did this? i'm don't plan to record and Thing a concert every month, y'know, that'd be boring.....but i think it's nice to spend some real money a few times a year - as i did here - to hire a pro pro pro team to capture a single show and share a beautiful recording for people who can't make it out to the gigs for whatever reason.

ooo one more thing:

if anyone wants to start a more long-standing/coherent discussion thread about the show, i started a discussion thread on the official patreon FB page, here. i'll be reading over there as well. i can't wait until patreon builds its own fucking forum. fuuuuuck facebooooooook

and/or write to me below. i'm readin'. love from the dark...

So glad this is up. I was at Brighton and there was much sobbing and eye wiping all around and it was AMAZING. The energy was so powerful and uplifting as we all fell out into the street. A truly magical and transportive evening.

omg fucking god! i’m still listening but 👊🏽 it’s official, i am a convert. when i first bumped into your work it was because of your ted talk and i loved what you said. it brought me back to myself and got me performing again. thx 😘 but i didn’t like your music. at least, the little i heard after going on youtube. not a problem, i love your artistry, your ovum, i’m ok with not being a fan of your sound. what the fuck was wrong with my ears! i’m in love 😍 you’ve made another conquest. thx u thx u thx u!

I don't remember if it was this post or another one, but you asked about audio vs video+audio. Truthfully I usually don't watch the webcasts, I listen to them while I'm at work. So while missing out on Andrew's dress would have been disappointing, not having video wouldn't have changed my experience very much.

I've bookmarked the Brighton Festival show, but having seen the Eugene show, and just having read your Bruce Springsteen on Broadway blog, I'm excited for your world tour and sending power for the planning+rehearsing+storytelling of it all. I loooove >> "8. you don’t need to warm up the audience. they came ready to feel. 8:32pm, bitches. 8:32pm." YES. We had to leave early from Eugene and I was sad to miss the newer songs and the emotions that I knew were coming in later on.

I watched it and I loved it from the first minute to the very end. I usually don’t find time to watch the whole show or listen to the podcasts but being on a vacation right now means I have time for everything. Great show, absolutely smashing video! Thanks for it.

I am SO excited you are working with Dylan! I have been listing to his podcast from day 1 and can't wait to see what comes! Hoping to see you next year in Canada!

I heard Ampersand for the first time about 9 years ago, but I don't think I understood what it's about until I watched this performance of it. Wow.

Dorit

Its National Women's day here in South Africa, and watching this is such an amazing and appropriate way to spend the evening. Thank you, Amanda. Drowning in the Sound and Machete are so beautiful live. Please do keep making these webcasts. Amazing quality.
