hallo dears

first off: I AM SITTING DOWN TO REHEARSE FOR TOUR TODAY, jason has a piano at his place in seattle, i landed here last night. if you're coming (or even if you're not), gimme some idea of some things you'd like to hear. my songs, please. no freebird. ok? ok.

okay so we went to one of the famous northwest espresso/coffee drive-thrus (in seattle, they are everywhere, and sometimes they are manned, sorry womanned, by females in bikinis, which is always so strangely upsetting but that’s a feminism-post for another day) and i got a strong latte and jason got a soy chai.

we drove back to jason's house and my latte was good but jason said his chai was too gross; it was overly sweet.

and i said "i know you, you have nothing in your house you can add to it to make it less sweet because you have no milk and really nothing in your fridge" and i joked that maybe he could add some of my coffee to it, since i hadn’t put any sugar in my coffee and, after all, a Dirty Chai is a thing; it’s a chai with espresso in it.

we were like: it would be a chai-coffee. a chai-koffsky.  a tchai-kovsky.

i said maybe a tchaikovsky is what happened when you have a chai plus a coffee after you are in your cozy alpine lodge after you hit the slopes and you want a nice drink. you know. after you ski.

jason said no, a tchaikovsky is what happens when you mix chai, coffee and vodka. and he said i have no milk at my house but i have vodka.

so we had tchaikovskys for breakfast.

next: we rehearse for tour, which starts tomorrow in spokane. see a lot of you soon.

how to make a  a tchaikovsky:

1. order a chai that is overly sweet.
2. order a latte.
3. mix the two: 2 parts overly sweet chai to 1 part latte.
4. add some vodka.

IT IS WONDERFUL AND TASTES KIND OF LIKE AN IRISH COFFEE EXCEPT WITH, ER, MORE THINGS IN IT.

you're welcome,

ENJOYSKI

I'm so excited to see you in Portland! It will be my first time seeing you live, and I've been waiting for this for years! I have no drink recipes, just a hypothetical glass of love. 💕💕💕

❤️ Why have I never thought to add vodka to my dirty chai!

I can't wait to see you on Sunday. It means the world to me. And if you're taking requests... I would love to hear Delilah live. I think I've seen every cover online. It never fails to touch me. See you Sunday! :)

I always wondered if there was a drink named after you, and now I'm glad that I know. This all sounds really refreshing rn.

Did you edit this post? The part about the bikini baristas is worded differently and the part about patriarchy is missing or I’m getting old and senile and have the begging stages of dementia from CTE.

Anonymous

Because when I originally read it, it sounded hypocritical as fuck and I wanted to be sure I was understanding what was being said because it sounded a lot like virtue signaling and that was disappointing. It made me sad.

Mike, I don't think it was edited? It looks the same to me. Saianne, yup. Me too, I really want to know what is 'upsetting' about a drive up coffee shop staffed by people are wearing bikinis. Especially coming from someone that is supposed to be very open minded.

Yeah I don’t think she’s gonna answer and that’s really sad and depressing for me cause she’s my all-time favorite feminist hero. I learned a lot from her posts and blogs in the past. She’s introduced me to new and exciting artist and writers. If it wasn’t for Amanda Palmer I might have never known who Neil Gaiman is. When I found out she was engaged to him I thought well he must be fucking supremely awesome and he is! I’ve read all of his books save the Sandman series and the other graphic novels. Before that I read a lot of Henry Rollins, Charles Bukowski, Nietzsche and stuff like that. Now I read more of everything. More by women authors. I’m just really disappointed and feel like she’s intentionally dodging this question. I’m also starting to feel like I’m an asshole for even asking or questioning her about it but I know I’m not.

I think it has to do with the fact the coffee chain objectifies women to sell coffee (come here for your late and see a half-naked "babe"!). that's patriarchy to me, there's a distinction between a woman taking charge of her own sexuality and being proud and open-minded and restaurants that force their female staff to conform to a certain dress code (short skirts and heels) for the male gaze. Basically, it's imposed objectification versus a woman choosing to wear whatever the *** she wants and make money however the *** she wants, which we all support.

Maybe. However it’s technically no different from the all nude strip club if you think about it in a rational and logical way. They are both forced to conform to a dress or undress standard as a condition of employment. I would also argue that it is not only for the “male gaze” but also for the female gaze as it were ie. women who enjoy the female form much in the same way as most men. I think it is also important to point out that employment at both of these types of places is voluntary. As for patriarchy would it not be so if this particular coffee shop was owned, ran and staffed by women? How would you feel about it then? Again I question why one of these places is ok and the other one is not. What exactly do you even mean by, “patriarchy?”

best dirty chai i ever had was in denver in a weird little coffee shop in the gentrified/hipsterified area (but hey dirty chai) - the shop had books all over the place and was in two sections of an old brick building, across from vintage clothing and furniture stores - the name of course eludes me, but next time you're in denver wander around and i'm sure you'll find it or knowing AFP amazing connectablity skillz someone will know what the f i'm talking about and will deliver one to you at your next gig. :)

Good thing for you this was a public post, dawg or you’d never have been able to see or comment on it. If you really wanna be apart of the conversation and contribute why not join Amanda Palmer’s Patreon? It’s only a $1 a month. Then you can see “all the things.”
