hallo my loves.

this is a photo of me looking very vamp-y after a long shoot yesterday with the amazing design/photography team kahn & selesnik. the shots were for the secret musical theater project i keep teasing you about and the visuals are going to possibly be better than the music goddammit. shhhh.

greetings from a coffee shop in upstate new york where i am catching up on admin and drowning a little more than usual because i'm on single-mom duty for the next month and to make things even cheerier my daycare just went away because my daycare provider's husband is going into hospice for fatal cancer.

merry christmas, everybody. thanks, cancer.

life and death and birth still never stop happening what do you know. i'm learning to care less and less which cycle of up and down i'm in and just embrace the ride. oh look, here we are. up. oh look, here we are. down. sometimes we're in the middle. sometimes we stop and make a snack.

this time of year always feels more intense and people and things start looking a little more menacing and life-like and ugly and beautiful surreal. i suggest we all just remember to stop to make a snack. make a snack for a loved one. we are nicer when we aren't hungry.

and NOW!!! my big news.

to cheer and distract you, in real time, i am going to take to Ye Olde Boards and play live music, sweet live music, to help you forget and remember about life, death, birth, pain and all that.

i'm back in the saddle, darlings, and i've cherry-picked just a few shows this coming season. patrons will get access to tickets first and i hope to see a ton of you out there as we celebrate the is-ness of absurd existence together... (speaking of which, if you missed the entire webcast from london, you should go watch it now: this is a patron-only link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdCjn28n1Ao9ZFGniiI4VT9IgVunnwlJY). my bestest friend/soul-sister JASON WEBLEY is going to be joining me for ALL of the below dates, and if you've never had a chance to see jason...you should see jason. he's fucking incredible live, he only gets better and better, and he hasn't been touring as much lately due to illness in his family. these shows will be deep and healing for all.

i'm going to be playing it by ear, as usual....i'll have a grand piano at every gig, i'll probably whip out the ol' ukulele, and if these shows are anything like last years', i'll be playing an entirely different setlist every night depending on what's going on, who are you, where we are, and what's happening.

including new things.

so here we GO.

..........................

first off, this little weird gig almost doesn't count... but it's FREEEEEEEE and we'll also be screening our wesleyan students' video for the first time! so if you're anywhere near middletown, CT, COME!:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts honestly Amanda. Not sure which way to go as a $1 pledger but hitting the small fry hardest doesn't seem cool to me. Bad Patreon. Go Matreon.

I'm leaving everything behind and moving from Mass to Washington in a couple months. I just bought tix for your show in Seattle. Seeing you will feel like home ♡

Haley Raspet

*sob* I was a click away from buying Seattle tickets when I realized I'm in a wedding that day.

The vampy look with the flowing hair in this pic is really working! And as to the ups and downs of life: I've always felt that it's better to do your best but remember that in the end it's only barely in your control - if at all. It's why I love that line about life being about coming skidding to the grave, riding your coffin like a drag-racer, you worn and well used screaming "damn what a ride!"

JessTCreate

I just got my Seattle tickets and I'm going to get the Portland tickets as soon as I see them on sale! I'm crying with excitement. After loving your work and all that you are for so many years, I can finally make seeing you in person a reality for THE FIRST TIME! I will be the one with the big purple hair jumping up and down crying with excitement at both of these shows! If you need anything while in my neck of the woods, I would be over the moon to help you in any way. 💜💜💜

I bought tickets for New Orleans, and I'm very excited but also nervous. I'm coming alone and have never been to the city before. Any suggestions from the AFP crew on navigating N.O. is welcome!

Heya! Saw your post on fb about somewhere to stay in Cape Town and wanted to reiterate my offer of a sweet place in kleinmond a little out of town if you had time :)

Amanda, i never thought this day would come <3 I live in Cape Town and can help with much of the organising. I have venue connections (galleries, bookshops, live music venues) and i have time and love to put to this.

Seriously was just wondering if you ever wear your hair down in public. Maybe I'm just a dummy. Then I saw this photo and thought, "Who's that?" Rwrrrrr! Nice! Happy for everyone who'll get the joy of your passion and talent. I can't be greedy. I did all three Boston DD shows, so I'm shutting up about my chances to see you with Jason....
