I've been thinking about how to produce stuff more efficiently without overworking and missing deadlines. So I'm trying a new thing. It's a companion series where Captain D focuses on explaining simple video/filmmaking tech concepts, while hopefully still being entertaining.

I'm imposing some style rules on myself that'll force me to keep it simple. (Although that's exactly how Quick D started and... I managed to make that complicated anyway!) I just want to see if I'm capable of increasing quantity by pulling back on quality in a smart, controlled way that doesn't cause the videos to feel cheap and ordinary...

We filmed a batch of 3 yesterday and I'm editing them now. All 3 will be released together this month, then one at a time on a regular basis.

I think that's a pretty awesome idea and have always felt like there was a gap left after you finished the Back To The Future / IL&M videos. Greatly looking forward to this! EDIT: One question. Will this series be as Captain D?

Anonymous

Looking good, even though you do a lot. I'm not gonna say "too much" because that'd be an understatement.

That sounds amazing! I can't wait! Will these be Patreon exclusive?

Your quality is so high, a slight reduction still leaves you miles ahead of the majority of YouTube. Looking forward to watching it!

Just speaking for myself - I'm good with whatever you want to do.

I really hope you learn from your past mistakes and keep the costume/makeup simple. I'd recommend saving time by just wearing a simple mo-cap suit and then rendering some new host character over top, that way you'll never need to waste time worrying about your costume or makeup! Keepin' it simple.

Would you like us to finger waggle at you when you start getting too flashy with this series? You do kick ass work and you deserve some down time to relax, which I assume you get to do for a maximum for 3 minutes a day.

Great idea! I’m always happy to wait for your videos because they’re just that good- but I do like the idea of short format, focused videos. Quick D? 😉

I've never found the quick Ds complicated, but paying $50/mo to make memes in Photoshop means I've also spent plenty of time in After Effects and Premiere to get my monies worth. Still excited for this, I always aspired to one day retire, open a brewery, and on the side, make cool things out of metal and wood, and in my spare time make videos.

Bets of luck Capt

For me, your primary goal is debunking of fake videos, specifically, ones that purport to be real. Although I really love the quality you put in to showing how it should be done, that part is not really necessary. But I am confident that any "keeping it simple" you do will still be far higher in production value that those you debunk. Keep up the great work.

Hearing about your production process is exactly why I signed up here! Very cool and sounds like a smart approach! Look forward to the series. - JJanimater

seems pretty decent ... but somehow i like your over engineered stuff :-) .. maybe because i intend to do things the same way :-P. it would be nice if you could show us how you kept on your track. My experience with projects is, that it isn't easy to say for sure if we can realiz a idear in the given time or not. It needs a lot of experence and time to think the necessary steps throught in advance.

Definitely follow your heart and do what is right for you because you are the most important person in your life! We all love you the way you are Captain. Your videos are amazing and you obviously take pride in what you do which shows. If we have less content from you but you are able to live a more stress free life please do that. We will all be here waiting when you do produce that amazing content. I appreciate you! -Ryan
