So excited for season 2! The whole season is great!!

Darren Penuliar

Just a heads up, episodes 12 and 18 this season are longer since Netflix decided to combine episodes for whatever reason. Just an fyi if that changes scheduling or what not. Thanks for the reaction!

YAYYYY

Danishprince

Great start to the season! Really love the first episode as it shows that the world isn't just black and white. It's not just Fire Nation = bad, rest fo the world = good. There's good and bad on both sides and the general being willing to sacrifice all of his men and use Aang just as a weapon.. Not good! Also the cutting of the hair is a symbolic thing that in this case shows they're no longer high-status and royalty. While Zuko has been in exile he was still the prince and Iroh saw great respect from others because of his past achievements but now they're basically nothing and are figitives :)

The Cave of Two Lovers is definitely worth rewatching. Lots of little jokes and I love the lyrics to all the songs aha. One of my favs!

2 really great episodes to start the new season, sorry book, Nat. Those hippies were stressing me out too. All you need is to trust in love " And maybe a map" You're always so practical Nat 😂 And I appreciated The Darkness sing-song. Love their music. I've seen them live loads of times. Looking forward to the next show. Beaten by those fire folk yet again. Thanks for another fun video today Nat 💛

Still upset that 'Secret Tunnel' didn't win a grammy

Season 2 is prob my favorite overall season, so excited to rewatch!

I'm hoping for Legend of Korra after this show (it's the sequel).

Lol NATALIE, you missed arguably the best line in Ep. 2 when Katara asks "Is this real or a legend?" to which the nomad replies "Oh it's a real legend!"

Jack Koonce

Ahh yes, I love this episode. The first time Aang earthbended. It was amazing, did you see the size of that hole he dug with Katara?

SweetCandle

"These hippies stressin' me out" really got me.

Caomhan84

Yeah they really do kiss. Although it's left ambiguous in the episode it apparently was in the script, and there are subtle signs like their fingers are intertwined when the lights come on (and one of the supplemental short stories tells the moment from Katara's POV). I get so much secondhand embarrassment for Aang every time I watch this episode, but I have to remind myself that when I was 12, I was too nervous to even talk to girls I liked. The prospect of actually kissing them would've left my brain in a perpetual loop of indecision. I think you also get much more enjoyment out of the hippie group when you're older, too. You actually recognize that they're hippies and know what they're about, whereas when you're younger they just seem like morons.

I had to join the Patreon specifically for this series because I can no longer experience the joy of watching through it for the first time myself so I have to live vicariously through others. A quick note: for me, what truly elevates the series into "favorite piece of media I've ever consumed" status is that the writing, the worldbuilding, the character development - all of it is top notch. We get hints of the writers' brilliance throughout the first season - think episodes like The Storm or The Siege of the North - but the majority of the episodes in Book 1 are bottle episodes and so it's harder for the writing to really shine, and I think that's why as much as I liked the first season I think it's by far the weakest of the three.

SECRET TUNNEL!!

Joe Blankenship

I'm so behind on this show now. I figure I'll have to binge it with you sometime. Those first few episodes just weren't grabbing me.

Caomhan84

That's always a good joke. But one of the many things I love about this show is how they didn't milk this moment, as cringe as it was Other shows would have...you would've had several episodes of awkwardness afterwards. But Katara doesn't seem to care. They kiss in the cave, hug, hold hands and she even blushes by the end of the episode. The connection they have is more important than missteps and misunderstandings.

(Spoiler free) I feel like a lot of people overlook the significance of Zuko cutting off his hair like that. There is a set of books that came out a few years ago following the life of a past avatar (Avatar Kyoshi), and one of the main characters is a fire nation citizen. It is described from her point of view that the length of their hair is a sacred thing to them- a status symbol- and when they are disgraced or lose their honor in some way, that is when they cut it off. It makes a lot of sense too, since all 4 nations in this series are based off of various real world Eastern Asian cultures; the fire nation being based off imperial age japan, who had a similar view to cutting hair.

Jack Koonce

Ive watched a couple reactors watch this show, and it's always funny because most of them have already heard the SECRET TUNNEL!! song even though they haven't even seen the series.

Caomhan84

Yeah, it's akin to when samurai cut off their top knots. But although I've heard forever that the Fire Nation is analogous to Japan (And I don't really dispute that)... When we actually see it, it looks pretty much like the Earth Kingdom does, like China. The only difference visually seems to be a little bit of architecture difference and that's it. They look very similar to me....and they both look like 1800s China. 😂 I think they could have tried harder to make it seem more like Japan.

Ben Gilshenan

secret TUNNEL!! also nat- i want more strong women characters, just wait for toph

Logan Kerlee

That was a lot of fun! :) I had no idea about the Secret Tunnel song altogether, so I'm gonna go look into it. Ya'll rock! <3

John

Ive heard the hair cutting in e1 is indeed to let go of their royal identity. You can see the headpiece azula wears in her hair as well. Also, new patron! Thanks for your great content and lots of love from the Netherlands!
