"The power of the sun, in the palm of my hand." Love this movie.

Happy Marvel Monday Nat. Hope you had a good weekend too. Love your new intros. They are just so you. This is such a fun movie, with a lot of great action scenes, and I love the melodrama of it all. And of course, J.K. Simmons gets all the best lines again 😊 Otto is played by Alfred Molina, who was the guy in your favourite Raiders of the Lost Ark scene who got the tarantulas all over his back 😄 A great Danny Elfman score, despite the fact that he and Sam Raimi fell out during the making of the film, and some scenes are scored by Christopher Young, who went on to score Spiderman 3 and the following Raimi movies. They must have kissed and made up though, because Elfman is scoring Dr. Strange 2, directed by Raimi. Loved your Katy Perry reference and also after Peter and MJ were almost crushed to death by a car, your main concern was "Oh, her hats gone" 😂 Nat, you're awesome. Thanks for an amazing video today 💛

Nemesis

Sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most.. even our dreams- Aunt May :')

Randee Carreno

Happy Monday, Natalie! 😊 I'm downloading this right now so that I can watch later tonight. This is a good one. I like this one, but not as much as the first movie. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Danishprince

Marvel Monday will never end!

Ian

Hey nat hope you also had a wonderful weekend as usual movies on Mondays don't work for me as I'm not in so have to save this til the weekend but I am definitely looking forward to it at least I have time to sort some food snacks 😃 until then stay golden 💛

Ben Wheeler

I love Emily Deschanel's cameo :)

collegeguy6377

Hey Nat! The character of Ditkovich is actually a reference to Steve Ditko, the co-creator of both Spider-man and Doctor Strange alongside Stan Lee.

Anonymous

Is anyone else having an enormously hard time keeping this synced to the movie? Watching on Amazon and its running slightly faster than the recording.

Joe Blankenship

That scene where the arms come to life and kill all the doctors. That's a very good example of Sam Raimi's style. Particularly when he does horror. All those fast cuts and cartoony angles. It's fun. Darkman is another good Sam Raimi movie. And of course the Evil Dead franchise.

Anonymous

I think the clips sync fine, but the overlay's definitely running ahead of Nat's reaction.

Anonymous

Fun Fact JK Simmons is the voice of the Yellow M&M you hear during commercials

Chris H

After Chernobyl I can't help but think that dropping a super heated fusion reaction into water like would instantly turn the water to steam and create a thermal explosion, wiping out the city.

john collins

the fact that Nat loves awkward Peter so much actually makes me excited for what she's going to think about the next one lol

Anonymous

Definitely more cheesy than I remembered but still pretty enjoyable. Aunt May's speech still gets to me. That's why aunt May should be portrayed as an old woman, wiser but sweet, the delivery is completely different. Rosemary Harris really nails it. PS: Oh boy, Sam Raimi loves making woman scream out of fear, the movie is filled with them.

Philippe Dessaints

People say that JK Simmons is irreplaceable as JJJ, and they're right but holy crap Aunt May in this is amazing. Out of all the aunt may, she's my favorite.

JediLounger

Natalie: This movie is so cheesy!! Literally every single one of us: Just wait. 😬

Opti_Frog

The camerawork in the hospital, when Doc Ock's mechanical arms massacre the staff, is pure Evil Dead 2 😄

Opti_Frog

Can't really torment Bruce Campbell in the Spider-Man movies, so... 😅

Anonymous

That was such a fun watch-along! And not only because I just love the Sam Raimi Spidey movies. Thanks, Nat! Alfred Molina characterizes DocOck in such a nuanced and fun way. Definitely one of my favourite comic movie characters/villains. Actually, Molina deserves much praise for being always good in the movies he appears in. On a sidenote, and absolutely not in the context of comic superheros: I can highly recommend watching Julie Taymor's biopic "Frida" about the life of Frida Kahlo in which Salma Hayek and Alfred Molina both shine as actors.

Fraser

A film tries to do anything remotely creative - “that’s so cheesy”

Wu Sha Ling

a tidbit of trivia: JK Simmons' assistent is played by Ted Raimi, Sam's brother. Similar to James Gunn and his brother Sean Gunn. Even tho it is literally nepotism, they do play the goofy sidekick character pretty well.

Anonymous

This is probably my all-time favorite superhero movie (even above the MCU ones), but the syle is deliberately over the top, it's Raimi's thing. Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy captures, more than any other comic book movies, the style of a comic book from the days before comics started being influenced by other media: Theatrical prose, stylized set pieces, and yes, cheesy sight gags. Almost like a play taking place in the real world rather than a stage. It IS cheesy, specially when compared to its modern descendants. But it's by no means bad because of it.

Anonymous

Oh boy Spiderman 3 is next. Where Memes never die lol definitely the weakest of the 3 but still excited to see your reaction to it and maybe it will spark your interest into watching the Venom and Venom let there be carnage movie to learn more of that character as well cause he plays somewhat of a big role as to what is coming next for our Wall Crawler after no way home.

djKENTO

Yeah the video is about 3 seconds ahead from her reaction. Just sync to video, pause your movie, count to 3 and hit play. Seemed perfect after that.

Victoria Y

Another great reaction! Wondering if anyone else thought the sync up on-screen this time around felt a little wonky – sounded like Natalie was reacting to things later than they occurred. Wasn't a big issue though :)

Daniel Vezina

Maybe only 10 min difference. But it's 5-10 seconds damn every 5 min, the worst to sync. Really hope it's gonna be the Super Duper Cut for DP2

Anonymous

Your reaction was the same as my girlfriend-at-the-time's reaction during the coffeeshop scene. "WTF Peter, make up your fucking mind! I'm annoyed with this shit!" I think that's how every women felt.

Robert C

I think that a lot of the camp is deliberate. It's basically Sam Rami doing his 90s horror thing in a Spider-Man movie.

Anonymous

Did anyone else have a hard time finding the theatrical cut on Amazon? I can only find the extended edition.

Anonymous

Lets rewatch it! 😌

Lorenzo Baxter

It doesn't make sense she's annoyed about it. It's the hero gig. And he fooled himself into thinking he could have a normal life. He woke in and understood being Spiderman is who he is. Getting annoyed at that means you don't pay attention to the literal meaning of being a hero like Peter. He doesn't get to have the life he wants. The literal plot of the whole movie 🤷‍♂️

Jomero

The "ow my back" scene is kind of an in-joke. Tobey Maguire did the horse racing film "Seasbiscuit" in between this movie and the first Spider-Man. And he claimed to have hurt his back during filming and had to renegotiate filming of Spider-Man 2. Once they renegotiated, his back seemed suddenly fine. So, they poked a little fun at it.

Calo Grsf

Hi Nat and thank you for this new great and funny reaction! As always you were amazing! hahaha I loved your little anecdote about "Otto The Orange", it was totally unexpected hahaha S-M 2 is my favourite, Molina as Dr. Ock is awesome, as Dafoe in his Goblin role, I can't imagine someone else in a new live-action in those roles hahaha Of course the film has its cheesy moments and defaults but it's what it makes its charm for me hahaha I can't wait for thought about the last one (not the best but it's so "funny", I still like it 😆) I just hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Ilsuk Yang

Yeah, you definitely don't need to watch the extended edition, although you can just watch the extended scenes on YouTube on your own time (there's one you'll find hilarious! I won't say anymore as this is already enough of a spoiler). There's only a few scenes that are extended, but I think it actually adds to the movie. This movie is definitely cheesy (on purpose) and I love it! When people tell me, "it's so cheesy!" I just look at them and say, "you say that like that's a bad thing!" Anyways, I always enjoy your golden reactions!

Tay Schumaker

Glad you could see the cheese fest this really is. Always blows me away when people call this the best super hero movie. Rose colored glasses of nostalgia. It’s a fun movie but god is it bad and cringey

Tay Schumaker

It’s 100% deliberate, doesn’t make it any less bad. It’s Raimi’s thing. I hope Feige reined him in for Dr Strange MoM

—thoughtstorms—Keith—

It is time to plug some of my favourite comedy humans. You'll see why. https://youtu.be/EvfvstDunAw

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

Had a heck of a time trying to sync up. The overlay is ahead your reaction Nat

JayF

Somebody already covered where you know Alfred Molina from. The hospital shot with the cameras in POV of the arms is pure Sam Raimi. If you ever watched or will watch any of his work from Hercules, Xena, or the Evil Dead franchise then it's instantly recognizable. It's intentionally campy.

Anonymous

"He humiliated me by touching me. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)" Your reaction to that line got me in stitches. It did NOT pass the "13yo kid" check :D

Matthew Periolat

Like this one better than the first, but is it damning with faint praise to say Kirsten Dunst and Alfred Molina are the best things in the movie? I just can’t warm to Tobey’s Spider-Man, I truly don’t know what my problem is here. But do not regret seeing this one. I will say what I’ve heard about the next one… yeah, it’s not good. But excited to see the Garfield Spider-Man movies are coming up too! And while I love diversity in movies, I dunno, there’s something comfortable with the superhero genre. Good fun to start the week! Can’t wait until ATLA tomorrow! Still golden!

Keith Jacobsen

Engaged person Natalie Gold insists time and again that "Engaged ain't married!". /s

Adrian

Dunst's MJ is such a terrible person in these films. No fault of hers, of course.

Jason Dolan

That was a great reaction to this movie - a very cheesy movie, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Skizane

Well, nuclear fusion and nuclear fission are very different things. Nuclear reactors in use now are all fission reactors that create power by splitting atoms, which creates radiation and nuclear waste. Nuclear fusion as portrayed in the movie would produce power by fusing atoms rather than splitting them which would produce heavier atoms, and as yet mankind hasn't managed to pull off harnessing fusion for power yet. Only in the movies, which is why the characters talk about it as being such a revolutionary discovery, because nobody's been able to crack it in the real world.

Thomas Richter

I love cheese, who doesn't? And this movie is like a Gouda or a Gorgonzola.

Jon Hoover

It's not really a cameo. She was unknown back then. She was just a new actress in a small part.

Kade (Sydney, AU)

That really sounds like a PAL versus NTSC speed differential, not an issue between theatrical and extended cuts. In an extended cut, you can expect extra and longer scenes here and there that accumulate stepwise, not a continuous decay. Basically all European markets and Australia and some of South America will show 25 frames of film every one second, which leads to Natalie's version (locked at 24 frames per second, which is technically correct) drifting by 4% of the total runtime.

Lorenzo Baxter

God this reaction was ridiculous. Creative decisions in older movies ≠ cheesy. Someone taught you the definition wrong. And right, everything that happens to Peter is his fault. In a lot of your reactions you always find a way place blame on men. Someone must've broken you to make you hate men so much. Peter literally is a fucking superhero and does what's right, and when bad shit happens to him, it's his fault? Wrong. It's life's fault. He deserves so much more but he constantly gets shit for being a good person. That should warrant sympathy, not the blame game. My god. Someone raised you wrong.

Jakob

Is it just me or is this impossible to sync up properly? nats version seems slower than every other version I tried.

Anonymous

I've never gotten the impression that Natalie hates men. What a weird thing to fixate on. This is entirely too much rage over a stranger's thoughts on a movie made when they were a child.

Jakob

Yeah it’s definitely slower. I purposefully played nats version ahead of mine and mine caught up and overlapped her version.

Lucifer Moon

What's funny is you can spot the punisher watching MJ at the end of this film. Raimi wanted to do a version of the MCU back then so he snuck the punisher in as a seed to try and pressure sony.

NFXx

So happy you got to this one, loved your reaction. Spider-Man 2 is agreed upon to be the best of the trilogy. The next one is definitely more cheesy, also the one that probably has the most memes out of all three. Was wondering if you would’ve recognized somebody else you’ve seen in the first film that made a appearance (not Stan) although he was wearing glasses in the first so he might’ve not been easily recognized, but you’ll probably notice him in the next one. Also glad to know it wasn’t just me that thought your reactions were a bit off. Seems like there was a 2 to 3 second delay.

Lucifer Moon

Also yes, Robbie from the daily bugle in the comics did know peter was spiderman and even when on a few missions with him. Also, the usher is meant to be Mysterio someday which is why he said the word illusion in such a weird way. Also, the Usher was the wrestling announcer in spiderman 1. There was a lot things raimi wanted to do like starting the mcu early with spidy and punisher teaming up but the studio just refused to give in.

Greg McDaniel

I honestly don't think the MCU would exist without these films.

Richard Maurer

While her treatment of John Jamison was pretty bad, the other guys she dumped, Flash and Harry, were both scumbags to her. So I'm not sure how she was a bad enough to be described as terrible.

Richard Ryan

Hey Nat, yes, you did see spiderman save the train being at the front of it webbing up the buildings left and right, but it was in Spiderverse. :) Also, it made me sad to hear you say, "I'm gonna default to seeing just the theatrical release." and then 2 minutes later "I've gotta have me some more JK Simmons." ... There is more JK Simmons, in the extended. ;)

Thomas Malley

It were the movies that proved that comic books could be made into successful movies. Prior to that we only had X-Men as evidence. Spider-Man 2 solidified the notion, and started Fox onto their attempts with Fantastic Four, which obviously weren't exactly the box office juggernauts they had been hoping for. Finally in 2008 Marvel got it right with Ironman.

Anonymous

Man with opinions shocked at the existence of different ones!

Simon Bauer

didn't sync up with my film, think i had the extended :/

Jomero

I was watching the regular, but on google play. I noticed it wasn't too synced as well, I had to have the actual movie playing a few seconds behind Nat's. It was most obvious when she was singing along with "Raindrops keep falling on my head" and that helped me sync it up a bit better.

Jomero

Well, good luck with the third movie. It is universally regarded as the worst of the three. I remember holding off watching it until it got to video, and gave it a watch. I remember thinking "It really can't be as bad as everyone says, right?" And I remember thinking during the first 1/3 of it, "Yeah, this really isn't as bad as people are saying." But then it got worse. And worse. And worse. Without spoiling anything, I truly believe the movie suffered because there was a conflict of what Raimi wanted to do and what the studio wanted Raimi to do. So he tried to compromise and that just didn't work out well.

Richard Maurer

J.K. Simmons is great as Omni-Man in Invincible. I wish Natalie would do a reaction to this series. One of the best (if not the best) American animated shows, although the (animated) violence and gore might be too much for some people. But Natalie said she liked the first season of The Boys, so this one shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Thomas Malley

It just get campier and campier. It's not too bad in my opinion. I actually like it quite a bit. A BIT overstuffed, but that was studio mandated.

Marcell

Why do you say everything is cheesy? Lol. This is regarded by a lot of people as one of the best superhero movies of all time. And still has the highest rotten tomatoes score of any spider man movie.

Patrick Toscano

The reason that Willem Dafoe was in the movie is because he happened to run into the crew while they were filming and they gave him a cameo.

Greg McDaniel

The great thing about this movie is it's NOT a Spider-Man movie. It's %100 a Peter Parker movie. Spider-Man doesn't defeat Doc Ock, Peter does by appealing to his better nature. Mary Jane doesn't fall in love with Spider-Man, she falls in love with Peter. Peter doesn't become Spider-Man because he feels like he has to, like in the first film, but because he chooses to.

Anonymous

I love Emily Deschanel's "Bones" cameo. She is the girl who did not pay for the pizzas at the beginning of the movie

LightsCameraJake

Jesus christ, I forgot how many horror elements are used in this movie. I never had so many jump scares for a superhero movie before XD

Anonymous

Spider-Man 2.1 is an even better version of this film with extended/new scenes that were cut.

Jenny Tolls

There was a lot of delay here and there's been some in your other videos. I hope you see this and can fix it!!

Cripkie

the train scene still chokes me up when I re-watch it. self-sacrifice followed by group altruism gets me every time.

Anonymous

This was such a fun reaction to watch. ❤️❤️ especially with the back and forth between MJ and Peter’s feelings for each other.

Anonymous

I wasn't aware of there being an extended cut, so I watched that this time. Syncing was an issue, of course. I must say, you avoided the worst scene of the movie by watching the theatrical cut.

Stefan Johannsson

Think there's a clear 3-4 sec lag between the video and your reaction on this one. Seems like your reactions are delayed compared to the video que up. Just a heads up

Logan Kerlee

Loved your reaction to this! :) As a kid I really didn't enjoy this one.. I thought it was garbo in comparison to the first. I still really enjoy the first one more but I also like this one now. :) Appreciate that you watched this! :) Looking forward to Spiderman 3! (that one I also felt was garbo but I don't see my tastes changing with that! xD) Tyler's 100% on the 3rd.

Anonymous

I love this movie. It’s my favorite Spider-Man movie. I love the cheesiness. I think it’s perfect. Comics and the cartoons were that way. Spider-Man is my favorite super hero of all time. And the Sam Raimi/ Toby McGuire trilogy is my favorite of the Spider-Man movie but I also love all the other movies as well. I loved the reaction

Thomas Richter

You should watch Daredevil Nextflix Show next. It is very good

Anonymous

this movie is free on crackle thats where im watching it with you

Anonymous

thank you for watching the theatrical versions, Nat.
