Amazing episode and brilliant reaction, Nat! Just a quick explainer: the FA Cup semi-final that they lost in this episode is a different tournament, it's not the one they've been playing all season to get back to the Premier League. So losing to Man City doesn't affect their main goal for the season, which is finishing in the Top 2 of the Championship to earn promotion. This was an extra tournament that they had the chance to win but they just came up against the best team in the country and had no shot. The fact that they even got to the semi-final is a huge achievement, considering they had to play Tottenham in the previous round. They beat Tottenham thanks to Nate's park the bus strategy, but Man City was a different beast and a 5-0 loss is actually pretty realistic for a team of Richmond's level.

That was a real beautiful moment between Jamie and Roy. A few tears today Nat, but there was also some fun to be had. The semi-finals and the final of the F.A. Cup are played at Wembley to allow more spectators to attend, and also so there is no home advantage. The guy that you called the same announcer is probably a tv or radio commentator who travels to all the grounds throughout the season. They are now out of the FA Cup Competition, but the regular season of games continue. We'll get you up to speed on soccer Nat, don't worry 😊 Looking forward to seeing how Sam and Rebecca move forward. Thanks for another great Ted reaction today Nat 💛

Eddie

The ending with Rebecca and Sam hooking up is a big hit and a miss from the writers. You are right feeling uncomfortable with it because an owner of a team dating a player who is half their age is not healthy.

Happy Tuesday Nat another really great reaction more tears than laughs granted but still a lot of fun, I just adore the scenes with Roy and his niece, Jamie's dad really is a piece of work, seeing Mike Dean playing the ref in the match was pretty cool as he is a premier league referee so another nice little cameo right there and yes he's definitely been called worse 😂 so you've been to stanford Bridge eh Nat can't say I have but I've been to Wembley a heap of times 🙂 ty as always for the great reaction Nat and until the next one stay golden 💛

I am from the Netherlands. Your first pronunciation of the name Jan is correct. The letter J is not pronounced that distinctly in Dutch, as they do in the show.

Roy hugging Jamie got to me as well. Had a similar relationship with my dad as Jamie. Damn ninjas cutting onions again

I knew someone more expert would explain the cup thing :). I did wonder if you caught exactly what Ted said about his dad? (seemed like you might have missed the operative word, I couldn’t tell). If not you will definitely want to go back before you watch further (unless you already have, of course!)

Eric

I kinda think the best moment in season 1 was the dart competition between Ted and the ex-husband (specifically the "Be curious, not judgmental" speech); that moment between Roy and Jamie after the loss is probably the best moment in season 2, I think.

I love Natalie's fingers bopping to the opening tune even as her face shows utter shock and disbelief.

The FA cup is a basically a tournament that goes concurrently with the regular season. So its a semi final but its not the end of the season. Also that ending song has officially been recontextualized by the Midnight Mass trailer.

In Europe there is no playoff to decide the best team in the league - whomever is at the top just wins the whole thing and gets a trophy. Simultaneously, however, all the teams play a tournament throughout the season (in England its the FA cup) that is like a big playoff but with all the leagues. Best you can do is win two trophies: one for the league and one for the cup. Richmond's loss was in the cup tournament but they are still playing for promotion back to the big league.

Wembley isn't the home ground of any specific club but is instead owned the the FA (English footballs governing body). Its used by the English national team for home games and as "neutral ground" for major tournaments finals and semi-finals (an FA Cup semi-final is this episode) As others have said the FA Cup is independent of the league structure we have followed for most of the show. There are 14 rounds and is played over the whole season, last year 736 teams entered but teams from the top 2 leagues like Richmond and Man City skip the early rounds and enter in the 7th round (I think)

Hi Nat and thanks for this great reaction! You can not hold your tears too long haha, even this show wants to see you cry now 😆, but yeah it seems they changed a bit the atmosphere of the show, it's more serious than the first season and the fisrt part of the show. I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Now I see why all the commotion for the haircut. Rebecca's a pretty big score.

Omg I love that you love Keane.

Just rewatched the reaction, and Nat's cringe during the Sam/Rebecca scene at the restaurant is funnier than any joke in the entire episode. Just amazingly funny. And a fun fact: the doctor who treated Sharon for her concussion and talked to her and Ted at the hospital is probably Roy's sister. Even though that's never explicitly said, there are enough clues from previous episodes and from Roy's scene with Phoebe and the teacher to help us reach that conclusion.

This is the best ever episode of Ted Lasso, so much drama and laughs. You can tell the show is made in Britain and has British writers, because I don't think a popular American show would have Sam and Rebecca hook up because in American entertainment they seem to have problem depicting interracial romance between Black men and White women, which is why you never see it in mainstream American TV shows or films.

Roy hugging Jamie is such an important moment.
