I look forward to a daily dose of Nat Gold!

Ian

Back from dentist time for GOT with Nat 💛

Darryl Low

Nat, you're doing a great job watching and commenting 💛 You're picking up on a lot of stuff that a lot of folks missed first viewing, and the Thrones Fans on here will keep you right, and me too 😊 You just don't hear Jeez Louise that often. ha ha I love it! Thanks Nat.

Randee Carreno

Episode downloading for tonight. The season 6 finale is the only episode I've seen. It's been nice to watch this show from the very beginning. Looking forward to watching this reaction tonight. 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Yes, Nat is doing a wonderful job with this series. I had it easy the first time watching the show, having read all the books first. I can't even imagine trying to remember all the names and relationships without it, I'm horrible with names.

Here are the Stark kids singing the theme song :) https://youtu.be/REasBBiJm00

Ugh. Anyone giving anyone else a hard time for not catching every minor detail on their first watch of this series needs to sit down and shut up.

Keith Jones

I would say that I caught most of the minor stuff in the first season because I had read the books beforehand. I can't imagine someone catching everything first watch without that.

G. T. Blackwell

Not sure if anyone else has suggested it, but the A.V. Club is often a good resource: https://www.avclub.com/c/tv-review/game-of-thrones-newbies/season-1

Calo Grsf

Great reaction! I enjoyed the little concert you did 😆 I thought Koda was effective as a wolf haha (I loved the video you send in discord when he tried to howl like a wolf, so epic and impressive 😂) But an advice for you, be patient young padawan, you'll get your answers in good time And as always, stay golden and be safe!

Ian

really enjoyable reaction , sounds like from the intro a few people have been complaining about talking over the episode or something well personally i love that you chat during the episode , talk your heart out if you wish and as you said nat in the last episode you will catch it in the edit :) im with you about robin he is far to old for milk well that kind of milk anyway hes creepy as heck but im loving the fact you like arya so much but yeah WHERES ARYA :)

Luis Torrefranca

Oh, and for reals. Talk away. We all can talk about details after the viewing in the comments. A live viewing/watch party would be groovy sometime.

Paul C

Since you were talking about having a reference that will not spoil things to come, use this: http://viewers-guide.hbo.com/ You can select synopsis and review by season and episode, and it provides some background (spoiler free) to some of the things mentioned in passing, that are relevant.

Luis Torrefranca

So, about swords. Parrying/blocking tends to avoid edge to edge contact where the metal is harder, but more brittle. That contact results in the edges chipping and eventually the sword breaking. Flat side contact is more desirable where the metal is softer and more elastic/springy. As long as a person is aware of that and trained how to properly defend, wood can hold up well. Wasn't until Meryn Trant grabbed Syrio's wooden sword and struck it with his edge hard did it break. I love Syrio's fight in this episode so much. Unbalanced sides. Use of footwork and positioning to manage the pressure. Using the opponents clothing against them (NO CAPES!!!). Grappling/takedown.

Darth Danker

I was wearing headphones and I must say that one scream killed my ears hahaha

Ian

Oh btw the stag is the sigil of house baratheon

Sean

Nat, another resource is the Song of Ice and Fire wiki (https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Portal:TV_Show). It breaks things out into individual episodes and character pages are clearly sectioned off by book. Season 1 corresponds to the first book, Game of Thrones.

Troy B.

I can understand wanting to look things up when things are unclear, but I would say you're more or less in the same boat that a lot of us were when it aired, and had to avoid spoilers from Book People. =P (Even though there are differences.) I had one "book spoiler" early on that never came to fruition in the show, and it hindered my enjoyment of the show as I kept waiting for it to happen and it never did. In my opinion, you've got so much to keep track of in your viewings, between this and the Marvel universe, that it makes sense that you'll get names wrong or forget who people are. But that's how we get things like Screamy Planes and calling Gideon just "Moff", so it's all good! =D

Jakub C

Lovely reaction. To answer some of your questions. Sansa said that her father was not himself because he was on painkillers basically. Bronn is not of the Night's watch. He is just some random dude sellsword we met in the Inn during Tyrion's Capture. You probably mistake him with Yoren (=the dude who traveled with Tyrion before, the dude who picks up new recruits for the watch) The young kid who talked with Bran is Rickon, his brother and the youngest of the Stark children. And the stag is the sigil of the house Baratheon, Robert's house (RIP)

swoop_13-37

You're fine. I had to watch fight club like 6 times to get everything out of it. And catch everything.

swoop_13-37

I watched alt shift X on YT... But he didn't start recaps and breakdowns till season 6. "Man of recaps" does a good job as well. He does recaps for the season. Then after season 6 alt shift X is your man. His breakdowns are the best I've seen. And he includes additional information from the books that didn't make it into the show

nataliegold

Haha chuck palahniuk is incredible, but definitely have to focus to follow his stuff!

swoop_13-37

The kid was rickon... I'm prolly spelling it wrong. He's the youngest stark. In addition you called it. The purpose of the white walkers, "whites" is to show that the game of thrones, fighting over the throne, is pointless and futile. And the true fight is with the undead.... Sadly, the show runners forgot about that in season 8.

Paul C

Tommen was the younger Baratheon, brother of Joffrey. The youngest Starks was Rickon.

Steve J

I wouldn't worry about GOT research until you're done with the series. At the rate you're watching the answers will come at you with a relentless pace. The rest of us non-book people were going week to week, and occasionally more than a year between seasons. I was spoiled on a few key deaths because the internet is a ruthless monster of information that cares little about your enjoyment of the show. I think part of the show's charm is that it leaves you a bit dazed and confused by the crush of information density. You're not experiencing anything that the rest of us didn't.

john collins

don't feel bad about not catching everything this show has so many layers that seeing everything the first time through is impossible

Anonymous

It's ok about the names Natt, I was still wondering who TF was (insert character name) after watching the whole thing over for the 3rd time. As long as you're following the grater plot and enjoying the ride you're winning this!

Anonymous

I am familiar with the series, but not an expert. However, I think it is likely that one of your patrons is an expert in Game of Thrones and could provide you with a run down of "the story so far" without spoiling things that you haven't seen yet. Just a thought.

Joe Blankenship

Apparently, the actor that plays Joffrey is a really nice kid. Like the rest of the cast have talked about how much they like him. But damn, he is really good at playing a snotty, evil little brat.

Joseph Tamburo

I've been loving your journey so far with this series and look forward to seeing you watch the rest. HBO produced Animated shorts voiced by the cast called Game of Thrones History and Lore. You can find one per season available free on YouTube. These are great for filling in the 300 years of history that game before the show and are a fun watch. As long as you don't skip ahead past the season you are on you shouldn't be spoiled.

Ben Wheeler

In my book, that’s a measure of acting talent—when an actor who is nice can create a universally reviled character

A Vicarious View

No worries on the commenting. I've done reactions too and understand the struggle of juggling commentary and attention. Editing is always a great way to catch the subtleties later on. Keep up the good work. =)

Alan Kobb

Don't listen to the naysayers, Natalie! You've got over 2000 patrons and 120,000 YouTube subscribers by talking, chatting and having a blast with the movies and shows. Just keep being yourself and having fun! NO SPOILERS. I promise, by the Old Gods and the New. Here's a great spoiler-free map of Game of Thrones. https://quartermaester.info/. At the side of the map is a slider. Use the slider to select the episode you've seen, and it will show you where each character has been without showing the future. The stag is House Baratheon. That is King Robert and his two younger brothers, Stannis and Renly. So far you've only met Renly, but you've heard them talk about Stannis. Bronn is not a member of the Night's Watch. He's just a sellsword who was in the inn when Tyrion was captured by Catelyn. The man of the Night's Watch that Tyrion was originally traveling with is named Yorin and he's still in King's Landing. He's the one that told Ned that Cat had taken Tyrion. Rickon Stark is the youngest of the children. He is 6.

For catching up on seasons ... I don't know about whole seasons, but at the time the show was airing, if I remember correctly, The AV Club had articles for people who read the books and separate articles for people who hadn't. Just checked. In their TV Reviews section, if you look up Game of Thrones (Newbies) then ignore the articles for now, because they're in order of most recently aired. Jump to season 1, go to the bottom, and start with episode one.

Michael Labs

I say give little attention to the gripes... they're giving "geeks" a bad name. My joy in all these videos is in witnessing a first time viewing... confusion is an occupational hazard; and often quite enjoyable.

Cripkie

lovin the early 20th century fashion. Very noir. Like a archaeologist of the 1930s digging up some lost artefact.

Luis R.

Yo Nat, just want to say I’m really enjoying the Games of Thrones reactions! 🤙🏼 hope you enjoy the show

Miss Timi Fantastico

I'm really love these. This is my first rewatch since the last season ended and I'm really enjoying it. Thanks Nat! I saw someone else comment on this and I thin it was a good point... Don't forget to watch the occasional cartoon or youtube video or something to bring some light back into your life! It can get hard to watch all that darkness!

"There's not gonna be zombies are there?"

Byron

I’m not sure why anyone would expect you to pick up everything on a first watch. You have nothing to apologize for. You’re fine.

Byron

For your enjoyment... the Game of Thrones theme performed during an annual online fundraiser for children’s hospitals... one of my favorite renditions of all time (note the general thematic mayhem in the background) https://youtu.be/qksahLerLb0

Anonymous

It's a very confusing series especially when you have two characters on named Tyrion Lannister and Tywin Lannister.

Valar Dohaeris

This show has A LOT to take in a first watching. The rest of us had years to take it with books, maps, wiki pages, rewatches during season breaks.... You are doing really great even picking on many things that I'm sure some of those who complain didn't pick up either. In reality this is a show that gets better each rewatch, because you always pick new things you missed before. Happy to watch it again with you...

Fluffer's friend, Jason!

This! I'm on my 5th watch thru following along with Nat. I'm still picking up things, even though I read the books and paid attention the first 4 times.

Anonymous

Honestly, I've watched every ep., listened to the audiobooks, and rewatched at least the first few seasons; and there's still stuff I'm just catching this time around. Some of it is stuff Nat is catching and pointing out.

Anonymous

"You need dragons, to fight these things." Oh my sweet summer child!

Lisa Tosti

Oh my gosh! I know you said your computer is getting over heated but I really wish I could binge episodes 9 and 10 with you tonight! I'm so ready! I forgot how much I love this show and how much happens in the first season!

Anonymous

Hi Natalie! I don't know if this has been pointed out to you, but you should check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNluc8P4Dd8&list=PLOCQRrDDXaseEs3u-Ftbvu5G2TSy4ZwFZ. It is the history and lore extras from the Bluray. This would provide a lot of backstory that would have likely been in the books that didn't make it to the show (I still haven't read the books, so I'm not too sure. While I haven't looked at any of these in a while, I would imagine certain things like "Winter is Coming" would have been better explained and whatnot. Anyway, I'm actually just watching the edited version on Youtube right now, and thought this would have helped a bit.

Martin Firth

Same boat! I have watched the show through twice already but I need to see what happens!

hockeywitch

Nat, I don't know if anyone has suggested this but most reactors take notes to keep track of names, locations, relationships, etc.

My_Cousin_Mose

Hey Natalie I remember watching GOT for the 1st time and I agree there are a ton of names that I too had trouble learning at first. All good im loving these videos.

Daniel Vezina

There's CBG19 channel or Preston Jacobs who's doing more in dept. Both on youtube.

33:28 Where have I heard that before?

“It’s been gruesome...” Oh my sweet summer child....

Please don’t apologize or worry about “not getting everything”! Quite honestly if I hadn’t read the book first I would have been just as lost as you if not more so. You’ve been far more perceptive and picked up on a lot more than many people do on their first viewing. I appreciate how much you empathize with Sansa despite how frustrating and naive she is at this point in the story. As you said, she’s a CHILD being manipulated and gaslighted by Cersei and co., she truly is afraid for Ned, and really believes doing what they tell her to will save him. “Everybody should be focusing on taking care of these zombies- instead they’re all fighting over a stupid chair!” I said THANK YOU out loud when you said this. That is exactly the point the author was trying to make. A lot of people seem to miss that and think the “game of thrones” is equally important or more important. But, newsflash, ice zombies don't care who’s on the Iron Throne!

Anonymous

Oh, and you’ve probably figured out by now, but the kid Bran talks to is Rickon, his younger brother. The show really doesn’t do a good job introducing him. He's only 6 (and only 3 in the book!) but still got one of the direwolf puppies! Who he named “Shaggydog"

Anonymous

Don't worry about what people say if you don't get all the names, etc... It has been a pleasure watching this series alongside your commentary. It's not often I get to enjoy these shows with people who have never seen them so it has been a delight!

Anonymous

You’ve caught WAY more details and names than I did my first time through this series, seriously I was SO lost, all I knew was I didn’t want Arya or Sam to die, and I wanted the white walkers to come and kill just about everyone else who wasn’t a Stark...you’re doing an awesome job and I’m really enjoying these!
