Awesome Nat. Sunday evening sorted. Don't worry about what happened with your recording. Everyday is a school day. We all learn from mistakes made. It's the only way any of us better ourselves, plus we're just happy to see Koda again :) The scene with Riggs and the gun is a powerful moment. This movie is definitely a potent mix of comedy and high drama. It was one of the first 18 cert movies I ever saw. Fun fact: Murtaugh's wife is played by Darlene Love who sang on all your favourite Phil Spector Christmas songs. Great reaction and video Nat. Thank you.

Could I make a stupid suggestion. Record your reactions simultaneously on a second device. That's your backup. Maybe, a laptop with a second external mic. If you don't need the recording you simply delete it. Do a small amount of work upfront or re-record everything. Regardless, we love you. You don't need to use your superpower (beautiful expressive eyes) and a dog on us. You had us at,"Alright guys...."

While I’m glad you enjoyed this one, for me, I can’t look past the fact that Mel Gibson has actively promoted anti-Semitism. I used to love this movie so much, but I can’t separate the actor from his work, not when his real-life behavior hits so close to home. I’m sure it’s too late to do anything in the polls at this point, but I hope you’ll consider watching Die Hard during this holiday season.

Justin S.

Very cool Nat. I'll be checking this out today. I hope you get to react to the rest of the series because they add more comedy and Joe Pesci's character. The second Lethal Weapon is my favorite of the series.

Justin S.

Yeah, Mel Gibson's behavior was definitely troubling and inappropriate but I think he regrets it and is trying to move forward. I enjoyed the Lethal Weapon series a lot growing up and some of the other films he did such as Maverick, Ransom, and The Patriot. I guess I can seperate the actor from the work but I totally understand if you can't if it hits close to home. Speaking of actors with troubling behavior, it is a bit awkward to watch movies with Kevin Spacey now, especially American Beauty. I thought it was a great film at the time but it definitely has taken a hit now. LA Confidential is still one of my favorites and The Negotiator is a classic action picture but many of the others, I don't watch much anymore.

BNJ

Lethal Weapon 2 is also very good if you want to watch that. The other two you can skip.

Thomas Malley

Holy shit what a surprise! I’m downloading it now since you’re already at capacity for simultaneous streams. You’re too popular!:) Side question: is she still doing the streams?

nataliegold

Haha glad you enjoy the videos Thomas! I’m not live streaming at the moment. Just focusing on edited video content

nataliegold

Haha I just don’t have that kind of capacity or duplicates of equipment right now. But it’s definitely something I’ll think about in the future. I was facepalming myself for this one big time 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ken

First time watching Lethal Weapon in 20ish years, and there are definitely a lot of things younger me thought were badass but now seem dumb or cringey, like that fight at the end. I know it's already on your list but the "Why wouldn't they just..." type comments you made (like why wouldn't Mr Joshua just flee) make me think you'll appreciate Heat. It's a movie that thinks about those sorts of things in great detail. Also "I'm sorry, why the hell is there so much egg nog in this room?" may be my favorite comment of yours in any video.

Calo Grsf

Your intro made my evening haha if it makes you feel better, I could have made that kind of mistake too 😅😂 I hope you're doing well!

Justin S.

The 3rd and the 4th are definitely weaker but I think Nat would still enjoy them, especially Rene Russo's character. Also, the fight scene in the 4th one is very entertaining, especially the first time you watch it.

Baron

Thanks for the great video. I noticed a couple of funny things, and things to note. First all your reactions and questions are great. Second did you notice that when they go in the pool to rescue the guy that Riggs somehow takes his boots off before going in the pool? I thought that was weird. Also do you think the props guy for the scene with the egg nog was over prepared, and they were like okay it didn't take 20 takes... Shane Black is a creative person your going to see again very soon with Iron Man 3 which is also a Christmas movie or maybe with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I can't remember everything he is involved in but it seems like you are all set to watch a bunch of his work. I also recommend that you watch the comedy movie they made based on all of the cop action movie cliche's, I know Hot Fuzz is on your list and it does a good job at poking fun of the action cop genre but so does National Lampoons Loaded Weapon movie. Thanks for sharing.

Andy Crawley

Really enjoyed your reaction to this Nat! And don’t worry about messing up with the recording, shit happens. It’s cool you even invite us along with this part of your life anyways. Regarding what someone said about Mel Gibson, it can definitely be tough to separate the art from the artist sometimes. Personally though, I don’t have a hard time watching films starring actors that are/have been problematic in real life, because they are playing characters, not themselves. That’s not to say that what Mel Gibson said and did should be ignored or excused, it definitely shouldn’t, but also remember that he was/is an alcoholic, alcoholism is an addictive disease, and addiction can make people say and do fucked up things. If we were to stop watching films/tv shows made by or starring anyone who had done anything remotely problematic, 3 quarters of Hollywood would disappear, and the only allowable things to watch would be anything starring Tom Hanks, as he’s the entire globes cinematic dad! I definitely think you’d enjoy Lethal Weapon 2 and 3, Joe Pesci’s character is a third wheel for Riggs and Murtaugh, and Rene Russo is great in the 3rd one, a female Riggs basically, but way more bad-ass. Happy Holidays!

Randee Carreno

This will give me something to watch tonight. 😊 I highly recommend watching the 2nd and 3rd "Lethal Weapon" at some point. Love those two movies as well. It was great seeing Koda at the very beginning of this video. Happy Holidays! 💛

Matthew Periolat

First of all, don’t apologize for a mistake. They happen, it’s fine. We’re always going to understand and forgive. Now, KODA apologies on your behalf will always be welcome and encouraged. Well, this was a movie. I know I grew up in the 80s and movies like this were the order of the day, but this just left me cold. Dunno why, maybe I’m just too cynical and take stuff like depression, mental health and suicide too seriously. That and I think stuff like Beverly Hills Cop did plots like this better. YMMV, of course. Don’t regret the experience because I can say I did it, notch my belt and move on. And I feel better suggesting movies like Road House and No Holds Barred now. Five days until the holiday, but want to say Merry Christmas and Happy (belated) Hanukkah. Thank you for the gift of sanity from a pandemic, helping me remember classics with fresh eyes and getting to experience stuff for the first time. I give back subscriptions, donations, best wishes and my deepest gratitude. Here’s to 2021.

Justin S.

You made some good points in that almost every actor has said or done something wrong or inappropriate. Some are worse than others, sure, but audiences should be able to recognize that no one is perfect and that they still be forgiven, especially if it is clear they have remorse and actively trying to improve themselves. Robert Downey Jr. was an actor that made many poor decisions and did a considerable amount of time in prison before changing his ways and landed the huge role of Tony Stark.

Jayson Phillips

4 years ago today I lost my wife and son, watching your reactions always puts a smile on my face and lightens my heart so thank you for helping me through this difficult day.

Garrick Smalley

Thanks for this reaction. No worries about the half way mix up. As a suggestion set a timer for 5 minutes. Yes the first time I saw this movie the second thing I said was: "That's not how she landed". Yep there were a lot of things that were very convenient for the story to work. That friend of Murtaugh was a bank owner it was his house (also he is a drug dealer). "What are the morals?" it was the late 80's I am not sure they were thinking about morals.

JediLounger

Watching it now, as per usual it's good stuff Natalie. Given how strongly you feel about Gibson and his character, you may want to consider watching the rest of the movies. They are those rare sequels that are not pointless and do mix the formula up some, while providing a consistent arc for Riggs and Murtaugh and their families. Lethal Weapon 3 would be the weak link of the bunch, but its still pretty good. I hope you and your family are having a good holiday, and please stay safe with all that is going on in Southern California right now.

John

Riggs decided he didn't want to kill himself anymore because of his friendship with Murtaugh. That was the first human connection we see him make in the movie. Someone trusted him and he was able to trust someone else.

Matthew Clark

I feel like all of these comments are just older fellas correcting misperceptions in the movie. Well, my turn I guess. The first guy shot in the Christmas tree lot was hit with a shotgun, that’s why he had several simultaneous wounds. The daughter wasn’t dating Mr. Joshua, her boyfriend was killed during her abduction (big dimples guy).

It Hurt A Lot

So you think you can hide behind the cuteness of Koda and make everything ok. Like we're gonna get mesmerized by his cute, fluffy face and little perky ears and the way his little paws flop over and.........wait what were you saying?

Endling_king

thank you so much for making me realize the error of my ways. i will go ahead and delete my post so that my opinions on the movie and providing possible answers to things she mentioned in the reaction doesn't bother anyone else.

David Crabtree

Love this film and franchise! Love Mel Gibson period! For better or worse, Lethal Weapon became the template for the buddy cop genre for the next decade and a half. Lethal Weapon 3 is actually my favorite of the franchise

Anakin Starkiller

Actually all of the Lethal Weapons have big openings that was kind of their thing. This one definitely has the most shocking opening. After this one they did the big Hollywood style openings for the next 3 films.

Anakin Starkiller

I guess if you should watch one sequel I'd say Lethal Weapon 2

Robert Avila

As usual, Loved your reaction. Not what I was expecting for a holiday movie, but love it. Perfectly okay with your little goofs as long as we see your puppy 🐶😍🤗💖 Thank you for making this year so much more bearable and fun. Happy Chrismahaunnukahquanzica! Looking forward to the next one and a much better new year. Love ya!

LudicDave

80's movies are the best movies. But in this particular series, Lethal Weapon 4 is great too. I've watched that more times than the rest of the series combined.

Thundarr100

Another great reaction video, despite your technical difficulties that made you have to record your reactions twice. I think you goofed a bit in following the story. Did you think Danny Glover's daughter was dating Joshua? They killed her boyfriend with the big dimples when they abducted her. Also, Joshua wasn't the only mercenary in the general's employ, he was just the mercenary company's leader, which is how "he" managed to be able to shoot Mel Gibson and kidnap Danny Glover's daughter at the same time with them bein in different parts of the city. Oh, and the part in the beginning where the drug dealer in the Christmas Tree lot got shot once but had multiple bullet holes. He was shot with a shotgun. That's how shotguns work. Instead of a single bullet they shoot a scattering of small metal balls called "shot". You can get tiny ones about the size of BBs called "birdshot" which are used for hunting fowl (ducks, geese, quail, etc). Then there are larger balls about the size of ball bearings or marbles called "buckshot", which are used for larger game such as deer and elk. So the drug dealer was shot with buckshot. Shotguns are designed this way to make it easier to hit your target, but you sacrifice range for a guaranteed hit. Also, pin point accuracy like what you would get with a revolver or a hunting rifle like a 30-06 or a 30-30 is impossible. I hope that clarified some stuff for you. Again, great video and I'm looking forward to your next reaction.

PickettsChargingPort

"You can get tiny ones about the size of BBs called "birdshot" which are used for hunting fowl (ducks, geese, quail, etc)" Or even smaller, like #8 or #9 shot used in skeet and trap. Those are tiny.

Justin S.

Yeah, some things about the 80s I still really enjoy such as the music, the performances, and the sound is done well, especially the gunfire. I wish action movies today paid more attention to story and performances. Now, they definitely could have come up with a better scenario for the final fight in this film, instead of basically forcing it unrealistically.

michael denny

also we should remember the LAPD had a bit of a rep before 1991 so while it is a bit absurd the end fight is not that out of the wheel house.

Garren Haskell

Hahaha he really does run funny. I'm never going to be able to unsee it now. Time to watch all the Mel Gibson movies and make a supercut of all his running scenes lol.

Quarty

Seriously though, don't beat yourself up about it so much... It happens!! PS... Keep it running and then edit out your brake would help, or heck, let's all do a communal bathroom break at the same time? xD

Justin S.

She flipped over during the fall but there was a mistake in the location of the body. Sometimes I think the director or editors don't bother fixing those mistakes because it happens often in many movies. Almost all the violence and killing was them trying to survive which makes it justified. Just the final fight was out of place. Also, I think that there were some good messages that were conveyed by the end of the movie in that it is never too late to find new reasons to live and form new friendships later in life.

Thomas Yanez

The answer to one of your questions answers another. You expressed surprise/disbelief that they became friends so fast... in war, men will bond for life in the space of a single firefight. Having to put your complete trust in the men around you to keep you alive while you are doing the same for them can jumpstart some relationships pretty easily. You can't tell me that the experience they went through together in a very short period of time was any less brutal than being on the battlefield together. And, I believe that it is that relationship he formed with Roger that brought him back from the edge, along with the positive influence that came from seeing Roger's healthy, happy family - a family that also immediately accepted him into their fold.

Tiger Chu

Hope you get to watch Hot Fuzz soon

Good stuff Nat

Cripkie

when you watch a action flick with a women you realise all the cheese .It seemed much more impressive when i was a kid.

Kevin Mowery

You're going to get to extend the season for a bit. Lethal Weapon was written by Shane Black, who also wrote and directed Iron Man 3. A lot of his movies take place at Christmas.

Anonymous

I think the other comments explained most of your questions, I also think that since we didn't get to see your first reaction due to the camera issues you should watch the sequel. I actually think you may enjoy the sequel more as it has a much more comedic tone, while still being a Lethal weapon movie(no themes as heavy as suicide).

RebRox65

Great reaction as always Natalie, my own personal favourite in this franchise was the second movie 🎥 the relationship has more humorous consequences plus it has joe Pesci who is just hilarious.

Troy B.

I was too young for Lethal Weapon and most of the sequels when they came out, and I'd never taken the time to go back and watch them, though I did see the parody "Loaded Weapon 1" (Which makes a lot more sense now). So this was my first viewing of the original. A lot more Christmas-themed than I was expecting! Maybe even moreso than Die Hard. Not sure what they were thinking with the nudity during the opening suicide scene. Realism, I guess, hopefully not meant to be titillating. Anyway, thanks for sharing with us as always!

I saw Lethal Weapon in the theaters and loved it. Watched it on DVD a time or two after that and enjoyed it. From this perspective, though, it just doesn't hold up well at all. This film is so 80s and has little or nothing that helps it transcend that time period, unlike "When Harry Met Sally" or "Blade Runner" or "Die Hard." It's all scenery-chewing all the time.

Todd Madison

In a rare twist, the second holds up a lot better.

Ashley Faith

I get your frustration with some things. Watching it for the 1st time at this age is tricky. This was my favorite movie for years. I think Riggs finally saw that he could do more good alive than dead. He never had a partner to show him that before. Hope you watch the sequels too!

Jack Burton

it always cracks me up when people watch sci-fi and fantasy and suspend reality but when they watch an action flick it's nothing but criticism about how unrealistic it is. it's an 80's action film. relax a little bit. Die Hard is filled with wtf's but nobody cares since it's a great movie.
